Is it REALLY possible for everyone to make money online?

Ok, so I am interested in people's thoughts on this...

After successfully running a business for over 5 years, as well as attempting to help others do the same...I think (meaning not quite sure yet)I'm coming to this, albeit harsh, conclusion:

Not everyone that tries is able to make it work. (I'm meaning people who want to and have the drive)

And I'm not talking about just "lack of action" or "lack of knowledge". I'm talking about not possessing the traits necessary to be able to make it work and being unable to gain these traits through work/study.

This could mean that, literally, some people do not possess the intelligence or the mental capacity (whether it be maturity, wisdom, guts, the ability to act without being led, etc.) to become successful online.

Thoughts? Opinions?

I'm just interested in hearing what everyone thinks.

Rob

(Another way to say it - are there people who are completely doomed to fail no matter what they do or how much outside help they receive?)

I'm not sure what you are saying.

Are you saying lazy people who feel entitled are unable to find success?

If that's the case, I partially agree with you. However, attitudes (entitlement mentality) and personality flaws (laziness) can be overcome. I'm somewhat testament to the second. (I'm SUPER lazy - and yet I run a profitable, full time business)

I don't think it is possible for everybody to make money period. When I say money I mean more then one can earn in a basic job doing something brain dead. Or in other words being rich whatever that means to an given individual.

The internet is not a magical realm where the normal principles of business stop applying. There are simply some differences like lower costs and the potentially to reach a greater amount of people in your target market. This does allow some people the opportunity to make a better living and create a more desirable lifestyle then was available before the evolution of the internet. The internet has also allowed new styles of big business to develop while other who have not embraced the future are struggling. Yes I'm looking at you Hollywood.

Why isn't it possible for everybody to make it online? For the same reasons people can't make money off line. There are horses for courses and not everyone is designed to be independently wealthy, IMO.

Nope, this hasn't anything to do with laziness.

I agree with the OP, it needs a certain mind-set BEYOND the will, determination and skills/knowledge.

Everyone "wants" to make money, everyone is getting lured and everyone dreams of using their "Computer comfortably from home to make money".

But, first, i think it needs an ability to be able to SELL something plus to communicate in a certain way - and not anyone has this ability...there is also psychology at play and more factors. Your simple desire to make money won't be enough.

I think some people just aren’t cut out for internet marketing. My personal experiences have been bumpy to start with and very little to show for it.

I had a mentor that developed niche websites for adsense and flips some of them for huge profits - He literally showed me everything he did from start to finish. But I just couldn't for the life of me get it to work no matter what I tried; I would follow his guidance to the exact letter and still nothing.
I also followed eBooks and blue prints of other ways to go about it and nothing.

I have recently found success in affiliate marketing with Amazon products of all things; I didn't follow any books or guides online I did my own little thing and getting some small revenue coming in... Who knows how or why, maybe it’s just a topic individuals can click with and have the correct mental methodology behind it to succeed?

This, I believe, is probably the reason.

A lot of us naturally want to gravitate to one business model or another. Part of it is appeal, part of it seems to feel more natural.

For you, building amazon stores must feel more natural. Or it could be dumb luck. lol

Regardless, I begin to think there are those who will fail at every turn and it is actually best for them to quit. Interesting considered I used to think differently.

But after doing this long enough, you start to get a feeling about people that you just can't shake.

Perhaps my change of thought is optimism being tempered with reality. Who knows?

I totally agree with you, not everyone is cut out to run their own business.

There's a lot of mindset stuff to it and you need a unique skill set (that really doesn't even have much to do with smarts), lets face it, society pretty much has you brainwashed to be an employee so even some of the most intelligent and motivated people don't have what it takes.

Mental is 90% of the business. Having the right mindset. Being able to mentally focus on seeing something through to completion without getting distracted. I suppose there are people out there who are not mentally capability of having the mindset to succeed but I believe that almost anyone can train their mind to carry the correct mindset and thus see themselves become successful.

Very meta but I do believe it.

