Is this considered a new or old domain?

Before I get backlinks for my website it's been said not to use them on a relatively new site. Mine was purchased in Jan 2012. However I realized this domain existed in 2009 and probably was expired and the owner didn't renew it.

Would this domain be considered a old domain or a new one?

I checked the background and seems like the previous owner didn't do much (backlinks wise)

    If it expired in 2009 it would now be considered new (from the date that Google indexes the site).

    You can still build BL's for a new site, just don't go crazy by blasting lots of links direct to the site.

    Just build a steady amount each day.

    It will be a new domain as it expired and the original owner didnt renewes it.

    Anyways, just focus on giving good quality product/services/information/reviews and build a few backlinks, you will surely succeed.

    But when you mention steady amount, do you have a rough gauge?

    I'm planning on implementing both quality and quantity banklinking strategies. I have someone help me do a backlink pyramid with approximately 300-400 direct backlinks to my site. And there will be additional backlinks to the backlinks (pyramid) but i don't think how many of that will be much of an issue right?

    It's a new domain, and don't worry about it. As long as you don't 50 backlinks at the same time you will be ok.

    If you purchase 250 backlinks have them trickle into your site over say a month that way google wont get upset.

    50-250? A lot lesser than I originally expected.

    I was expecting numbers to be like 10k backlinks before it gets penalized.
