It's IM Conference Season...Are You Going? Which Are Best?

Hey,

I've decided to add at least one IM conference to my travel schedule this year. I really love getting to know people in person... in the way I suspect only happens when you're face to face. As much as I love being able to have friends all over the world, I've never really "met" in person, having attended lots of conferences in other industries, the networking and contacts to be made are usually outstanding.

There seem to be a few IM related conference choices and events around the country. I have a tentative plane reservation made, but I thought I'd ask first:

Which IM conferences do you recommend? Which are you planning to attend? Why?

If you're not going, why not? What are you doing to grow your network, instead?

Thanks,

Nice thread. I would like to find out about these conferences as well. Although I don't think all of them have been announced yet.

I think you're right, DarkBlue, that's why I thought I'd ask before I redeemed those frequent flier miles!

      THanks, Fraser,

Tell me more about why Affiliate Summit is your go to. Do you find new affiliate connections there? Is it the speakers? The networking? The training? How many times have you gone?

Wow, Fraser, thanks for the Affiliate Summit info! Check out the impressive list of local meetups around the country:

        Affiliate Summit Meetups

There is one in my local area I can go to to start making connections immediately. Now, THAT is smart marketing. By providing me, as a potential attendee results in advance, they are demonstrating a willingness to serve and demonstrate commitment beyond the day of the event itself...

I kicked off the year with Affiliate Summit West in Vegas.

Headed to NC next month for the warrior event. (not thrilled about location, but should be good)

Looking to do BlogWorld later this year...

After that, it depends on what projects I am working on.

        Hey Ross,
YOu are really putting in the miles! You must be getting a lot out of it to invest that much time and money. What would you say are the top 3-5 benefits you got out of attending AFf Summit west? What do you hope to get from being at the Warrior Event in March? (Blogworld sounds like it could be fun, but maybe not exclusively im focused, is that right?)
        Thanks,

First off, my experience is usually different than most event attendees. I have a lot of connections with the bigger names in IM. I spend most of my time outside the events at private functions catching up with old friends, meeting new contacts, and talking business.

That's not to say you can't do that inside the events, but for me the benefit is in networking.

Benefit of ASW was making some new contacts, and reconnecting with some I've known for many years. Also got some insight into what a few others are doing in their business.

As for the Warrior event, I do a lot of different work behind the scenes for a lot of different people. It's always good to grow my network, and connect with others that are also actively working full time online. While there I will be meeting with a friend as well as looking for new JV partnerships.

BlogWorld is on my list because I run a big IM blog, and there's also some friends I know attending, and people I want to meet, but you're correct it's not IM niche oriented.

            Yep, Ross,
It seems that taking advantage of the opportunity to connect in person with people you may or may not have already done business with online is one of the biggest benefits of attending im conferences.

It seems there is practically a circuit of annual conferences one could attend to create a sort of personalized annual pilgrimage of the online marketing world.

From people I've spoken with who work this in the right way, this can be
a great way to boost an online business quickly for. Your thoughts?

We'll be at LeadsCon February 28th and 29th and Ad:Tech in April.

I've never attended any of the seminars at any of the various conferences because I'm usually at our booth on the exhibit floor. As an AM, my favorite part of any conference was meeting new and current affiliates. Conferences are one of the few times where I could connect with affiliates in "real life". Affiliate Summit West has always been my favorite - lots of affiliates in attendance and great parties (it IS Vegas).

Great to get the perspective from an AM's point of view. Would you mind dropping the links of the two conferences you are attending? I've never heard of LeadsCon. Who is the target audience?

Nothing but adtech / affiliate summit are the best. You will grow a lot of connections and gather so much information.

My friends have been there and they said it's one of the best experiences in their life. I am not eligible yet. But I will go there sooner or later.

      Hey Ryan,

I think going to solidify contacts with a group you've already laid some groundwork with makes a lot of sense. I suppose by then you will have had some results from your coaching and the trip will reinforce what you've learned? Is everyone in the group working on the same sort of project?

That's a cool way to grow your business and deepen your contacts. Seems like more marketers are offering live events for their coaching clients, this year.

      Cool, Val!

Luck you! I wonder how many locals will be in attendance, versus folks traveling in from a distance? I imagine having the conference in your
own backyard will help you build an ongoing network of locals to continue to work with, if you don't know most of the folks, already.

I also wonder how many first timers there tend to be, versus vets?

      Anyone have any ideas?
