Craft or Fun Niche Monetization Help Needed

Hey Warriors!

So my screwed up Pinterest addiction has me contemplating a new domain. ("Just say No" is NOT in my vocabulary).

I have discovered that I'm addicted to kids' crafts.

I have 3 kids - okay so one of them is too old for this stuff - but I'm making all sorts of kid crafts or doing fun activities I find on there or elsewhere with my kids.

But I don't want to put this on my marketing blog. Today I had to stick one on one of my toy blogs.

I want to consider setting up a domain for family fun or kid fun stuff BUT... I've never monetized a niche like this.

My issues?

1. This is stuff I primarily have around the house or pick up at WalMart, so it's not really an "order online" niche.

2. I have NOOooooo desire to write an info product on kid crafts. Blog entries would be fun, but no books.

So what are my options from anyone with experience in this niche? Just AdSense? Would it be worth it?

There are TONS of traffic keywords with low competition for stuff like this, but my tutorial would be complete (ie: like how to make a valentine candy butterfly) so there wouldn't be a need to click out.

If you have any ideas, let me know if you get a sec.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Tiff

    Hi Tiffany,

There is certainly a way to monetize a site like that. My suggestion is to check out similar sites that have heavy traffic and take notes on how they are monetizing. Join their mailing lists, click on their ads, and get an idea of what products they are pushing. One place to start might be Kid Crafts Magazine

    Good luck,

Adsense is one of the methods.

Apart from this you can actually see what other competitors are doing !!
start off as a Hobby. Get a facebook landing page designed.

You can also sell a FEW e-books !!
    Hope that helps..

      Hey Tiff,

I would probably start out with AdSense - I just took a quick look at all of the kids crafts advertisers and there seems to be quite a diverse range within the AdSense program.

I used to have a DIY site (even though I know nothing about DIY) and I used to always come across many advertisers for arts and crafts. The whole market seems to pick up around term breaks, Easter, summer, Christmas etc - so it's definitely easy to monetize.

I used to use an advertising program called Rivit Media. They are like AdSense and then specialize in DIY, Arts and Crafts etc. They performed very well for me - much better than AdSense - but, the only catch is that you have to have a lot of traffic in order to get into their program.

There are lots of crafts products out there that you could also review and promote as an affiliate (as well as having AdSense) until you move to a specialized program like Rivit Media - that's what I did anyway.

I think that if there are people searching and you enjoy writing about it and creating posts - there's always a way to monetize!

    Tiffany -

What about going one step further and going after the homeschool niche? I've seen sites where the author creates printable or written mini-lessons (more like short report length than ebook length), then sells them as printable pdf files to homeschooling moms who are looking for easy activities for their children.

You will get some income from AdSense on that kind of niche, plus if you add text links to relevant Amazon products as you write your blog posts, you will make a bit from that too.

The main factor determining the profits from the above, is traffic, so learn effective backlinking and other ways to get interested visitors.

While you could create an informational product without doing any of the work yourself, by interviewing other experts in the area (offer them a link in the product, in exchange), to be honest, without extremely strong sales copy, selling an Ebook from your own site is unlikely to bring in much profit.

Have you considered amazon products? They have lots of things to sell to kids.