I think it is possible for anyone to make money online. If someone goes to microworkers.com, they will be able to do some micro jobs and make money. I would consider this guaranteed money for anyone that decided to do it.

However, I don't think it is possible for everyone to make a lot of money online. The reason why is because it requires a different mindset. Most people have the job mindset which is forced upon them through school. The job mindset doesn't lead to making a lot of money online.

School never talks about internet marketing or about working for yourself. Most people take the job mindset that they got from school and they come online trying to make money. They start looking for hourly based jobs on the internet because they don't have the right mindset.

It is hard to transform someone that has the "get paid for doing hourly work" mindset into a person that "does work for nothing, fails, and eventually succeeds to make money". The "get paid for doing hourly work" people don't have the patience to succeed on the internet unless they change their mindset.

I agree that not everybody is well-suited to running and establishing a business, regardless if it's offline or online. Possessing a powerful business skill-set may not be viable for everyone - you could argue that it comes down to:

    - A lack of knowledge;
    - Disinterest in the subject at hand;
    - Someone who is reluctant to learn;
    - Self-sabotaging traits that one may possess.

Of course, these possible problems may only be an infinitesimal part of the issue at hand.

... and for the aforementioned reasons - not all people are cut out to be (insert a random profession here).

Making Money Online is not easy. I am tired of hearing people saying "Be millionaire from one day to another", that myth is an awful way to scam people that might be honest trying to make a steady income for his/her life.

Truth is, Making Money Online IS possible, but requires you to start learning several things first. It is a Business, as any other, and it requires time, effort, investment. But answering your question, it is really possible, and when you begin to see the results of your effort, it is really rewarding.

It all depends on the time you are willing to spend on this business, the amount of money you will gain here.
I am really grateful for discovering this, I am just about to quit my job and dedicate full-time to my personal business, I am waiting to earn the same I earn actually as a Senior .Net Web Developer, and when that happens, bye bye job, hello Internet Marketing haha.

I would give the human species more credit than that. I actually think that everyone who attempts to start their online business can make it work. But they don't work because of a number of factors... not related to mentall capacity.

Now if you had said that you don't think that some people can't understand the science of a blackhole, quantum physics, or what happened 1 second before the big bang.... i would agree with you.

I think it's a combination of everything and boils down to the individual. Can anyone make money online? I believe they can, but I also want to say that it will be more based on the person's mindset and situation and their WILL to overcome it and succeed in it.

Some people are in situations that don't allow them the free time to do the things that they have the talents to do, such as single parents for example. They could probably succeed, but don't have the time or money to start it so therefore fail if they started it. Others don't have the mindset to focus well at all and find themselves straying away and not doing anything with all the free time in the world. And others just frustrate way too easily, give up the first week because they didn't make $15k like they thought they would, and just stay at the 9-5 job. However, given better circumstances and focus, I believe these scenarios could make money too.

Then there are some people can take a product and market it down to a science and make 100k in a month, even if they don't have some of the skills or mindset as other marketers. The thing with them is, they were determined, and pushed through regardless of how long it took or how much they had to study or learn to finally find that area to make money in.

I think it boils down to having a talent or talents in a field, having interest in that area, having the time to do it, and even more so, NOT GIVING UP and pushing it all the way through. If one idea doesn't work out, try another one, and keep trying until you find the one area that works and stick to it, upscale it, and keep it going strong!

I think that anyone can succeed, but they have to change their situations, gain time, focus harder, and not give up and drive that concept or project until the wheels fall off. Sometimes obstacles (more often than we all want them to) block your path, but you can either sit there on the floor when the first one knocks you down and refuse to continue, or get back up, brush yourself off, and push through the next hurdles until you see that white line, and push yourself to cross it, whether it takes you 2 days or 2 years.

I guess what I'm saying is, I believe anyone can make money, but I believe most feel they can't or don't see the pot of gold the first week and try their luck at a lottery ticket instead. Determination and motivation! You CAN Succeed and Exceed your goals if you keep at it!

