I'm going to start an eCommerce website for selling posters/gift cards/custom artwork etc.... It'll be made on Wordpress.

I'm going on 14 and can't manage it all by myself, and have been told numerous times that it would help if I have a partner or two in my venture.

I would be hiring warrior only (This is not a recruitment thread!).

Who would I need to manage the business?

I was thinking get 2 extra people.

I was thinking- A funds manager who deals with profit, handling money etc...
And someone who deals with customer support and handles shipping...

What do you think?

Thanks.
  • It sounds like you have your head screwed on and I'm sure you are going to be a great success.
Unfortunately I am busy with my own projects, but I'm sure you will well if you stay focused and execute your plan.

Why can't you do it yourself at this point? When starting a business, you want to keep all your costs as low as possible.

As money comes in, then you will have a better idea of who you need and how much you can afford to spend on them.

Partners are great, but they do add a level of complexity to business. Start small and streamlined, then think about a partner as you grow.

      Thanks for the reply Jeff.

I'd be paying them commissions of what I make. However you right, at the start I'll go solo. Then I'll probably bring in a couple of partners when more customers start to arrive.

For a start manage it yourself and as you become more profitable you can outsource certain tasks.

    1) A webmaster who understands marketing and who has great communication skills.
    2) A customer service ninja who can make your buyers happier than pigs in slop and get them to post reviews on your site.

      Thanks.

For the meantime anyway, I'm going to be dealing with the customer support myself. I know a bit about marketing myself too as well.

I will probably hire a webmaster though who can deal with customer support and SEO eventually though.

As soon as you have sufficient funds/traffic coming to ur site, you can hire people.
You can also ask for virtual employees on elance and freelancer.
there are tons of people from India and Philippines who work for around $2-5 per hour to manage your website and all kinds of work..
You can hire them to do link building as well as post comments/reviews..

      Be patient, young Padawan.

As most have said, do it yourself until it makes sense to bring in others. You will learn a lot, and if your plan is to pay by way of revenue sharing, the time it takes to really get going might sap their interest.

    Thanks.

That's a good idea about the freelancing. I could hire someone from oDesk or somewhere like elance.

I also might get someone from Fiverr to review it.
