I'm ready to launch my first info product and wondering what my next best steps are...

Hi there,

I just created my first info product e-course (which includes video) and wondering where to go from here. My goal is to build one site which will offer several e-courses and products in the same niche and of course I want to be able to capture emails from the home page to build my list.

I bought a domain name and hosting account and have been playing around with the web site builder tools C4Mall and Weebly but I don't like the templates and it doesn't look like the free Weebly has the option to build a list anyway. I don't know html/programming but would like to be able to build the website myself if at all possible. I do know exactly what I'd like it to look like and found a Wordpress template that is very similar except for the colors so I'm wondering if I need to take the time to learn how to customize it.

My question for everyone is...if you were sitting in my chair, where would you go from here? What is the fastest, smartest, most economical route to launch this site?

Thanks in advance for your time!

You're going to need a salespage to
persuade your visitors to swap their
hard earned cash for your products.

If you don't know how to code or
    whatever, may be worth installing
Wordpress on your site. I'm pretty
sure there are plugins that will let
you turn one or more pages on the
site into squeeze or salespages, but
I can't for the life of me remember
    any of the names.

Wordpress makes a lot of the stuff
you'll want to do pretty simple, which
    is why I'm suggesting it.

What would I do, right now, today,
    if I were you?

I'd get a squeeze page in place, and
    start sending traffic.

    Why?

Because that will give you an idea
what kind of demand there is in your
market, and it will also let you start
    capturing subscribers whilst working
on getting the other stuff ready.

    Make sense?

Thanks David. Yes, that does make sense. I'm assuming that the product needs to be in place on the site and ready to download as soon as they complete the squeeze page or is that a different type of page?

Yes, you'll want to get them access to their
download as soon as possible. People have
short memories, and if they don't get it right
away they'll likely forget they ever joined your
list, which isn't exactly the best way to go
about building a relationship with them, you
        know?

The common ways of doing this are to direct
them to a download page as soon as they've
confirmed their subscription, and to also send
them a download link via email.

        Make sense?

Oh and KenJ is right - Wordpress or static site
will be fine, you just want something that works.
I just suggested Wordpress because it's easy
        to work with.

He's also right about not getting bogged down
with the detail. Imagine yourself as a general,
orchestrating the movements on the battlefield,
instead of being a footsoldier, carrying out the
        day to day fighting.

From my own past experience, learn to build nice decent Wordpress site yourself first or atleast try to. Watch some videos on YouTube on it, it's not too hard after you've been playing around with it for a little bit.
I like and agree with what kenj said about outsourcing it, the problem I ran into was I didn't know what to tell the Outsourcer to do, so I got back a site that didn't do anything that I wanted it to do. Then I had to either re-hire or pay someone else to make it the way I wanted it to function on the 2nd go-round.
Take some time and do it right, especially if you planning on making your site a hub of many different products in your niche.

And I definitely agree with travlinguy about building a community, it will pay off big if you stick with it.

LH Force, great idea on watching the videos. That will help me to at least be able to speak intelligently.

Ok, so one more question for everyone...if I were to purchase Optimizepress, would I still need to customize a Wordpress template for the look and feel I'm after or does OP override everything and use it's own design with all those bells and whistles it offers.

Yes, you can fully customize Optimizepress but it does have quite a learning curve to it for being a WordPress theme, but it is worth the investment in time if you have the time to invest in learning it, otherwise you can simply outsource it as there are other Warriors right here that specialize in OptimizePress.

I am just now setting up an e-course using this theme and using a 20-page teaser report in exchange for email subscriptions, which seems to be working great (just started testing this).

Once you learn the theme, it is very powerful and it does work great. The toughest part for me was figuring out all of the different sales templates and how to make them work, but now that I am figuring them out, it is really awesome and is perfect for what you are trying to do as well.

            Hope this helps...Leah

Tenzho, good point. So, with the right templates and plugins, am I correct in assuming that Wordpress can be used to build the whole site?

Yes that is correct. Just google search "Free Wordpress Sales page theme" and download it.

A sales page must not have side bars and ads to promote leaving your site.

You should use wordpress as it is very customisable. You can hire someone from fiverr to save time.

Start with a blog and some great informative, intelligent posts with lots of value. Contact other people in your market and invite them to post on your blog and you do the same for them. Get out into your market and circulate, let it be known that you'ra an authority on your topic.

Build friendships and alliances. Put up a section for articles and post original stuff that will drive traffic to your site. Do link exchanges with other sites like yours.

In other words, build a community around your market and sales will eventually come very naturally. It's all about providing massive value for your community.

I think I would go to Odesk or Elance and get someone to build the whole thing for you. You could be up and running by next weekend by outsourcing the website.

Standard html or wordpress platform doesnt really matter as long as it does the job. (Kenj ducks to avoid wordpress devotees throwing things)

You want to be marshalling the components of your new business rather than getting bogged down in the detail.

I think the easiest way is to launch it as a WSO, since it is easier to create a sales page, you can do it even yourself, also you can get fast cash with a WSO, and you don't have to worry about traffic or creating an affiliate program, I think the next step would be to create a sales page then registering yourself in WSO pro and have your product reviewed by the moderators of the warrior forum!

Wordpress can be turned into a salespage too, not just a blog. After you got your Salespage and graphic ready, you can start recruiting affiliates to help you promote your product at Clickbank. Or pay for a listing in the warrior forum JV threads.

Then get a plugin to build a list for your salespage. It is something like when they click close, a pop out stopping them to do so and offering a free report in exchange for email address.

    To your success 2012,
    Tenzho

You should put it up for sale on Amazon Kindle. Also, list it on Mobipocket, and on "Smashwords" hosted by the Sony Ebook Reader company. And then of course... sell it on your own website. Your website doesn't have to be technical. I'm thinking you can get the job done with a sales letter style website. You will also want to set up a squeeze page also to capture email subscribers so that you can follow up on them on a recurring basis.

    Hi there

If you offer it as a WSO make sure you offer a few review copies, get people seeing your work and get some reviews, once you have a few great reviews then put your price on it, this will increase sales by having reviews on there.

Once you have a few sales under your belt then re-submit your WSO with reviews on your sales page and through WSO+ make it available to be hopefully chosen as WSO of the day.

You could then contact your buyers and ask for a video testimonial, this all to great marketing content because people always like to see that someone else has walked the walk first, people are like sheep, if they see something of great value that you are offering, and they can see other people are benefiting from what you have to offer, then your conversion rate will only get better.

So in a nutshell look to get testimonials and great reviews early on in various areas and use them, then this in turn gives you almost a loud haler if you like to get your product heard because you shouting on your own will not get heard above all the white noise, so get people shouting with you ok.

    All the best
    Steven

Set up a sales page, promote the hell out of it using natural SEO methods, once you're indexed and got some rankings, start getting into blackhat SEO and disperse your links. Don't go for cheap backlinking, but don't go for expensive manual submission either, go for the cheap but reliable option.
