Just realized my website could potentially be a bad name...

I just created http://askcruisers.com... realized it's ok on paper, but if you told someone through word of mouth, it could potentially be bad.

Originally, I was going to ask a different question about this site. How long does it take for a site (askcruisers.com) to get indexed? I created it yesterday and submitted xml sitemap to google. It's been about 20 hours now at least, registered the domain 2 days ago, not showing up at all on google.

You would only get penalized (flagged as adult only content) if your domain was directly related to porn.

I have worked for the Google manual review panel, it works like this let's say your site was called creampiedotcom. That is a direct reference to pornographic content in that there are no natural synonyms, you can be fairly certain the person who searches that wants porn so adult content would show.

But in the case of spitroast.com this has direct relevance to the non porn world too in that it is a cooking style so if someone typed that in, Google would play it safe and provide non-adult material.

It's the same with penis (anatomy) sexy (common usage) and even doggy style (references to Snoop et al).

    You don't need to worry

As for your second question - it takes generally a couple days to get indexed, some times a little longer (week-ish) or shorter (day or so).

LOL! Just as disappointed as when I went to creampiedotcom and saw that it wasn't a bakery website for a cake design I'm looking for. LOL!

I think I could make the front page of Reddit with this.

The word of mouth side would only be a problem if the speaker has a problem in enunciation. If they enunciate, it won't be a problem.

Wait... What percentage of Americans enunciate properly?

(Sadly what percentage of Americans with 2 years or less of college actually know what enunciation is?)

Word of the day: enunciate (verb) - 1. to express or state clearly; 2. to pronounce words clearly so that they can be easily understood

haha thanks for your posts guys. I am relieved tho that it wont get penalized by google. I do have another question. Since my site is mostly question based, each post will only have around 30 words. Will google penalize this?

Best way to get indexed fast is go to ismysiteindexed.com and enter your domain. Click the link for Step 2. Copy the url in your search bar and head over to pingomatic.com and ping that url. Should be indexed within 24 hours normally.

You won't get penalised for 30 words posts but on the same token you might not get much credit.

You need deeper, unique content than a 30 word post so try grouping a bunch of these Q&A's together in a relevant section.........More food for google means more google love

May be it will someday go viral as part of those lists of "funny domain names". That's how I first heard of Pen Island (penisland.net)

LOL, if you hadn't separated this domain name I would have never guessed it was pen island and not the other way around.

Our minds are inclined to think of the dirtiest meaning first, then the innocent one second (if at all) :p

Small world. I'm in Raleigh as well. I definitely see what you mean about saying the name out loud to someone. You shouldn't have any issues as far as searches go.

Expect to wait a day or so, a few at the most to get indexed.

I remember using that them on your site before. It looks a bit different though. Did you have it modified?

I wouldn't worry about the confusing, just focus on developing the site.

Most registrars have a domain suggestion tool based on keyword/s

True, and I've gotten some good domains from this as well. One suggestion though, make sure you're logged in while searching. 9 times out of 10 it will get snatched up...GoDaddy has been known for this.

Over analyzing. If there is no porn on your site, then Google aren't going to treat it as if it was a website filled with pornographic content.

Ha that is funny although it took me a few seconds to realise!! If it is new then just get another and move on, though this being said n everyone is going to notice it. If you intent for it to be big and get a reputation the definitely change it.

To the OP: If you're really worried about how the domain will sound verbally, you could buy ask-cruisers.com as well - So people can say the hyphen when telling others about it. And you can also redirect your existing domain to the one with the hyphen, in case people forget to type the hyphen.

Relax, have a few beers, then a few more and believe me - the domain name suggestions will flood your brain - just make sure to write the best ones down and buy them quickly.

It's thinking outside of the box with more than just a hint of pleasure and satisfaction.

In the morning, simply remember that you bought them!

      Just my thoughts,

      Jeff.
