Is the Argos affiliate any good in the UK?

A month ago I setup a review rebiste and was shicked that its making money already so I have got the IM bug!

I have been using Amazon associates for the last month and making sales but am wondering if

a) having to affiliate links on one review is good practice
b) if a is acceptable then is the Argos programme works and converts well
c) if I should only consider one affiliate which one should it be?

Advice would be appreciated. I suppose I could just setup a second review site with just Argos products.

i have never used it before but any service that most people use nearly every day is highly profitable. i used to be an affiliate of mysupermarket (people do grocery shopping weekly) and i used to make 2000 GBP every month.

    Good for you

Why don't you set up another website purely around Argos, I shop online with Argos quite a bit, so if I do, I'm sure a lot of others do as well.

Just as a matter of interest, do you use Amazon UK or .com

    Cheers

I had totally forgotten about the Argos affiliate program. I think that, as Argos is so popular in the UK as a recognized brand that offer's good prices, the conversion should be good for a UK market.

I think it's definitely worth a shot anyway. If you're already having success with review sites you're obviously doing something right and I'm sure Argos will convert for you.

I dunno, Argos goes through Affiliate Window, right? Argos have quite a lot of trust in the UK, should be similar difficulty/ease Amazon to promote. I think Argos offer a flat 4 or 5%, which is worse than Amazon if you get into the higher tiers on the latter. Why not include links to the same product on both and let the buyer decide?

Who says you can't earn money as an eBay affiliate any more? My stats say otherwise

Thanks for your comments. I think for the first approach I might well put a link to both amazon and argos on each product and see if the makes a difference.

The good thing about argos is they don't put an earning limit on like the amazon £7 limit.

Just to let you know, Argos's like for like sales fell in 2011. One of the majors not to do well at Christmas. Can't remember if they had a profit warning, but sales in UK not great last year. Will that matter?

Was just looking at the Argos affiliates website and it looks like the commission is only 2-3% which seems really low. I think that's with CJ though - it may well be higher with Affiliate Window.

I use the Argos website alot but only to reserve items - I always pick them up in store myself rather than actually buy them online. From what I've seen most other people within driving distance of their local Argos do the same. I wonder would that take quite a bit from your sales?

The commissions may only be 2 or 3% but Amazon has a cap on their uk associates program of £7 no matter how high the price of something you sell.

I often get sales for products on Amazon.co.uk of about £250 but only ever get £7 commission, don't know whether Argos has a cap at all but if not then depending on what you sell they could be much better that Amazon.co.uk.

Hmm I hadn't thought of that, (reserving etc), To be honest I tend to mostly do that as well. Be interesting to discover if they pay out on reservations.

On another note, what about Tesco online...

You can still make 25p for each item that is reserved and picked up in store, so not a total loss.

Argos is in financial trouble yes, but nowhere near as bad as someone like HMV. They are not going broke before a lot of noise so relatively safe (have other foreign and domestic ventures which are funding them).

Argos also have a lot of great deals. If you visit the site HotUKDeals you will regularly see great offers by Argos.

Point in question, this item is currently on the main page with a high popularity rating:
        http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/cook...-argos-1138786

It's also operated via Commission Junction, with a dedicated affiliat support and education team.

Definitely not a bad punt, and I would happily add them to any price comparing niche site.

From what I read you earn 25p for things that are reserved and collected. Which is low but I think if the reservation is made you earn the 20p anyway.

Becoming an Argos affiliate seems like a good idea, I would also look at other major stores in the U.K...as I know some of them offer affiliate commissions as well.

I have been working as a courier for a large U.k company and you would not believe how many parcels that our vans carry consist of M&S, John Lewis and Amazon products...may be worth a look at.

I actually used to be friends with someone on the Argos dedicated team so can help out with a few of the queries.

The commissions begin at 2% for home delivery and move up to a maximum of 3% when £10k revenue (per month) is reached. The programme is exclusively with CJ.

Currently they only offer 25p for anything that is reserved (whether it is collected or not), however this is changing to a percentage commission structure very shortly - but will only pay on collected items.

Conversion is actually very strong, but that is buoyed by the inclusion of voucher and cashback into that mix. Content is very much up there with other retailers, however not as strong as Amazon. What Argos do have in their favour is the duration of the cookie period (currently 28 days) compared to the 1 day that Amazon offer. In reality i'm not sure how much this would help but it's a nice to have.

The markup on those goods for the retailer will be huge in contrast.

It baffles me why they would only offer 2-3%.

I tend to try and push other merchants rather than Argos because they pay 25p for 'click and collect' which in all my time of promoting them is the only option my referrals tend to choose
I can do 8 sales with Argos and make £2 but with other merchants this could be up to around £200 depending on what im promoting.
There is my 25p worth of advice anyhow.....the decision is yours

With more and more Argos stores closing and moving to online sales and distribution, I think it could work well as it still a very recognisable brand.
