Guest blogging Question????

Hey all,

I have a question. I've noticed many people using this technique and i'm curious as to whether it would still help me in regards to SEO.

I focus heavily on guest blogging to get contextual do-follow links. What i'm seeing is people buying high PR domains which allows them to get many bloggers who will write for them because they believe the domain holds authority. While these website do have a high PR, they barely have any content and hardly any links pointing back to them.

Should you even bother writing for them to get links? Anyone have any opinions on this?

    I believe when looking for a guest blogger (I might at one time) Page Rank plays a huge part in it. Honestly, you want to have good content from a well-known author and also have a good catch when it comes to SEO.

    It Helps a lot when the authors or guest bloggers know that they are getting something of value for their extremely well written content thats being posted on your site.

    Don't be misled by PR. Google PR is just an indicator of the page's possible authority. Fact is, Google has long stopped relying on page rank alone as the ranking factor - in fact, the Google algo counts over 300 signals to gauge a page's authority.

    People relying on PR are doing 2006-era SEO. Just because a domain has high PR doesn't mean it has actual authority. PR updates happen once in a blue moon, and if it is a dropped domain with zero content, in all likelihood, it'll drop the PR as well.

    Use a tool like the OpenSiteExplorer.org to see a domain's authority and forget about PR.

    When I guest blog, I look at the site's layout, its audience, the kind of content it has, the number of followers, links, update frequency etc. - things Google looks at as well. If I feel it is a quality site, I'll guest blog for it, even if it has low PR.

    RayFinckle, I engage in guest blogging also. The key to making it return any benefit(s) at all is to place your content on a heavily trafficked site that caters to your target market. I wouldn't focus too much on PR, as I've seen high PR values assigned to low traffic sites. It's the targeted traffic that you want. Nothing else.

    I'm sure it helps but you have to review the site first. PR updates do not happen often so do not really rely on that. But do not also rely on opensiteexplorer as it is also just a portion of what google's algo is. Though OSE is from seomoz which are from SEO experts and analysts. Just be sure the site has lots of traffic.

    Absolutely! Like you've already mentioned, these links are relevant links, and Google just announced that it's placing much more weight on relevant links from here on out.

    And, remember, guest blogging does a whole lot more than just fetch you links. It also places your expertise, your name, your business' name, and your link out in front of highly-targeted traffic. Exposure like that can be even more powerful than the links you're building, because it's not dependent on some button-pusher at Google headquarters.

      Thanks everyone, that's what I was thinking, their just using PR to get inexperienced online marketers to write content for them by showing a high PR website.

      I use myblogguest forum to help me find websites to write for and there are definitely people taking advantage of people by buying high PR domains which entices people to write for them.

      If anyone knows any good health sites that offer guest blogging feel free to post them
