Is leaving a domain attached with an abandoned website bad?

I'm just wondering if I leaving a domain name attached to a website that has been abandoned and has not content - just a template for example- a bad thing?

Will Google penalize me once I decided to build a real site?

An the domains are actually pulling some traffic, not a lot but some. Yet when people go there they find an empty site. I have quite a few of those and not enough time to build up and maintain the sites for now. : /

If you leave them unattended for a while, they will eventually go down in the search results. How long before the decline? I don't know.

Depending on far they decline in the results, once you revive them you may have to work a bit harder to bring them back to their glory days.

Have you considered parking them? You may earn a little money.

Well if you're ranked for some keywords before, and your website has suddenly no content, your rank will decrease for sure.

It's not a penalty in the sense of that you did something wrong. It's just a normal response that if your website obviously has no content, it will have a hard time to rank for anything.
Once you put content back up again and start backlinking, you will gain in rank again. Most likely faster than other websites, since it's an aged domain that had a ranking before.

I would think if you resubmitted a sitemap through Google Webmaster Tools once you relaunched the site with more content, you wouldn't be getting penalized once they crawl it again.

    Aloha Christiani,
Just a quick thought. To preserve the "Google capital" that you have, you may find it profitable to occasionally quickly add a little content to keep the sites active and aging with life so that when you are really ready to activate the sites again you have maintained your "juice."

Unless the domain is really really good .

If not you will just paid for nothing and you will keep your old visitors away from your sites..
It will cause your SERP drop as well.
Either you build a new content in a short time or you just bought a new domain and develop again since your previous domain already been penalize once which not a good record for your domain.
