Good camera for making videos

I have all the goodies for editing and making video but I was wondering what camera the pros are using.

I would like to get those nice crisp clear images and sound and am researching different models now.

I thought about the digital beta cams but those are HUGE $$$$.

Any thoughts or ideas?

I just bought a fantastic Logitech HD Webcam.

    Google

It was just under £50 from PC World. It's amazing quality.

Or like above, Flip Cams are awesome and sound like just what you need.

It should be a hand held or tripod mountable.

I'll be filming myself and my wife for a new site.

Thank you I'll take a look at the Flip series.

I actually recommend a Kodak Playtouch, or if you are wanting to save some money, then the Kodak Zi8 will work too. 720p at 60FPS is good enough for whatever I'm doing. I do recommend getting a good SD Card and a good external mic. A tripod or any other way of holding your camera in place wouldn't hurt either.

A friend who makes professional videos told me that the Kodak Zi8 is all I needed for videos suitable for you tube. I use it for "to camera" videos and the quality is very good and best of all it is very, very easy to use. Also its only the size of a mobile phone so you can take it with you anywhere. Great little camera and ideal for the job, Marc

I agree canon. Fact is, we use a Canon PowerShot SX20 IS that takes 4 AA batteries instead of the lithium power pac. It take clear crisp HD movies. Also has excellent no shake close up. This camera has a mode for super macro. Also it is a 20X super zoom.

I usually go for cannon as well. I spent $1200 on an EOS package and was very disappointed to find that it didn't do movies. The Nikon seemed to be the better choice at the time. I never asked before I bought .. so thus I am asking now

Too bad I can't get a rental and test out the various models :/

There are some great £200 HD camcorders on Amazon that with a simple tripod and good lighting would look very pro.

I don't think (unless you can afford to) you have to pay over the odds. It's 2012 and HD camcorders look great for a small cost.

The Kodak Zi8 is what many YouTubers are recommending for HD videos. But it's very sensitive to your movement; you can use a tripod so it won't shake as much.

I started with Kodak Zi8. it has a full HD option and a port for external microphone. I think that is enough if you want to shoot good quality videos on a budget.

Another vote for the Kodak Zi8

It really depends what you want to shoot. A Canon 7d will give you high quality videos, just like the pros, with plenty of options.

But for cheap options, any camera that shoots at least 720p is good enough. Even better if it has an external mic input like the Kodak Zi8/playtouch or even iphone

Whatever you get, just make sure it films in wide-screen... then make sure you buy a name brand too... and then it seems to me that you'll likely be happy with whatever you purchase.

Has anyone used the ZI10 from Kodak? I would mainly need for demonstration videos indoors.

Its a decent enough camera. The only thing i dont like is that you can easily misclick when using the touchscreen and there is a bit of lag on the screen when recording

we are using cannon equipment d7 i think the model is. but you can make great looking videos with flip or with zi8. you will just need a good lightning gear. and that's basically more cost effective then what we did.

    hope it helps.

  • You'd be surprised how well an iPhone 4 works. You just need a tripod stand and a clip mic.

I was going to suggest the same thing. I just did a free video tip about using video to grow your business. One of the advantages today is using an iphone for simple content videos. Plus, it makes it so easy to upload to the net, and now you can even edit the files.

Other than that, there is an abundance of quality cams out there for a few hundred bucks.

By way of some minor miracle I got a camera (or rather always had it).

It is an older model Panasonic 3CCD unit and uses those older cassettes. There is a software program out there (Motion DV) that will convert it to the PC for me .. downloading it now. Now all I have to do is find a USB cable for it and will be testing it out

I was really hoping that it would record movies to SD but it will only do still shots.

I've been using the Kodak Zi8 for a couple of years BUT you will not be able to see yourself as you're shooting.

This is the only downside to the Zi8, especially if you're using a whiteboard.

Otherwise it's a great little camera and a good investment for the money.

I use a Flip Ultra HD - amazingly sharp pictures, highly portable, simple to operate, easy to upload and 2 hours play time. For the money, it's difficult to beat.
