First ebook... How should I take it to market?

Hello Warriorforum,

I am wet behind the ears and posting this may be a no-no without the proper research, but I wanted to throw it up anyway while I started digging into the threads here.

I recently finished a "how to" ebook and was looking for ways to market it. At this point, I'm leaning toward Clickbank but admitedly, I haven't done a ton of research.

I'm looking for any advice, tips, pitfalls, etc. that anyone is willing to share with me. If you had just written your first ebook and knew what you know how, how would you take it to market?

Thanks for your time. I'm sure you guys get a ton of newbie questions like this, so I apologize. I'm passionate about a lot of things and writing about them seems to be where I want to focus.

Before you do anything else you have to be 100% honest with yourself.

The first question and most important:

Is there a market for your ebook?

I can write a book on Eskimo Xbox Repair...but how many Eskimos have Xboxes? Or electricity for that matter?

So...can the book sell? Find this out first before you invest any more work in distributing, marketing, etc. What's the fastest way to find out? Paid traffic.

Get your top keywords for the ebook. These are keywords that people will use to search out the solution.

Put the book up for sale on a salespage using a simple Paypal button and thank you page.

Run an ad on Google Adwords. Depending on the keywords and cost involved, invest between $50 and $100 in traffic to the ebook.

Count the sales. Are there any? We're not looking for profitability...we're looking for interest in purchasing the book.

If you have sales...congratulations. Now you can spend your time knowing that there is a market and sales to be made.

Next steps depend on you and the subject matter of your book. You can keep selling through the site you created or move to Amazon Kindle/Createspace publishing.

You can also move to Clickbank for a simple Affiliate program.

  • Depends primarily on your niche. A few suggestions, and some of these methods are free, while some are paid campaigns:

    1. Could a lot of Facebook members be interested in purchasing the ebook for the benefits they can gain from it? If so, then get Facebook PPC coupon codes to get free Facebook PPC advertising credits...

    2. Would you be better off going with Google PPC campaigns, since most of your target audiences prepared to purchase an ebook like yours prefer to Google relevant topics/keywords to gain more info so as to make an informed buying decision? If so, then buy a cheap domain and register a cheap hosting account from a company offering free Google Adwords credits with their hosting account -- You can get $75 Adwords credits by purchasing a $2 domain and registering a $10/month hosting account, so that's $63 of free Adwords credits, on top of your new domain and hosting account!

    3. Offer content to owners of contextually relevant, heavily trafficked sites and blogs with top ranking keywords in Google for your target keywords, in exchange for brand and product name exposure and links pointing to your sales pages or desired pages...

    4. Solo ads. Find solo ad providers with active mailing list subscribers interested in the micro niches and topics covered by the content of your ebook...

    5. Offer your ebook with a high affiliate sales commission, say 65 to 80%. This way, you get others promoting your ebook. They will drive buyer traffic to your pages, so you can populate your mailing lists with buyer subscribers and get sales...

    Hope this helps...

Perhaps you could mention the area in which you plan to write the eBook? Then it is easier to brain storm launch strategies...

First... get it up and get it selling. You can start with Paypal and test the sales letter (to see how it's converting) or go with someone like Clickbank. Cb is especially good if there are rival vendors (or complementary vendors) you can work with.

Another option is someone like JVzoo since you can save list it for free (maybe to start with) and pay a cut of the sale.

I'd try to strike up a relationship with blog owners in your niche and see if they're interested in doing anything. Especially the guys with email lists. It's easy to find the active guys because they have recent posts.

It's also worth communicating with your buyers. Some of them may have they're own blogs based on your niche or interested in creating one (which opens up a whole other world of opportunity - if they need your help or recommendation on how to do it).

I'd guess there are at least 500 threads on this very topic. Try using the search feature and within a couple of hours you'll have more suggestions than you could accomplish in a lifetime. Good luck.

I'm new to this also. I got a eBook that I'm ready to release that involves saving money for costly PC tune ups.

Social media is the way foward. Build relationships with fanpage owners and you will be drowning in sales.

Related websites in your niche, run ads with them. Especially the ones who aren't already monetized. I have seen some sites with zero monetization methods on the first page of google on medium level keyword competition. Safe to say I cashed in there.

Other than that, forums, solo ads, to your list.

    The traffic sources are endless.

So far, I'm leaning towards Clickbank, as it seems pretty hands free. I need to jump right in and make the mistakes as I go or I will suffer from analysis paralysis.

All the suggestions here are just second nature to you guys, but I need to get some time logged under my belt with research to figure that stuff out... maybe for my next few books.

As for now, I want to get my product up and running and see how it does. Again, I appreciate the help and spent a lot of time researching everyone's advice last night and this morning. If anyone has any tips about clickbank, I'm all ears.

I might try google adwords too, but I have to figure out about 100 different things first. So that said, while clickbank is going and I'm learning the ropes there, I'll keep researching adwords and how that all works and hopefully try that avenue next.
