Hi Guys,

Anyone had any luck with writing erotica for kindle?

I'm told I'm very good at it but just wondered if anyone else and dipped their toes in that water at all and what their experiences of it are?

Thank you!

I can't speak for the kindle/erotica match per se, but I do know if people like to read it then it can do well for kindle. I also advise that you don't limit yourself to the kindle platform alone. There are several ebook readers on the market , so if the kindle market doesn't bite you may find your market somewhere else.

One thing you would have to watch out for is the fact that works can be removed from the Kindle store for being objectionable or offensive. These terms are completely subjective, and are probably being enforced by offshore employees based in countries with values much different from our own.

As with anything, it's worth a shot. But I'll also point out that if your idea of erotica actually is something objectionable or offensive, by any standard, then your time may be better spent elsewhere (I had to say it, based on what some people try to put on the Kindle as "erotica.")

Thanks Jon. I totally understand where you coming from with that. Nothing I write is, I believe, objectionable just you're run of the mill dirty stories . I've gone ahead and published my first one today and, hopefully, will have another up by the end of the day. The idea is to get two up a day for the rest of the month and then see how they do. I quite enjoy writing them  so for me it's fun and not really like work at all!

I think your find that this is a rather crowded and competitive niche on kindle. My approach would be to write 2 collections and give one away free via free ebooks sites twitter etc and hope it goes viral.

In the free book you would have a link to the second collection on Amazon, if your work is good many will buy and you can up the price a little to over the 70%|commission rate threshold. You won't have to compete on price because people will have already read your work.

The only thing is will erotica get passed on or are people unwilling to a admit to reading it and b suggest their friends read it.
