Help For Article Marketers

I run an online magazine, which also serves as an article directory. While operating my site I review many, many articles a day. I can say with conviction that many article marketers seem to be struggling with some basics that will affect their level of success. I hope to reinforce for them what it takes to be successful.

1) The majority of articles out there are not well-written. By this I mean things are spelled wrong, grammatical errors are prevalent, and sentences are not well formed. Ezine Articles has laid out the best policy I have seen on what you should be submitting. Read it. Follow it. It will dramatically improve your results.

2) Have your article read by someone not informed on your subject. See if they understand it or spot errors. This could be a friend or spouse. My wife is very good with English, so she proofs everything I write. She has helped me avoid embarrassment many times.

3) Use your keyword in your title. I can't believe how many people don't do this.

4) I want to reinforce the fact that spelling errors can really hurt results. Imagine reading a writer's piece and seeing their keyword misspelled. How will you get the results you need in search if your keyword is spelled wrong? I see this every day.

5) If you do not write your articles and outsource it instead, invest in a good strong writer. Be willing to spend a little more money for a good writer. Even though I usually write my own stuff I have outsourced certain projects to others who have time to do research and write a good piece. I have been known to pay $50 for a 400 word piece, and have found it to be well worth it. (Hint: If you find a good piece in your niche on the web, contact the author and see what they will charge you to write one for you.)

6) Please read the threads in this forum about the Resource Box. I could say more, but the threads do a great job.

7) If a directory does not publish your piece due to errors in your writing, they are actually doing you a favor. You get a do over. Take advantage of that.

Well, that's it. I am hoping that some of the article marketers will take the extra moments to make sure things are ship-shape and improve their results.

Good info. I have done some article marketing, not much as I'm just starting out in the internet game, but plan do a lot more. It's nice to see a list of dos and don'ts to help me keep from making those embarrassing mistakes.

I'd like to thank you for the heads up on your site as well. I checked it out and it looks nice.

Killer tips. Great to see this from an outside perspective of someone who actually is on the OTHER end. Very cool.

    Thanks Marcus -

    Steve Robison here.

I've been a bit unsure on how to proceed with article marketing.

With your tips, I can move forward with confidence.

Marcus - re #1: that's good to know but not surprising.

Quality writing trumps dross if you expect pages to remain ranked (and read!) over the long run.

Of course, as long as there's a market for low priced content, then some (many?) writers will meet that need. Can't say I blame 'em.

Makes it easier for the ace writers to stand out ;-)

One last point: If you decide to use an article spinner, proofread the result and tweak it to make sense. I have yet to see a spinner that produces a final result that doesn't need tweaking.
