Young Internet Marketer needs help!

Hey guys,

I have been wanting to begin Internet Marketing for a while now, however, with the lack of skills required, I have never been able to start off. I have no knowledge in website coding, nor do I have knowledge in installing WP themes. What I do have, however, is around $200 to help me get started. Could someone please offer me a few tips to help me get on my way on the Internet Marketing road.

Thanks in advance!

P.S I am only 16.

Start reading around and start learning some skills. Learning how to setup and use Wordpress is an absolute must nowadays and would probably be a good place to start. Once you are familiar with that you can start building all types of websites and using all types of tools.

Remember, we all had no skills at one time or another. I learnt everything I know by just getting my hands dirty and doing things. It's the quickest way.

thanks for the advice Will. I will search up on how to install WP themes in a bit. A thing that keeps me thinking: Market Affiliates-How do people manage to get that much money off affiliating? Are there really that many people in the world to purchase that item?

Don't get too far ahead of yourself. Before you worry about how much money you are likely to earn you need to equip yourself with some skills. Crawl before you start trying to walk.

There are a ton of free Wordpress tutorial videos around but if I were you, I would probably invest in a set of Wordpress tutorial videos all done by the same person so you can be sure you are learning everything there is to know.

A good and inexpensive one can be found here:
    http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...al-videos.html

Yes, there is a ton of money to be made in affiliate marketing as with a lot of other things as well. Keep in mind though that it's usually only about 20% of affiliates earning 80% of the money. So as I said you need to get some skills behind you before you can expect to make any money.

A lot of the top earning affiliates are people who have been doing it for years and years.

      Hi Gavori,

My advice is to hold on to your money for now, and allow yourself plenty of time to learn and implement new skills.

As with all things in life, there is going to be a learning curve, and perhaps a few setbacks, before you succeed. Accepting this up-front will help you to push through when the going gets tough.

      Next:

      1) Spend time studying the forum threads here. Learn who to listen to, and who not to (WillR is one of the good guys, btw ) All the information you need is available here for free, and if anyone tries to steer you in the wrong direction, others will [usually] speak up and set them/you straight.

      2) Formulate your very own plan, based on your personal strengths and weaknesses. Just because something works for someone else, that doesn't mean that it will [necessarily] work for you. Tweak everything to make it your own, and focus on one method only, until completion.

This is key because, in most cases, if you don't complete anything then you won't get paid - regardless of how much work you have put into it!

      3) Break your plan down into the smallest possible steps, and list them so that you can (for example) complete one step each day. Put the list where you can see it, and refer to/tweak it regularly, as you progress.

      4) Once you have your steps laid out, you will be able to see clearly where money needs to be spent. Give everything a go first, but if there is something that you can't do, or don't enjoy, then pay someone else to do it (outsource). Spending time on things that you hate will only kill your enthusiasm, and slow your progress.

For free tutorials, always search youtube first, using the keyword 'tutorial' plus (for example) 'wordpress'.

Most importantly - Keep It Simple!

It is going to be difficult at times, but it doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes the simple ideas work the best.

      Hope this helps!

      Max.

You're 16 and that's a HUGE plus for you; you're probably quicker at learning stuff than most 40-60 year old folk so use that to your advantage.

Here's what you need to learn:

    1. Learn about niches - There are different niches on the internet, ranging from video games to wellness etc...find one you're passionate about and do some keyword research.

    2. Learn how to install WP...it's really not hard at all. Just point your mouse and click

    3. Learn about list building.

    4. Decide if you want to create your own products or promote someone else's as an affiliate (affiliate marketing).

Now, the stuff I put in bold are the terms you can search for on this forum. Hold on to your $200 until you're ready to take action then

    i. buy a domain name
    ii. pay for hosting
iii. pay for an autoresponder (that's for your list).

I've given you just the bare basics. Use the search at the top right hand corner of this forum...you should find most of what you're looking for.

Don't be afraid to contact other warriors (PM or Skype) and ask for advice. Some will reply, some will not. Either way, make sure you read a lot of that warrior's posts and threads before contacting them; so that you know if it's someone you should trust.

I hope this helps a bit.

    Good luck.

    Sharon

P.S. PM me if I can help you in any way.

I love to see young people getting involved in building businesses!
People your age are in a way in a better position that older folks.
You have the freedom to take things slow, learn as much as possible, and build a solid business that could fund your expenses.
I suggest that you spend as much time learning as you can. In the meantime, you can learn some skills and offer your services to make some extra bucks. You can offer these services on another site..

Stay motivated, stick to learning as much as you can, and most importantly... don't forget that you are a kid! Don't get addicted to making money! Balance your life with learning, doing your homework...