I agree with many of the posters here - some people aren't cut out for business in general, both online and offline.

With that said, if you're wondering if absolutely anybody can make at least some money online then I think with the proper education it's possible, but again, some people aren't cut out for business.

Some people aren't cut out for a lot of things, but if you want anything badly enough you can achieve it - I believe.

I think that in it's self is the single biggest factor to doing anything, even more so then having the right nature, education or up bring to succeed at what ever it is you want.

People are wired in different ways.

Some people are made to lead themselves and in turn, others, whilst some people are made to be led. The latter perhaps work better as part of a team?

I'm effective at leading myself. Although I don't lead others, I'd like to think I at least inspire people but I definately do not function well in a team - as in literal sizable groups rather than partnerships.

An associate of mine has waited for nearly a decade to be led (to be employed by someone) rather than employing himself, to put a plan into action and make something happen. The minerals just aren't there. No doubt they will fit in when the opportunity arises.

You want to make money? You can do it for free by writing articles, so long as you can speak English. I'm making the most money on Factoidz at the moment, writing articles. If you want to join, use my affiliate code: 3R26314 I can't post the referral link here. I'm making up to twenty dollars a day there, and building a growing residual income. I also make money on Fiverr from doing simple quick tasks like tweeting, making a You Tube video, or making a back link from a blog post on my site. I make the most money from my site when it's going well, but I haven't got a big order for a while. Overall, it's taken me about three years to figure out how to make about thirty dollars a day, but it keeps getting better. I'm not complaining personally, but I can see why most people give up.

With that said I think just about everyone could handle making some extra spending money for the month, say $20/day.

I think anyone can do it. Most people just don't stick around for long enough to reach that success. For someone it might take 2 month to start making money, for another person it might take 2 years. But everyone expects to see results in a very short period of time because all they hear is make "1000 per day on autopilot".

And for those that are selling the dream of "1000 per day on autopilot", in essence, they are the ones making the tons of money, as there are so many desperate people jumping into IM thinking there's this Get Rich Quick setup that can happen in as little as 2 days. Maybe I should write an ebook and call it "Make $12,458.36 in the next Hour using This Trick" and then share that the trick is making an ebook with the same title and selling dreams!

You're right Russerg, most don't stick around long enough... because when they realize they canNOT make $15grand in 3 hours TODAY, they go looking elsewhere for the next "how can I make money yesterday" fix. It takes hard work, patience, testing, and dedication, and that's with ANY business, not just IM.

I agree with Rob, in principle.

There's a reason a majority of the workers of the world are employees with people telling them what to do. It's because they need that structure, they need that person telling them what to do, otherwise they don't really have a clue how to make money in almost any capacity.

Some people just don't have the right mindset that they are in charge and they need to decide what to do and be their own boss.

The fact is most of us are not cut out to be our own boss.

Once somebody realizes they have this wrong mindset however, there are ways of changing it but it's going to take a very active and serious approach to figure out how to get out of that mental habit which has been drummed into them and they may not even realize it.

I agree 100%, Rob. I think most anyone of at least adequate IQ can do this stuff. But that's not the issue. Being able to do something and doing it are different animals. For whatever reason, there are many people that want it, learn it, can envision it, but simply will not ever get down to the work required to do it.

I think a lot of people are blinded by the "$x,xxx/day on autopilot" promises and don't realize how big the learning curve is, or how much hard work and dedication it takes - either way in the end they give up or don't work as hard as they need to in order to be successful.

Speaking from my own experience, its that intial switch, or transition, or what you call the light bulb moment trigger. You either get it or you dont get it.

The mindset is ever so important, because it helps make you think a certain way, and to many people come at Internet marketing as either a hobbie, or part time thing. But once you realise this is an actual business then it's that shift of ohhhhh ok... anyone starting out I say read up about running a business, understand the mindset of a successful business person and apply that to yourself.

That's my own personal experience, like any business risks are there aswell, but online there's alot of self education aswell as self motivation. Specially starting out on your own. Never give up and keep percivering. If bill gates gave up, microsoft would never been born, same goes for richard branson virgin, and other successful companies.

