Affiliate Links in PM

So I would like to have some feedback on this action...If I am wrong then I will eat crow.

A Forum member posted a thread asking for advice as to which way he should go and stated that he only had 4 hrs to do it in. I am not an IM guru but I had found a product that has helped me considerably and I was an affiliate for it. So instead of posting on the thread, I sent the link via a PM. The forum member sent a chastising PM back about offering affiliate links in a PM. I meant no offense in offering the affiliate link but is there some taboo against this sort of thing?

Ah, it can seem self-serving and not as genuine if you send an affiliate link. If you send non-affiliate links you ostensibly aren't looking for a few bucks. You can be legitimately trying to help someone, but if you send an affiliate link, it may seem tainted.

Thank you for your response. I can see that it does appear very self-serving. I meant nothing of that sort but people only look at your words. They don't think about the intent. Thanks guys.

I am almost positive sending unsolicited affiliate links via PM can get you banned rather quickly here.

I don't mean to send unsolicited links to make a quick buck. The person wanted to know what to do with his 4 hrs and the report is called The Lost Blueprint by Kyle Tully. It is a couple of years old but I found that it still applied. I apologized for the affiliate link but I still feel that at least look at the product and then point to where the rule is about affiliate links in PM and I would be fine. I was hurt by the chastisement when all I was trying to do was help.

Yeah John .. I don't think you sent the link just for the money. Sometimes it is better not to feed the make money in your underwear in 4 hour trolls.

They didn't really want your help .. they could have found what they were looking for in the search bar ... they probably did find out from most that know when they did the search. They just didn't like the answer.

Troy...I am not sure if you are reprimanding me or simply explaining something. I thank you for following the thread and helping me understand.

Ha ha...Troy, after posting this post, I read it to my wife and then it made sense. Thank you and that is very true.

If I did that, I would always state that it was an affiliate link. I.e. Full disclosure, that's an affiliate link, but this product has really worked for me..

That way there is nothing sleazy about it because you are being upfront an honest.

If you have a genuine and legit product recommendation and happen to promote this product as an affiliate, nothing speaks against telling the person that...just don't do it in a "sneaky" way. MANY/MOST will actually happily buy through your link.