What I think is the essential part of this business is to know
about coding - at least the basics,
about graphics - at least how to make a simple image,
about videos - how to edit them and record them,
about marketing - since we all market to our customers,
about different methods in IM - to choose the best match for you,
about sales funnels - and how it all works
    about ....

I would suggest you to spend about 4 hours on one topic searching YouTube, Google and WF. After that you should have a pretty good understanding of, for example, how to set up a wordpress site.

Learn as much as you can right now. And once you feel like knowing enough to try and test, begin taking action.

I can't agree with this list of essentials.

Coders, graphics, video .. all can be outsourced rather cheap.

Now agreed .. it is a good thing to understand WP but that is very simple and there are some great site builders with WYSIWYG editors so you could actually bypass WP if you wanted.

Learn how to get traffic. Learn what makes people tick. Learn how to sell stuff to people. Internet marketers .. market .. they sell stuff. The tech stuff is great to know .. I wish I knew more myself but ...

Unless you plan to make money with services, most of the tech stuff can be afforded by the person who can drive traffic and sell to that traffic.

I agree with Troy in that you don't really need to learn the technical aspects because that is not where the money is.

The tech people work for the marketers, so you want to learn about driving traffic and setting up sales funnels that convert (unless you plan to sell services).

You could spend 6 months straight learning how to design a website, and many people do make this mistake.

If you look around you should be able to find someone who can set up a nice looking blog for you for less than $50 (or even less).

Learning HTML and PHP code is optional for a internet marketer, but learning about driving traffic and converting that traffic is mandatory.

Concentrate on the important stuff in my opinion.

I'm not that much older than you but I started dabbling with IM when I was 14 and you are probably going to want to give up but heres what I told myself whenever I felt like doing so:

In 5 years all my friends will just be finding decent jobs and finishing college. What will I be doing? I could be a millionaire.

Stop thinking about making money today or tomorrow. Look at this in the big picture. Offer people undeniable value and the money soon starts rolling in.

I think there's a lot of good advice for you here so far. I would say research, research, research is key! You need to plug yourself into a system that works. One thing about the internet is that you can see what thousands of others are doing and do the same. It just takes some time researching what it is that everyone is doing. I was once in your shoes and have spent years using trial and error to find what works. Some things have made a lot, and some have cost me money with no return. It's definitely a process. Check out my signature, as it may be something you're interested in. An simple system with ton's of support from successful people.

Perhaps your first order of business (and expense) is to find a better internet plan, with increased download limits and speed. I assume you are living with your parents, so when you find a good plan, maybe offer them the extra 5 - 10 bucks a month to change over? Who knows, maybe you can even find them a better phone/internet bundle, so that it is a win-win solution.

It cost me an extra 5 bucks a month to get three times the download speed, and 20 times the download limit of what I previously had. Having a solid internet connection is pretty much essential in this game.

You are definitely in the right place! When I first got started in Internet Marketing I stumbled upon this forum. It completely changed the way I look at the world. Check out my post about how I got started.

Knowing your way around Wordpress is a great skill and a perfect one to start with! Being 16 years old gives you a head start!

Be sure to not suffer from INFORMATION OVERLOAD! A lot of young/new IMers spend so much time reading up on other peoples methods that they forget to TAKE ACTION! That is the best advice I can give, get a plan, and then IMPLEMENT IT!

    Good luck!

You should go to Blogger.com, set up a free blog, throw up Adsense on it, throw Clickbank products on it, post everyday, do some blog marketing, submit it to the blog directories, submit your blog's RSS feed to the RSS directories, and continue to get massive amounts of targeted traffic to your blog.

    Cost: $0.

  • I've started out with blogspots. It's easier than WP and you can still make something decent [also noob, started 1-2 months ago]. If you have a good idea, see if the idea already exists.. If the idea doesn't exist, or if it is crap, go for it. Look for SEO tools and techniques and attempt to get the idea on #1 on google. Try to implement amazon affiliate and have a good adservice.

5000 daily visitors [= quite much], but you will have a stable income without investing too much. From that point you can expand the amount of sites you have. Then add adwords and affiliate stuff and you're good to go.

Just keep making quality sites, make sure they rank high on google, make sure your site isn't a loss [if you start out with free hosting, move them to payed hosting as soon as you know the site will survive on its own] and try to implement all the possible things that can get the $$$.

Just my opinion, and like I said, I'm quite noob.

Okay, I spoke to a friend and what he did was buy some social exchange script from a site, and started his own social exchange site. then after a while he used his site to direct sales and resell that script for 50$+ profit. apparently he gets $50/day from doing this. is this possible? haha. Im thinking of doing it, but I dont want to steal his ideas :S
