My first attempt at List building - it really does work!

I build Adsense/Amazon/Affiliate sites, and I am good at it! Either people click on Ads, or they click an affiliate link. It's the way I've monetized my sites.

Anyway, I'm always reading on this forum about how we should be giving away freebies like eBooks to build up a list. I've been wanting to give it a try - and have been looking around for the right opportunity.

So I have long avoided the health/lose weight niches, because with all the competition, it always seemed pointless trying to compete... That was until I was hit with some inspiration from a great weight loss meal plan that a friend was following. I asked for a copy of the plan (it's not copyrighted), and was on my way!

I researched a little, and found a couple of good keywords (with low numbers, but highly targeted vistors).

It took me an hour to make up a nice ebook and graphics.

I've made a nice looking site, put up 7 or 8 articles over the last 4 weeks, and optimised the site. All of the articles also tell the reader to grab a copy of the eBook.

I'm ranked #5 for my main keywords, and every day I'm getting 2 or 3 more people added to my list, which I think is brilliant for my first attempt!

So I've just loaded up my auto responder with great advice, tips, and also the odd affiliate link! Now my work is done.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this site performs, and how much it makes over the coming months!

    That's great! I'm just starting out building my list too, in weight loss like you. I've literally just started and get excited every time someone joins the list. I'm focussing on developing a really good relationship with my subs. I see the start of something very beautiful!.

    One thing I will say is getting that first sub took a bit of going at. I've got a free gift too, really valuable and relevant to the people who visit my site. But I tell you it has been my squeeze page which has been pulling them in. I'm also testing a pop up form. Hasn't affected my traffic so far and I've had a sign up through it. Will test some more though.

    Congratulations, if more of us took the initiative the way you did there would be a lot more success stories online because of list building and niche marketing. And to do it by taking on the weight loss niche makes it all the more impressive. Good luck, but I don't think you're going to need it.

      This is probably the best thing you will read on the warrior forum today.

      It does take some action and also hard work, but that one sentence is very powerful and has changed my life.

      Reverse engineering the gurus is a VERY SMART thing you want to be doing.

      The gurus are selling some good stuff, but the power is not "what they sell" it is the marketing and "how they sell it too you"

      Study this and use it in your business and you could make MONSTER profits!

    Yeah list building is amazing. I have done it both ways: affiliate sites with no list-building & more authority type sites focusing on building a list of targeted prospects.

    Having a list gives you such a tremendous point of leverage, because once you get a list in the several thousands (and your list trusts you) then it is pretty easy to review products/services you believe in, recommend them to your list, & make some relatively easy & quick money.

    Not to mention it is a terrific long-term asset that adds tremendous value to your bottom line.

    Congratulations. Success is all about giving before receiving. By creating a report and putting it out there giving it away for free people feel like it's a fair exchange to leave their email address to get it.

    Now why dont you put your adsense pages into your auto responder and send out a message to them once every few daya to visit one of your articles and hopefully you will get an Adsense click or two.

    The added advantage of course is that one person will keep on receiving your emails rather than just clicking an ad and never coming back to your site which would have likely been the case tif they had not received the report.

      It's just a very common health and meal plan that is widely available online. When I searched, I found the same ideas on a thousand different websites, but not in any published book or eBook. Also everyone has put their own spin on it.

      So I thought why not go ahead and put the whole thing in my own words and package it differently.

      And that was it! Didn't take long. It's only 6 pages (large text, lot's of white space!)

    I think you're doing a great thing by growing your email list. It's like the best way to have secure, financial income on the internet... especially if you grow your list into the thousands.

    well done, building lists means building real assets for your business making your IM business more sustainable and dependable. Even if for whatever reason other forms of traffic to you sites/offers should sadly and quickly go down you know you always have your lists to count on

    I would say you are on correct track... it doesn't matter in which niche you are, but it matters if you have your own list or not... the list is actually what you should build as an asset in this business...

    I mean, Adsense/Affiliate sites are great if you know how to build traffic and get serious income from that type of work... but I think it's much easier to do this job if you have something valuable as high quality list...

    So, congrats on your move and good luck with your project... I'm sure it will pay off to you

    One thing I tell everybody who I talk to about building a list is.


    Don't worry if people unsubscribe, it happens all the time! I have about 20-25 unsubscribes per day and my list is still growing rapidly.

    The big time players can have up to 1000 unsubscribes per day. I was talking to someone yesterday and he said he had 2491 unsubscribers in ONE DAY. He didn't seem worried though because he has a launch coming up soon and reckons that he will get 30,000+ people on his list in the first week!

    good stuff

    building a list is a great asset to have but most people never do it because they think its too much work

    as long as you give away a great free offer to build your list with, the more valuable your free offer the more responsive your subscribers will be, also make sure you have a good sales funnel set up with your automation set up for when someone buys

    also dont forget to start building some other traffic methods up rather than just rely on google for your traffic

    It's all in the list. I am lucky enough to have a friend who makes a good living out of IM, who is mentoring me, and he said from the very beginning that list building is the key.

    One source I use which brings in lots of traffic is Facebook ads. Of course, it's paid, but the reach of the ads is massive and highly targeted, and as long as you have a well designed squeeze page that entices the reader to sign up, then it's well worth it. I get about a 50% conversion of those who click on to my page (the MMA one in my sig.).

    I do congratulate you for getting leads. But you need to make sales to make that work.

    I have got 8 leads now on my new squeeze page and It converts above 12% for leads.

    The main issue now is not only traffic but sales. Have you got any sales from your list?

    Weeeeell Steven, getting subscribers to your list doesn't mean that list-building works.

    When it 'works' is when you have turned those freebie-seeking subscribers into customers. That's the hard part, and one that I've had trouble with.

    Such a small book with all that white space is unlikely to impress, unless what little content there is is REALLY good.

    My personal experience in the weight-loss niche is that it's easier to rely on impulse-sales by selling your product directly from your website. Email marketing in this niche is tough, because everyone wants instant results, and it really isn't possible to give it to them.

    I do wish you luck, and I hope you DO make it work, and let us all know how it goes :p

    After struggling aimlessly in the IM world, I finally made the decision to drop everything else and decide to go with list building. You are right! list building does work.

    Now it's time to kick it up a notch or two.. possibly solo ads, a paid signature graphic here.. lots of additional steps to really get it in gear.
