My Journey to Six-Figures (What I've learned along the way.)

Hey guys,

We hit six-figures in our business a couple years ago and
I wanted to share some of the core lessons that we learned
to get there.

1. Consistent Lead Flow is Key.

Your subscriber list is the FOUNDATION of your business.

I wish someone would have kicked me in the butt, knocked me
in the head and forced me to start building my list from Day 1.

When it comes to building a business online, nothing generates
on-demand traffic and long-term revenue like a list of engaged
customers and subscribers.

If you're not building this long-term asset in your business,
then you're not really building a business - you're playing
with a hobby.

Your subscriber list is the lifeblood of your business. It's the
money engine in your business. If you want to have your best
year in 2012 - then focus ALL of your marketing efforts
on building your subscriber list.

I ask myself 2 VERY important questions at the end of each day:

1. What have I done to GROW my list?

AND

2. What have I done to SERVE my list?

Do that day in and day out and you'll be well on your
way to six-figures.

Continue chasing bright, shiny objects and you'll probably
be in the exact same place next year at this time.

2. Speed of Implementation

Success comes to those who take massive action.

No one is going to give you a perfect business plan or the exact
steps that you need to take. This is not like a job where someone
tells you exactly what you need to do each day.

You are in charge of your own success.

And that means doing things before you're comfortable doing them.

I've talked to WAY too many entrepreneurs who have been working
on their product for YEARS!! And still haven't released it cause
it's not quite perfect yet.

Those are the kind of people who simply aren't going to make
it in this business.

This game is NOT about perfection. It's about taking MASSIVE
action, monitoring your results, and modifying from there.

That's why it's so important to TRACK all of your traffic
online. Using something like Hypertracker or Adtrackz
Gold so you know exactly which traffic sources are
converting to subscribers and sales.

Otherwise, you'll never learn from all the action
you're taking.

When you're tracking everything, you'll know EXACTLY
what's working and what's not working so that you
can modify your action from there.

Way too many people are shooting blindly!!

Doing a whole bunch of stuff but they have no idea
what's working or what's not working.

And even worse - they keep doing the same thing!

Massive action is critical!

Failure is the key to progress.

But...

You can only start scaling things when you actually KNOW
what's working and what's not working.

3. Recurring Income is My Favorite Business Model.

I've tested lots of different ways of making money online.

In high school I started doing adsense. Which wasn't too bad
back then but today it's about the worst business model you
could possibly follow.

I've also done affiliate marketing and product creation.

But my favorite business model by far is recurring revenue.

Membership sites are hands-down one of the best ways to
create consistent, recurring revenue each month.

Now, unlike others I'm certainly not going to tell you
that it's easy.

Cause it's not!

Membership sites take quite a bit of work.

Way too many people are looking for a shortcut when they
should be focused on how to provide people with massive value!

For my own membership site we add new content every week.

Plus, we also do a LIVE webinar each week. And we have a
forum where our members interact.

It definitely requires some work, but it's totally worth it
because it brings in revenue EVERY day.

For example, today I woke up, checked my stats and I had
already brought in $780 from our membership site. Imagine
waking up to realize you had ALREADY made hundreds of dollars.

That's the kind of business I like to run.

Now of course we have other things on top of that. But the
membership site is our core. It's the foundation.

4. Testing & Tracking are the KEY to scaling your business.

We are constantly split-testing in our business.

Testing different squeeze pages, sales pages, email subject
lines, etc...

This is one of the biggest keys to scaling your business.

I just recently finished up a split-test on our sales letter
that resulted in a 60% increase in conversions.

Imagine the impact that would have on your sales.

Bringing in 60% more profits WITHOUT having to drive any
additional traffic.

Each increase in conversions also allows us to do
more paid advertising - bringing in consistent
lead flow.

However, one of the biggest mistakes people make
with split-testing is that they test the small
stuff.

When you first start testing your squeeze page or
your sales letter - you want to test DRASTIC changes.

