Squidoo - How to remove competition

by Michael Lee 19 replies
Hi Warriors,

To anyone who's doing squidoo, I'd like to ask if there's any way to remove the "Explore Related Pages" which automatically comes up below the Intro.

These "Related Pages" are likely to be competitors promoting the same types of products, so it'll minimize competition if they're removed.

Thanks,
Michael

    Hi Michael,

Click on the edit button for "Introduction, Contents & Discovery Tool". Go to the discovery tool and turn it off. I think that is what links to all those related pages.

Thanks, Curtis. You're a big help.

Arthur, what does "unmax your lens" mean?

Curtis is correct. At the top of your introductory module are 2 tabs. Click on each and you will find buttons to turn on or off. One is for Content (or table of contents), the other is for the "Explore Related Pages".

There's a lot of discussion as to turn on or off your Explore related pages button. On one hand, it is competition, on the other it is more backlinks.

I personally keep mine turned off, but I do turn on the contents button.

No problem Michael, glad to help.

As for maxed and unmaxed lenses, check the squidoo faq (scroll to #34):

I have no idea what they meant by it which is why I can't tell you here...lol.

OR you can find a way to maximize this for yourself by using long titles broken by pipes like...

Keyword | Keyword Facts | Keyword Warnings

or whatever series of phrases that would pull clicks.

When you have them showing on your page, yours are showing on other peoples pages and doing the above can get you more attention than a basic title and more people may click through to yours.

Or perhaps try this: Create several lenses for the same niche, with similar titles - this might mean that your own lenses appear in the "related lenses" section.

This is what I do, I create 3 or 4 lenses based around different keywords for the niche. Then I use that 'explore related lenses' section for my own. It had the option where you can add 3 lenses of your choice, so you add your own lenses there.

You don't need to unmax to remove that - third tab in the introduction module turns it off. but you can also fill up 3 of those spots with your own lenses if you want to. I prefer them off, too.

I actually like the 'Explore Related Lens' feature, and I have it enabled on most of my lenses. This tool get me more links to my lenses that it does from my lens, and so it is valuable from an SEO perspective.

However, if you don't like seeing competitor's lenses there, you can turn it off. Just be sure to join relevant groups, and link any similar lenses of your own together.

I agree with this. I was reading somewhere that the porn industry created almost every cutting edge traffic tactic there is, although of course they definitely go beyond reasonable. This same source pointed out that one of their most successful tactics starting from the early days of the internet has always been linking between competitors and thus increasing their own traffic.

      Hi Bob:
Bring your lens up. At the top right log in.

Once you have logged in, you'll see and orange box on the right side With a search box on it. Right below that click on "edit this page"

At the top of your page right below the title, you'll see the module entitled; Introduction, Contents & Discovery Tool...click edit

At the top you'll see 3 tabs:
Intro text, table of contents, and discovery tool

Click on the discovery tool tab

There you'll find the on/off buttons for that feature. Click the off button save and then hit publish at the top of the page and you'll be good to go.

Forgot to mention if you turn on the contents tab, you'll have links to all the posts on your lens automatically.

I love Squidoo. My 10k matrix one is in 2nd position on Google at the moment. Search 10k matrix, and check it out. That is a great thing, when you are anywhere on the front page. Gets a lot of traffic through your lens.

Rate and comment me if you would.

    Thanks,

I prefer it on... What I do is that I go and look up the related lenses and take the ones with the highest lensranks, and basically just copy their tags. If your lens is closely related there's a good chance you'll appear on their "explore related pages".
If you get there on a popular lens, that alone can get you tons of traffic.
