SERIOUS! Clickbank Income Stopped Completely!!

OK, this is now a very serious issue for me.

Basically what is happening for the last week or so is this: Instead of "CB SALE"s in my email every morning - all I see is emails of people telling me that they want to purchase my product, but they see an ERROR message when they try to purchase. I have contacted CB but they can take days to respond. Also, this product has been happily selling without issue for over 3 years.

Has anyone experienced something similar?
What was the reason and how did you fix it?

Any help is stupidly appreciated.
Maybe I can help you somehow?

This could be interesting, if you could get an exact error message. It would possibly tell if the problem is on clickbank's end, or somewhere else.

Yes, I tend to be leaning towards "Not CBs Fault". Wish they'd answer sooner

I also have trouble believing this is my websites fault - seeing it hasn't changed at all in years? Could I have been hacked? I think security is stopping people from buying, the question is: Why?

You will definitely want to ask Clickbank about that. My CB order link is working just fine.

Yes, awaiting a CB response is too painful.

Although a good idea, a new CB payment link isn't helping. I already have two in operation on this product due to a pricing split-test. I just stopped that - as I am trying to isolate this problem I have. That wasn't it.

Yes thanks for that. My other CB products also have no problem. It only happened to my best selling product - Murphy made sure of that.

The weird thing is about 10%-20% of sales are still going through? That is what confuses me the most. The frustrating part is that anyone I ask to test-buy this product is part of that 10-20% and has no problem at all!!

Funny you've had this problem...I have a CB account I haven't really touched in a year...but still would bring in a sale every few days. Now I have gone 4 weeks without a sale...I just assume the one ranking I was holding onto maybe died?

Is it too much to ask the area (don't have to be too specific) / niche this product is in just to compare notes (you can PM it to me if thats better).

I am not too worried as it was just spending cash for me but would be nice to know.

        Thanks,

That's a productive thought and something I'll look into. I even recall getting an email regarding something very similar recently - thank you.

Yea I noticed my competitions sales have dropped also - could possibly be a common problem lately? Niche related or not. Although if you are receiving emails from wannabe customers having trouble purchasing - you'll know 100%, otherwise it really could be anything? I'll PM ya though.

      Of course!
      Yes!
      Not a Google Slap!!

How does it even sound anything like that? Traffic is steady and the problem is confirmed by the multiple emails of customers wishing to purchase. I don't think Google has anything to do with this. But thanks for playing!

No where up there did you say that your traffic is steady.

But if you're really getting a lot of emails from people being denied a purchase, then it shouldn't be too hard to get the exact error message - and where in the process they're receiving it. That would narrow it down quite a bit.

The only other thing I can think of to try is maybe a canonical issue where some are using www and some are not. I know a few years back, my server did some updates that messed it up on my site, and for a while my site would not work without the www. in front of the url.

Of course now that I think about it, customers probably wouldn't be able to get your email address if they didn't have access to your page.

Do you have many affiliates selling your product? I know sometimes I'll have a random affiliate send me a buttload of garbage traffic that will bog down all of my processes.

call clickbank?? ive called couple of times about a refund issue, looks like the answer calls properly.. did you call them? if you tried calling as a vendor, try to call again as a user who is desperate to buy a 'dog training' product

    either way they should answer?

I never even thought of that.

Also, didn't think there was a phone number for Clickbank? Can peeps actually call CB from Australia? I would think they'd make that pretty difficult to do. They just focus and rely on "support tickets" instead - don't they?

So far I'm thinking the problem is either related to some change in Hosting (like temlawn suggested) - an Internet Security issue - or a stuff up by CB altogether. But still nothing definite and it still sucks.

So curious to get the link haha anyway.. for the OP:

          1) There was a huge issue with Internet explorer few days ago, someone exploited it and it turned out that they can hack into your PC so I believe Microsoft is applying patches and that might block some sites so try to access your link using Chrome ( not sure if someone else already suggested it)

          2) If everything fails, try to reset your site from backup, try to go as far as possible like a month or so if anything happened on u r site then you will get it back, usually the hosting company has a backup somewhere and they will do it for free..

Hopefully you will get it sorted out

Right after making that last post, I started receiving a barrage of traffic from non-english speaking countries. My cpanel showed the referring url to be adf.ly - They are nothing but CRAP traffic. Especially if you're selling clickbank products. I was literally getting several hits per second from that site, so I added a rule to my htaccess file to block anyone coming from them.

Also - call or email clickbank. I happen to know that they are beta-testing a new payment system. I don't think that they would test non beta accounts, but you should definitely let them know your situation. Sometimes problems "mysteriously" disappear after letting clickbank know about them.

