What are your techniques for helping a youtube video go viral?

Right now mine are making it as KW descriptive as possible, spying on other top videos and their tags...

I often wonder about that, I'd imagine the normal person doesn't recognize the value of tags.

You have the major part done but you also need to get some backlinks to your video from friends and family bookmarking and/or writing comments and subscribing.

Create a video blog with your Youtube videos on there, and encourage your blog readers to click back to your Youtube channel to get more views... and tell people that they are able to use your video on their website. Make sure your website URL is located at the bottom of each video.

if you want your video to go viral all you have to do is make a good quality video. And then make sure you won't piss people and it should be something unique and fresh.

Videos that can make viewers laugh, cry, entertain, disagree with, smile, keep up with current affairs or learn something from, have a good chance of going viral.

You cant tag or add backlinks to a crappy video and think its going to go viral

True. And what's good about people liking or subscribing to your page [because your videos have been entertaining] is that you get very natural links from across the network.

A lot of its all about luck as well. If there was a special guaranteed technique, then everyone would use it and everything would be viral :p

Tags are the best way to go viral. As long as they're not too far from the video, it's ok. I've heard of YouTube warning people and banning people for using inappropriate categories and tags, to get something viral or to promote something.

Add your video's YouTube URL to the end of your description.

    Why?

Cause autoblogs are going to pick it up so it's a cool way to get more backlinks

Keywords is big but you also need the ability for people to spread your videos for you. One of my youtube profiles has almost crossed the 1,000,000 video views benchmark, it has about 10,000 more views to go.

Here is the channel if you want to see - http://www.youtube.com/user/aceupsleeve3/videos

I found the key was looking at videos that existed and making ones in categories not yet used. For example, I made several MMA videos but instead of doing ones about knockouts or fights which EVERYONE does. I picked categories no one had ever used (insults, threats, etc...) and as a result they spread like wildfire.

Viral videos are a combination of uniqueness, humor or controversy, and timing. It takes practice but when you figure it out it's insane.

When doing Youtube marketing, I would NOT concentrate on making your video go viral. You really cannot CREATE a viral video.... it only happens to you, and in my experience - when you least expect it. For every video that actually does go viral, there are thousands and thousands of attempts at "creating" one. Those are pretty horrible odds.

Viral videos can ONLY be viral when there is something so compelling about them that a viewer VOLUNTARILY shares it with someone else. It has nothing to do with keywords, descriptions, auto-view or viral-friends programs, or any other SEO tactic - black or white. That is more related to distribution - and forcing your viewers to pass it on, or manipulating views does NOT make a viral video.

Start thinking from the other end of it all. What does your viewer need to know or need solved? Do some keyword research and find some questions related to that keyword that have no Youtube videos on the first page of results. Even if there are only 400 searches a month on that term if you keep putting out videos all around issues related to your keywords, you will start building a cumulative effect and can easily OWN that niche. Let me tell you, it is MUCH more profitable to own a niche with video saturation than it is to "stumble" on a viral video.

Make sure your videos offer some real value, have a call-to-action, and are properly branded. Start with a "building" mentality rather than digging for gold trying to make a viral video, cause it ain't gonna happen anyway. In the end, you may just end up with a long term business that will make you way more money than a viral video.

        quoted for emphasis.

forget about making a viral video, you cant control it. just focus on giving value to people who are looking for the value you are providing (good keyword research and solid tags).

videos can go viral if you hit the novelty/entertainment factor. youre not going to entertain people into buying (for the most part). value is practical. sure theres a way to blend entertainment with value and make the video have the novelty factor but then they focus on the novelty instead of the value or practicality and you detract form the focus of the video: content and the offer.

I like to buy video views and likes. The likes really help the video go viral. This isn't the best way though since it's not voluntary likes so it doesn't really mean much, but it still helps get the video out there.

The video niche/keywords are also HUGE factors in how many views/replies you get.

    Hi sc21287,

Got these tips from Ryan Deiss...

What I do is make sure I have my main keyword:

    - In the title
    - First in the description (before the URL)
    - In the tags

I also copy and paste my title into the description. It's fast and easy and it probably helps.

      Thank you Carl.

Yes you guys are true when it comes to putting out quality content.

The actual angle I'm going for is slightly different than that. I guess you can say it's quality content, but no teaching.

Ok but the people who own the video still have to approve your video response. So this isn't such a very good tip.

lol I shared a video from my paid course for free and instead of saying thanks, im going to try that out and implement that, I get a critique on the technique. don't get me wrong, im not looking for praise. but, you also dont seem to be looking for results. if you were, you'd apply it.

for your information, most videos are set to "auto-approve" video responses. i can usually use my video as a response video for 7 out of the top 10 listings on youtube. if it's a direct competitor, obviously they may not approve. however, most people do. it's actually a mutual backlink because it shows what your video was a response to.

in any case, hope you actually try it and get results with it instead of finding reasons why its not a good tip.

      1. Most of the videos have 'Allow video responses with approval only' option enabled, so in this case your method is useless
2.Others have video responses blocked which makes your method useless again
3.Ones that have 'allow all video responses' option enabled:
a)They have tons of traffic and tons of people posting video responses, so your video response ends up buried within minutes which makes your method useless
      b)They have low traffic
4.Any video you upload can be a response to only one video, as soon a you post it as a response to another video it will be removed from the first one as a response. - this makes your method time consuming.

Maybe next time you make a real WSO...