I think everyone does have the ability to make money online, but it is just like everything else in life. You have to find what you have a passion for and what you are good at. I have tried some of the ideas that have been shared on here, but they didn't do well due to lack of passion. So I have stuck with my passion for real estate and have done phenomenal.

Very interesting thread! Personally I have and still run an offline business - and in my 'spare' time have tried dipping into the internet marketing industry - as everyone say above - This is NOT an easy plug and play industry - but I still feel that most people can be successful online, but it has everything to do with personality (attitude etc) and the ability to put into action what you have been taught. I have tried for several years now and it is only recently I have found someone who can guide me by the hand with 'simple' things like how to make a pdf into a url - being a non techie I got stuck with these kind of things in most of the programs I bought - yes I did learn something new with each program, but I could never finish any of them because I got stuck one way or another due to things like the software not working properly but mostly by my own stupid non techie ability....however I never did give up! So now the light is getting here too :-)

I think most lack the discipline to be consistent and hold themselves accountable. These are very important when it comes to internet marketing or anything for that matter, losing weight, saving money, you name it.
Lastly many people are unable to stay focused on one thing. They want to reap rewards before they ever do any real work.
    Just my take.

I think it's perfectly possible for anyone to make money online, providing they're prepared to put in the time and energy to be successful. Most people who fail, simply don't put in the work. Some people will be more successful than others, because they have more knowledge and skill.

I fall on the side of the argument that says, "Nope -- some people just can't do it."

Nothing wrong with that. Just as some people aren't cut out to run their own businesses, there are others in the world who are not cut out to be:

    Parents

    Teachers

    Lawyers

    Morticians

    Beauticians

    Accountants

    Garbage collectors

    Investment bankers

    Farmers

    Cold-calling sales reps

    Scientists

    Married

    Single

    Plumbers

    Factory workers

    CEOs

    City dwellers

    Red necks

    Dog owners

    Deer hunters

    ... and so on.

Again, nothing wrong with any of that. And I'd hope no one would look down on anyone else for their choices, inclinations, lack of ability, lack of success, lack of interest etc... (though it happens all the time on this forum).

I don't know, I think pretty much everyone could be a mortician. :p

I think so. If you read a lot about going about what you want to do, have a good mindset about it and your determined, then you can do it no problem. I.M can seem daunting to I.M newbies, but if you know your way around it, anyone can make money online with some time and effort.

I can see how it would be hard these days just starting out; 3 huge factors come to mind. 1.red herrings 2. Following advice from people who are not experienced (they sure love to post) 3. People who know the core details for success keep the secret recipe under lock and key.

You will have to fight to develop your own recipe for success.

I personally don't think it is possible for everyone to make money online. Just a fact that not everyone is going to be able to do something. Some people are wired to be leaders and some are wired to be followers.

Seriously, I think those kind of people are better finding their own part, they need to discover what they are good or have passion for, not everyone will make money online but anyone can make money.

I definitely don't think it is an absolute thing for the vast majority of the population. I think a huge percentage of people do have the ability to learn what is needed to be successful at making money online.

That being said, I also think that there is a natural or environmental component that comes into play. Take a look at professional sports. most NBA players are 6+ feet tall and have a certain natural athletic ability. but there have been several players who are 5'8" who had fairly successful NBA careers. Most of those guys practiced hard and were great outside shooters.

So while being 5'8 doesn't mean you can't play in the NBA, it certainly means you are at a natural disadvantage.

In business, my dad was an entrepreneur, so I grew up with that sort of mindset. It was fairly natural for me to start a business. Overall, I would think that what we call natural ability at 40 years old, was probably not natural ability, but learned ability via exposure and training.

No. There's only so much money to go around.

No rich people without poor people and no poor people without rich people.

Well you're right if things like laziness and lack of intelligence count. Of course someone who is just totally DUMB can't do anything that needs thinking. Or someone who is too lazy to do anything.
