Hello, I'm a newbie in blogging and am looking for some help. My plan is to eventually have 15-20 blogs (all different niches in the same field) What is a good company to use for my hosting? I'm on a very limited budget to start with and want to eventually turn profits using advertising and other methods on these blogs.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

    Hi

Hostgator can be good but I find their support sucks. It is only my opinion of them though.

For professional hosting I would use httpme.com or a cheaper alternative is Pagezonehosting.com who is a really good hoster with cheap reseller plans. I pay about $7 a month for 100gigs of space and 10 Gigs of bandwidth. I have had no problems with them.

Hostgator is a ripoff on price and offering nothing special and gets hacked a bit.

Hostgator actually provides amazing support: prompt and always solves my problems. Imo, they provide the best support in the industry.

You should not have to worry about price (you can even get the first month @ hostgator for $0.01 with coupon codes) for hosting because it is a necessary expense for your business. You should pay for hostgator for the same reasons that so many people use Aweber: even though they can be more expensive than some of their competitors, it's worth it for the quality you get back.

I've found the complete opposite, for the tiny pittance I pay them every month, their support has been incredibly good, and responsive as hell.

I have a pro dedicated server as well and the hostgator support has matched their support levels, even installing an application for me once, well above the call of duty for a shitty $10 hosting package.

Rip off on price, you get a reseller acount for about $20 a month. That's a ripoff ?

If you will be running 20 blogs on one hosting account I recommend getting a reseller plan so each blog has it's own control panel. You can get decent reseller plans for under $15 per month.

A HostGator reseller account (very reasonable cost) would be perfect for you. They are a solid hosting provider with everything you will need for your blogging desires.

I have never had a problem with their customer service and support; in fact, I recently had a blog hacked and they were very, very, helpful and responsive.

This incident should not reflect badly on their security; it is very good. The weakness was not on their end.

I can say that aside from a signing-up issue (they required a passport copy because we are UK) Hostgator have provided a good service for us to date. We shopped around a lot in the US for hosting and Hostgator was the end result. So far no problems.

I am using Hostgator and they are great. Why not test it for only 1 cent. Get a coupon here HostGator|Hosting Discount Coupon Codes - Digital Shopping Mall

Maybe that 1 cent is very affordable.

Since you can't PM, how about contacting me through Yahoo Messenger, Skype, or Twitter. Links under my pic.

Hostgator Baby Croc plan. Do not go lower, and higher is a waste. Baby Croc has very quick WordPress installation via Fantastico, and it's only $8. It can handle 30 blogs easily. I have had crazy good support, esp. considering the price, and their support forum is without peer. Alternately SurpassHosting, which is also great. Both have 24 hr phone and email support.

I heard good and bad things about Hostgator and recently took a chance with them. They gave me the third degree before allowing the account to be set up and the customer service operator was rude and that's putting it mildly. I had heard their customer service wasn't always great.

I use VodaHost and they have been absolutely wonderful.

I've been advised that Liquid Web is awesome but haven't tried them myself yet.

      Good luck with your blogging.

if the blogs are all realated to same niche then you shoudl consider ixwebhosting.com - they give you a dedicated ip's (8 ips for the $8/mo)
thats a crazy deal - check any other host and they charge you $2/mo for each additional ip.

also google search for 'ixwebhosting bonus'

We have a bunch of blogs with ixwebhosting, and they were all hacked recently with a .htaccess redirect - poor security on their part.

We have also found that any site with a database like a wiki or a membership site runs very slowly over there, which is why we only have blogs there.

Yes, it's a good price - but you get what you pay for.

Most of our other sites are with Bluehost, and they have been pretty reliable.

        Thanks for that update Chris,
I will have to look into how to harden my sites - any suggestion on what you guys did would be helpful.

I use ixwebhostiing mainly for my promotionl and seo sites - anything to do with Customer data and important DB's I manage on dedicated server. slichost has a awesome feature where your whole server install is backed up automatically daily/weekly as per your settings and can be restored with a click of a button.

Hey, if you use GoDaddy to buy .COM domains, you can get them for $7.95 with this coupon: OYH3. It's been working for 3 years now. (use to be 6.95 up until jan 1st 2009)

just for compare - do a seach for seohosting and you will see why a dedicated ip for each blog can be helpful and how the ixweb deal is a steal.

Thanks, good headsup, that would be useful, I've currently been spreading them out over 4 different hosting accounts.

In addition to information supplied by other fellow members, I also use:
    1. Referral:
Ask your business acquaintances, friends and family which web hosting provider is used for their respective organizations or if they can otherwise recommend a web hosting provider.
    2. Money Back Guarantee:
A good and reliable web hosting provider will dare to have a money back guarantee policy for their client. It'll will give more confidence knowing their web hosting provider is not some sort of "back yard" company.
    3. Check with a particular web hosting provider (through their "contact us" interface) whether they are able to provide service according to your needs in terms of price, storage space, traffic volume permittable and last but not least is for them to provide a guarantee 24/7/365 support (possible in writting).
Hopefully my input can be of help to you.

I use bluehost. Never had any problems with them and they have very affordable pricing. I have 180 domains registered with them and have never had a site go down, that I can recall (during a 6 year period).

I really like HostNine ... First off they do backup's every day unlike Hostgator that does them only every week. And if you have ever had a site hacked that daily backup can be a lifesaver. Secondly I find the customer service at Hostnine much better and they get problems taken care of right away.

    Just my 2 cents

Thanks for this post "moneymakingmaniac" I was going to ask a similar question but (embarrassed) I can't find how to do this!!!! So I'll ask it here.

Like you I plan on setting up multiple blogs (ebay-commerce) which I will use SEO to drive traffic (my plan, see how it goes!) anyhow, about 3 mths ago I signed up with HostNine.com for a $6.95/mth account which gave me unlimited hosting. Now I didn't know what that meant at the time but since I have tried to host several domains I have found that the only way I can do additional domains is as an ADDON (which is easy enough to do via Cpanel).

Issue. Each domain will be a seperate niche targeted site which I will develop links to help with SEO.

    1. If I do this through the ADDON feature, will this affect SEO i.e. with the search engines recognise the website as a "stand alone" domain?

    2. Can each site be set up as a seperate blog? since as an addon I have to access the domain through my primary domain or the first domain I hosted i.e. public_html/primarydomain.com/addondomain1.com. So my understanding is that there is no seperate Cpanel for the addon domain. IS this correct? and if so how the heck do you add a wordpress blog to the addon?
    3. How is an addon different to a subdomain. Can the search engines determine the difference. I know subdomain is public_html/primarydomain.com/subdomain for the folders and looks like www(dot)subdomain(dot)primarydomain(dot)extension [I had to remove this as the forum wouldn't let me post a "link"!]. But why do hosting companies have the addon featue and not just make either subdomains or seperate domains?

    4. Is this why I am reading above that if you want multiple BLOG domains it is best to get a reseller account, where each domain will have its own Cpanel?

    5. As a newbie, do hosting accounts have contracts or are you just locked into whatever timeframe you paid for?

Sorry for all the questions. I hope they make sense and I'm looking forward to some answers

    Thanks
Trudy (Australia) [haven't had time to set up my signature yet.]

PS HostNine have been responsive in getting back to me, but their answers are often too short i.e. haven't completely answered my questions! but I would consider setting up a reseller account with them for around $20/mth - as long as Im not locked in for 12 mths.

I can help you out a bit.

Each addon domain is a separate entity, whether they are located in your root folder, or another domain's folder, or side by side with other domains' folders. I hope that makes sense.