I am interested in what CB has to say (hopefully responding v soon) because the problem is pretty obvious using CB stats. What is this new payment system you speak of? What is the point of it and why are they trying a new system? Could this be related in any way to my problem do you think?

I've recently dealt with the same kind of issue and posted about it here:
    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ank-sales.html

I've done a lot of trial and error testing and can't come up with anything. Everything is pretty much the same except for my Order Form conversion rate. My CB analytics show the order page being submitted at the same rate, just no sales coming in. Weird...

I gave Tristan a hand with this yesterday.

I *believe* the issue may be related to a recent update of MacAfee's Antivirus software, which is causing a certain page to fall over, although Im yet to hear back, so cant be sure.

I'd also check the logs on your web server. When somebody clicks on the order link, ensure that you are getting a "200" HTTP status code for the click-throughs.

Ugh. Anti-virus software. I'm a certified computer security pro and I dread having to use the stuff. Far too often, block lists are based on the uninformed opinions of uninformed web surfers (web of trust, anybody? UGH!). Hope that's not the case...

If it is (and if it turns out to be McAfee), submit the URL for the site at McAfee SiteAdvisor Software -- it's owned by them, and if you submit a URL, they'll check the site for security issues. After their own system gives you a clean bill of health, hopefully so will their A/V software... (no guarantees, but it only takes a minute and can't hurt -- unless you have malware on your site, which does inadvertently happen sometimes).

Tom, I could be wrong, as Im yet to hear back from Tristan regarding this, but from the information provided, and the error message received by his customers, it did lead me to believe that AV software could be the cause.

Out of interest, I ran his sites URL through this Trend online scanner below, and it did flag one thing, which was a little odd.

I didnt find any malicious code on the actual site though, which was good.

Thank you everyone for great help! I'm trying most stuff I see here. But still I really don't think I have this solved at all, and the frustrating part is that I can't confirm it either way. So far I've hassled Godaddy, Trend Micro and Clickbank. CBs yet to respond.

Thanks for doing that John you were helpful. The reason we settled on Anti-virus software, was that a few previous customer emails said something like this: Trend Micro comes up saying: this site could be a scam or contain malicious software

So I also believe there 'may have been' a false positive detection of an unsecured website. But I can only confirm that my site is not blocked now. I cannot confirm if it was blocked previously or not. So people blocked today 'could be' cached from a previous 'blockage' maybe, and the problem will slowly go away - hopefully - but I don't know? I can't confirm anything.

        But wait - there's more:

To add to confusion, this morning I had an email from a potential customer, with (possibly) an entirely new problem ("possibly" cause most people don't write back with details of the error they encounter):

I got your email regarding the error message. I tried to re purchase the product but I get the following message:

There was 1 error on the page:
        • We were unable to authorize your payment. Please make corrections to your payment information and try again, or try a different payment method. (3)

A possible CB error? It could also very well be a dodgy card or something minor too, but sales are still very low and I'm investigating everything I see or hear about. The customer swears the digits are correct - still nothing solid. Considering the timing (and the fact I am looking for a problem) I don't think this is a 'one off' unrelated thing. But again, I'm not 100% sure.

Could possibly be one of two things:

        1) (BEST CASE) Anti-Virus Mistake: should be solved today and sales are just slow - I'm trying to believe this.

        2) Something Else: in this case Im not going well at all. Still have an Unidentified Flying Problem. Hopefully CB will enlighten me or I will obtain enough customer feedback to shed more light, I lost two good affiliates today and I think this 'brick wall' should be long solved by now.

Thanks everyone and any other ideas please let me know...

You should post the link to your product here so we can see if we get an error or not, and if so what error we get.

Also did you contact your hosting provider? They might be able to help.

It might also be McAfee Site Advisor blocking the site. I have McAfee Site Advisor and it blocks websites sometimes, or google chrome will block websites sometimes saying the website isn't safe.

Just received an email from Trend Micro saying:

Whatever that means... So I am hoping this is all over now.

I also thought it would be fixed yesterday. As for the affiliate theory, I'm pretty sure not John but I'll check GA again. I also did lose 2 decent affiliates over this so far but they'll come back if the problem is fixed, I'm sure.

Also, I only read the last line of your comment just now because as soon as I read the second line I went off and implemented it. I did have 2 links operating for a split-test previously, but hadn't tried a third. So now I'm testing a fresh order link (for the first time) which could fix everything. I believe Mrexclusive said this straight up and I overlooked it as I had already eliminated one link, that was silly.

I got locked up with clickbank a few times. One for getting too many refunds and I was doing the refunds because I didn't want to deal with those customers. Others for crap.

Seems Clickbank is getting too big for there britches like paypal did. This is why I am switching to click2sell, my own merchant account, moneybookers, payza and a whole lot more switching.
