Depends on the niche really in my opinion. For me, JV's don't work well at all with the hip hop niche... whereas it may work great with making money online or IM. Forums for me work okay but may work great for other niches. You also have paid ads that work better for me but may not for others. I think it boils down to the niche. In short though, you have:

- Paid Per Click Traffic
- Forum Posting (with your signature having a link to your site.. don't make it spammy)
- Commenting on Blogs (with your URL listed.. hope for moderators to approve)
- JV Deals
- Tweeting to your followers (if you have a twitter account of followers)
- Facebook posts and group posts to your site URL
- Ad Swaps
- Solo Ads
- Banner Ads
- Craigslist / Backpage / USFreeads (may work okay or great for you, may not)
- SEO organic traffic (takes time to build but worth it in the long run)
- Fiverr gigs of Twitter Blasts to people

Those are some off the top of my head that will help build traffic. Again, depends though on your niche in my opinion Hope this helps.

then You can post content on digg/stumbleupon. If you dont get buried, you can actually get upto 5000-10000 visitors to ur website!!

Like a couple have already mentioned, SEO (search engine optimization) is the best thing to do if you are looking for free (organic) traffic. This can be broken down into two categories:

-Onsite SEO
-Offsite SEO

Onsite SEO refers to the content and tags of your website. there are plenty of tips found on this forum and in the WSOs on this subject

Offsite SEO refers to the backlinks to your website. You can build backlinks by posting articles to the big article sites, creating a youtube video, social bookmarking, online press releases, or just pay someone to do it for you.

I'm afraid free traffic doesn't exist. But I like social media and search engine.

SEO is the only long term strategy in my opinion. Probably not the news you wanted to hear but SEO is not a quick strategy and it can feel like you're wasting your time. SEO is a art and it's a case of reading lots of articles to come up with a plan that will work for you. If you're in a particular niche then my advice would be to start looking for web directories based on that niche and get your site listed in them before looking at link building in more detail.

I reposted this from another conversation but it applies here too. This what is working for me right now.

Simple. Google your niche. Go to the top ten sites that come up on search results. Go into each website and contact each website owner and ask to place a banner ad "above the fold" on their site. Google another keyword and do the same. Do about 10 keywords related to your niche. and go to 10 websites on each. That will massively bring traffic to your money site.

As far as PPC goes, Facebook, Myspace (yes myspace) and Yahoo Classifieds are performing well for me now. Best ROI. You can target your niche more easily and its not over saturated yet so you can still make your dent in your market.

Also make sure you are using the 3 Key Concepts which will determine if you will succeed online or fail in todays economy.

Never rely on google for all your traffic. Your best form of targeted and quick traffic would be to buy targeted advertisements in related ezines, otherwise called soloads. If you like, you can also build content over time and SEO for additional search engine traffic.

You have to check at the strategies of the competitors and its also depend on your niche.
