Free ebook help needed...

I finally got smart and finished my ebook / report! So now I have a 7,000 word pdf document and I am not really sure what to do next. I will be sending it as a free gift to my subscribers, do I just add it as an attatchment? Also, I plan on hiring someone to design a ebook cover, is this necessary for a "free gift"? If I do have a cover, how do I link it to the pdf file? I obviously don't have a clue, any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

Also, is 7,000 words long enough to call an ebook or should it be a "report"???? Thanks.

7,000 words is long enough to call it an ebook but that doesn't mean you should! ebook has less perceived value, a guide or report sounds better.

Also having an ecover isn't necessary but also increases the perceived value, which should increase your opt-in rate. You can have them designed on Fiverr or here in the 'Warriors for Hire' section. There's also free templates available online if you can work with Photoshop. As far as 'linking to your PDF', just insert the image on the first page in your 'ebook'. Then above your opt-in form or on your squeeze page you can also display that image.

And for delivery what you'll want to do is create a 'thank you' page where your subscribers can download the ebook. So they visit your site, opt-in to your list, receive the welcome email with the link to your 'thank you' page where they can download.

    Hope that helps!

    Dan gave a perfect response.

Also, if you want to give this book to subscribers you already have you can send out a broadcast message telling them about it and giving them a link to the download page. Attachments sometimes can cause messages to be thought of as spam easier.

Great tips from Dan. If you have $5 to invest try Fiverr and don't forget to check out the top-rated sellers first. You can get a cover done within 1-2 days.

Put the download link in the email they get after they CONFIRM that they want to opt in to your list.

You may submit the teaser of the ebook to free ebook directories and file sharing sites like scribd.com to get traffic to your squeeze page...

Thanks everyone for the thougtful responses. I do plan on having an ebook cover created on fiverr, that we be placed somewhere in my sidebar near my opt-in form.

I am going to sound very ignorant right now, but I still don't know how to link to the document??? Since it is a document, not a page on the internet, how do I send people to it??????? I understand the idea of sending them to my thank you page, and then having a place where they can download the book, but how do I make it where they can download it? I hope someone is understanding what I am trying to ask . Thanks in advance for the help!

You upload the .pdf file to your webserver and then provide a HTML link...

So if your file is NewReport.pdf and you upload it to a 'docs' directory on your hosting account (probably under public_html diectory - which is the 'root') you'd provide a link in your email or on your download page to:

    hxxp://domain.com/docs/NewReport.pdf

... then when it's clicked the browser will offer them the choice of displaying or saving it. (replace the hxxp with http.)

I am glad you understood what I was trying to ask . Ok, I am going to sound pretty silly, but how do I "upload to my webserver" ? Thanks again for the help.

How do you upload your website currently? Do you use FTP?

Or is it a simple WordPress install via installatron/fantastico?

Essentially, if it's typical cPanel hosting, then you can go into your 'cPanel' account and choose the file manager option and upload a file there.

You need to put the file in the root web directory - which is usually 'public_html'.

There are plenty of tutuorials on using cPanel - just Google for them.

If you get stuck, check if your host provides instructions on FTP/uploading site data.

All your settings should be in your original registration email.

I just use wordpress, so I have never had to do anything like this before. Sorry for the beginner questions. I will google some tutorials . I tried to google it before you responded but it wasn't finding exactly what I was needing. Thanks again!

Just in case anyone else ever comes across this thread looking for the same information.... I just wanted to share that all I had to do was "add media" when using wordpress to upload the pdf file. I did not have to go through FTP and all of that .
