How do you make money in Collaborative Markets???

Wondering what your opinion is about making money in a market where collaboration trumps payment (Green and Sustainable, for example). Readers want the information for free and advertisers want the publicity for free. Most won't pay for advertising because they consider it good-will, to mutually advance the environmental agenda. Google adsense is very unreliable in this market. Most PR is done on an exchange basis. It makes for "warm and fuzzy" feelings, but not such great income.

    Find a way to get an exchange that you can make money from! While people involved in the areas you mention often, as you say, don't want to give money, they will often have skills, contacts, advice etc. from which you CAN make money! One thing they might do is write great testimonials for your services, which can be essential in starting out in any field, for example.

    Not that it's in the field that you are talking about, but because it certainly does relate in the sense that I am giving away something for free, and not asking for any money, but getting a valuable exchange that will make me money, have a quick look at the concept of my WSO (see my Sig). This is not just self-promotion, but a genuine comment on a non-money exchange method that really works and is a fully win/win for everyone involved (unlike a lot of what's going on in IM!), and makes me money too
