.com .net .org does it matter???

I want to buy a domain in my niche and .com etc have all gone, but the one for my country is available. Now does that matter too much? Or does it matter more just by ranking (SEO) etc...

Thanks for your input 8)

No it does not matter! Take your pick!

Just make sure your website is SEO optimised around your KW then BL to high PR sites

and BAM your blog will be on page 1 =)

PR stands for Page rank which is given by google based on a set criteria that only google knows, the higher the PR the more authority a website has, PR criteria can include domain age, number of sites linking to it, outbound links, content, and so on.

As of recent times google has publicly stated that they will place less importance to PR, and this is evident in some search results where a lower ranking site is higher in the search results page than a higher PR site.

      Hi,

Although it's really better to use the popular domain extensions such as the .com, it does not matter if you choose the one for your country. As long as you use a highly optimized domain name, then you won't have a problem with your SEO rankings. Domain name is more important than the extension.

Here are some tips to help you choose a good domain name:
-Pick a domain name that is short and easy to spell. You are allowed to make a domain name as long as 67 characters. However, the shorter the better. Make it easy for people to understand and remember.

-It would be best to register your company name as your main URL for the main reason that this is usually the first thing that people will type in their web browsers.

-Integrate commonly searched keywords in your website address.

-Using personal names. Professionals usually use domain names using their first and last names.

-Try avoiding long hyphenated domain names. An old school of thought was to register your website name with hyphens to rank higher in search engines. However, it often led to long domain names leading to confusion and misspellings. In addition, there's no strong basis that search engines really rank sites with hyphens higher.

      Hope this helps!
      Best,
      Nick

Hyphens, org, net, me, extensions, none of it matters.

The only time hyphens will play a role is when there's a non hyphenated name (soandso.com and so-and-so.com) then the first one will be a more relevant exact match domain and with the exact same content, will rank better because it's shorter and more relevant as far as character count in the domain.

If you have more relevant content however, you can outrank the one without dashes.

It's all about what google finds relevant for the keyword.

    Hope this helps!

None of it matters, like everyone else said.

If you are looking at it from a branding aspect, always go with .com

    • Apparently, Google seems to give better "SERP bonuses" to .com, .net and .org domains, in that order, according to our numerous tests and those of our clients. However, Google also seems to change those "SERP bonuses", in terms of weight, regularly, most likely to fend off SERP spammers...

Google PR is a grade given by Google to a page of a site on the Internet. The Google PR of a domain's index page can be different from the Google PR of its other internal pages. A link posted as a dofollow link on a high Google PR page tells SE bots to pass the Google PR juice of the page where the link is found to the linked page. A link posted as a nofollow link tells SE bots to not pass any Google PR juice. The "SERP weight" of an outbound link, with "SERP weight" in reference to Google PR, is also affected not only by the Google PR and other SEO factors present in the page where the outbound link is found, but also by the number of outbound links on the page. Our test results and those of our clients may be different from your own, so it's always better to formulate, implement your own tests and monitor the results you get, so as to improve your SERP campaigns...

The answer is, no-one REALLY knows the answer apart from Google-bods, and they ain't telling...
My experience is that it usually seems slightly easier to rank 'plain vanilla' .com, .net and .org names than it is for .com or .net.XX, but there are so many factors to account for that this may have nothing at all to do with the domain suffixes.
I would however say that outside your own marketplace, folks might be more comfortable with 'standard' suffixes but the true answer is what you actually experience.
In other words, if you try it and it works, great but if it doesn't, it may have nothing to do with the chosen domain name. So go with what you feel...

Put it this way. If your website is good enough, it won't even matter if you have an unknown TLD.

One of my favorite websites, OneTribe (it's about earrings and stretching) has a TLD of .nu. Yet, it is an incredibly popular website.

Make it good enough, and it won't matter what TLD you have.

I find that .com and .net work the best for me. .info is considered spam kinda and lowers your rank from my experience.
