Having a passive income online... Is it hard?

So over the past 12 months ive been doing many things to make money on the internet. Ive Made over 15k in 2011 from being a complete newbie.

In October 2011 I started to flip websites and ever since for the past few months ive flipped websites. YES when you flip websites you do earn good money but 1 month you could earn $4000 the next month you could earn $400. The income is not passive.

Also during 2011 I made SO MANY WEBSITES! (I tend to build websites and not finish them) So in January (this year) I sold them all. Just to let you know none of the sites made any money, I just made random sites and moved on when really I should of worked on the sites and I should of made them make money.

So now the only way I make money online is through website flipping but the income I make from it isn't sustainable. I have one other website and that's a website that sells website scripts. The site has made around $100 so far (since oct 2011) And I know its not alot however I didn't nothing apart from make the site to make the sales. But now ive started work on SEO for the site and the rankings are getting better.

I plan to move away from website flipping for good in 2012 and I want to own websites that make a passive income. So far I have one website and that's my website scripts site, but now I want to make no more than 10 other sites that can make me a passive income online. I want to make at least $2000 a month from the sites.

So.. What do you think the sites should be?

I was thinking amazon niche websites because they seem profitable. Ive had a few ideas on websites I could make. Do amazon sites seem like a good idea?
Im thinking of making gaming related websites like I did in late 2010 and early 2011. The gaming websites that I made did actually make $5000 with ClickBank (as an affiliate) So I might go back into the gaming niche.. Does this seem like a good idea?
Or do you think there is anything else I can do?

I don't really want to spend much money in investment in order to achieve a passive income. Maybe $500 max. I made $1530 profit in January and im hoping to make $2000 in feb. And I will have to make this money with website flipping because so far I have no sites that make money.

But I want this change because I want websites that earn a passive income. So warriors? Can you help me?

Good post! I, like you have been very guilty of making websites and wandering off without working them.

I think you should go back to the gaming websites. You've had a good experience in that area and that should help you get started again. Just find an area you really want to work in and that should keep you going and trying to make everything you do better. That should lead to passive income.

I have heard that gaming sites are good also. Just stick with it and give it sometime.
You have good results in the past so you know it is possible.

Well, this clearly puts you in the top percentile (probably in a small fraction of the top percentile?) of people who start internet marketing, so extremely well done.

I don't think it's about what you spend.

At least, it never has been for me: my expenses are minimal, to put it mildly.

I think it's more about how securely you set up whatever you do; how flexible you can be with allowing for changes (product changes, when sometimes necessary), and so on, to minimise future work; how much you can keep yourself in control of all aspects of the business - and so on.

In my opinion, the Big Unspoken Issue, in this regard (as in so many) is about whether or not you want, and build, a business that depends on search engines for its primary traffic. As so any Warriors found (some to their very great cost) during 2011, a business that depends on Google for most of its traffic is only ever going to be one algorithm-change away from a potential accident. I suspect that "passive income" and "SEO dependence" actually have some degree of mutual exclusivity, as business practicalities ...

To me, it does. Purely because you've already made $5k ClickBank income from it.

I can't talk intelligently about it because I know nothing about the niche.

But in any niche in which you've made $5k from ClickBank, unless it's "time-sensitive" or something (which this isn't, right?), it's possible to add to that income by doing more of what worked and less of what didn't. How passive it is, is possibly a different matter.

Looking at the information ive gathered i think i need to plan my websites.

When i make websites i never plan anything which to be honest is a good and bad thing. I need to start making plans for my websites. Also i did make $3000 in January but i spent $1500 of that, so that might say something.. im not shaw. I need to lower my expenses i think.

Well it depends on how much you want to bring in... some say it's easy to start making a few bucks each day, but to earn up towards $100/day you will have to put some work in it. Many ppl here have been doing this for years and still don't make any money.

As in gaming sites, what do you mean? Like farmville type gaming sites, or video game reviews? I am curious and very new to IM.

  since you're familiar with the gaming niche...it's good to build again sites in that niche !
  
  You can also outsource all the labor work involved !
  Start with a couple of sites and then you can scale up !
  Even you can purchase cheap niche websites with potential and just promote them in order to make an income !
  
  OR just go to Complete Web Sites For Sale! order the creation of 5 niche adsense websites and a couple of Amazon review websites just to diversify.......

It's not hard to get started, but some passive income stream can be dangerous. The most popular one is massive amounts of Adsense sites. All you have to do is sneeze and Google will pull the ban hammer out and your stream is gone. Replacing it with anything else like adBrite is going to cut your income in a HUGE way.

Do be careful of the method you choose and how volatile it is before you rely on it.

Great to see you are making money and as stated above here most people try and fail so looks like you are well on your way to a success.

You definately need to focus on less sites, you say 10 but I would go with 5 and then rinse and repeat the process once they are a success. A lot of building a sustainable income is finding something that works are repeating it.

Then, what will make the big difference as to whether you make an ok earning online or a very nice income is what you then do. If you have a target of $2000 for a compfortable living then push above this to say $2500-$3000 and then diversify and try bigger better things. So start looking at big paying sites, make bigger sites targetting multiple products, email capture lists to market multiple products to, you get where this is going.

You want to milk your traffic for all its worth, if you keep hitting the gambling type niches then build a list then after a while do you have a product that you could sell, then do it market to your list then get others to JV along.

Once you are earning a passive income then this is when you have time to improve your knowledge and build on your IM business. Try different products, strategies, research learn and you will become very successful. People think it is easy but it is not, you need to keep focused (yes finish the sites this time ) and always push yourself. There is a lot of money to be made so make yourself one of the ones to make it!!!

  You should focus more on one project at a time. Are you building a list through these sites you're building? You need to be doing that for sure asap. Also think about getting into one specific niche and build up a brand and business in it. That is one of the best ways to build a huge, deep foundational business.

I am a newbie in this making money online "thing," but what I have found is a system that teaches me step by step how to find a niche, advertise, and make money from it. Every great business needs a plan, so start your business plan by researching the market. Try a little niche research: FLIPPA.com and see what sites are selling... See how many websites are out there related to your niche, and begin to differentiate your plan from what the world has already been exposed to on the NET..Keep it new and fresh!!!

Yes, there are a lot of very successful people online making passive income from niche sites but like another poster said, you're only one algorithm change away or one unhappy google reviewer away from dropped in the rankings or deindexed. So keep that in mind. I think flipping sites like you did was/is a good idea and maybe doing both (flipping and buidling for yourself is a happy medium). Good luck, for me, I think it's time to start flipping.

15k is awesome and you're right, you are only as good as your next flip (right now) when the name of the game is passive income come rain or shine, sleeping or awake. A few of the guys mentioned keeping to one task at a time. That's great advice from what i've seen.

I have made a decent income buying pre-made micro niche adsense sites which take little work and can be outsourced. Check out some of the developers offers on WF and order income producing services from a tenured member who has proven results/good reputation. Anyway, keep hustlin'!

Sounds like we are all at the mercy of google. Sounds extremely risky if so much time is being invested. What other methods of marketing are available to succeed and be secure?

Not trying to be mean but you should think a bit more deeper. There's google's alternative, behold the mighty Facebook.

Unlike Google, don't you have to worry about bans and slaps. There's twitter and linkedin as well.

I'm still surprised there are people that think the world ends with Google.