On your squeeze page - test drastically different
designs. Test a super simple short page.

On your sales letter - test a video sales letter
vs. text.

You want to test the BIG things.

Those are the ones that are going to give you a big
jump in conversions. Then, once you find the control
piece - that's when you can start testing the more
granular variables - the headline, the submit button,
background color, etc...

But test the big things first because that's where
your biggest breakthroughs will come from.

    Kim,

Thank you. Great information there and brings it back to basics a bit. "The money is in the list" is one of the first things us IMer's learn. It is something that I focused on a lot in 2011 and will continue to do so in 2012.

Your insight is very helpful. Do you have more then 1 membership site? Continue the hard work and have a great year!

One of the first things we learn and probably the last thing we do, maybe even in the double sense of meaning, as well. :-)

When we finally realize this we never turn back.

PS. I just saved this one. Think I will print it out and stick it to my wall, as well.

      Sooo true!!

As entrepreneurs it's very easy to get distracted by the bright
shiny objects because we LOVE new projects.

But you make the most money when you stay laser-focused on
the fundamentals: list building, engagement, split-testing, creating
      new offers, etc...

    Kim,

Your generosity to this community has not gone unnoticed over the years I've seen you here. You've made some solid points and they are all equally important in my book.

There is one thing that you wrote that I wanted to emphasize:

create consistent, recurring revenue each month.

Now, unlike others I'm certainly not going to tell you

    !
My first 2 membership websites weren't even password-protected because they were just an autoresponder series! Proof that people will pay for valuable content!

Between having a list and a membership website(s), you can definitely compound your returns with less effort over time. Yes, it's hard w-o-r-k in the beginning, but I really love the recurring income model. And when you bring some serious value to the table, most of your customers are going to love you for it!!

I love the idea of tracking your links like that. You mentioned hypertracker and Adtrackz Gold... do those do the same thing as something like budurl.com? I hadn't heard of the first two, but it looks like they have a one-time cost as opposed to a monthly cost. You mention recurring income... well I definitely prefer to earn recurring income over being recurring income for someone else

Adtrackz Gold and Hypertracker will give you MUCH deeper insights than Budurl. They allow you to track each source individually and know exactly how many subscribers and sales were generated from each different traffic source.

I'm actually switching over to CPVLab right now for our tracking because it allows you to track the entire funnel. So it allows you to easily track which sources your sales come from through your email follow-up sequence.

That way you know exactly when your paid advertising has hit profitability.

Hey Kim, I've also used Adtrackz Gold and it doubled my profits a few years ago (knowing which advertising method works is the key). I'll take a look at CPVLab though, thanks for pointing it out .

lol - I felt like taking a break for a little while, but for some reason after I read this thread, I have the sudden urge to keep working.

    Thanks again Kim!

    Cool post Kim.

I agree with you on every single point... If everybody would: 1. Learn, 2. Take massive action, and 3. Be consistent .... I believe more people would also be touching the six-figure mark.

It takes a lot of guts to take that first step, but once massive action becomes habit it almost becomes like a high when you see results from your work.

Congrats on all the success, and thanks for sharing your journey!

I don't want to completely hijack the thread... but if you buy Adtrackz Gold or CPVLab, are you able to track as many links from as many websites as you want? Or only on one of your websites? I looked all over and couldn't find that info anywhere.

On the CPVLab Website it says:

"You can Install 1 instance of CPV Lab, however your landing pages and offers do not need to be on the same domain or server."

Adtrackz Gold allows you to track links on the domain you have it installed on. However, it also comes with an Unlimited Domain License so you could install it on multiple domains to track different websites.

Also - keep in mind that it can track conversions on remote affiliate websites as well.

      Hope that helps!

nice post. Where things changed for me is getting off my arse and stop saying I will create a list and actually built one.

There is something that feels good, about know when you push the broadcast buttong you are almost guaranteed to make money. That is powerful, so the bigger your list and the better relationship with them, the more you will make.
