Seeking advice for cross monetizing a website (affiliate+list+adsense?)

Hi all - I am working on a new site in the health and beauty field. This site caters to a product that I can promote via affiliate sales, but will also have some articles that I could either attempt to tie to the physical affiliate product or just monetize with adsense. Furthermore, I intend to use this as my first site to build a list for.

It seems like there are a lot of different ways to monetize this site - what is everyone's experience with cross monetizing sites with physical affiliate products and adsense? While also trying to promote a list?

Many people use a mixture of different methods, often adding Adsense as an afterthought. If you really want to monetize with Adsense just use that and nothing else.

Chances are in the Health niche the clicks you get will pay quite well, you don't really want this traffic clicking away from your site to Amazon for a $30 product, and information products for some health problems do not seem to sell that well, at least not on my acne site.
Another thing with Adsense is the Geo-targeting, so your ads will show up for visitors from any country and you get paid if they click on them.
With Amazon.com for instance if the buyers are outside the US you will not receive the commission unless you have linked to the Amazon site from the visitors country of origin.
I once posted about this before but nobody seemed to be interested in how much they were actually losing to Amazon. hope this helps.

I also agree with Tim3, in my experience whatever method I use be it affiliate or adsense or amazon I only go with one method instead of mixing them I have seen the sites with only one method convert a lot better.

Think about this for a second google and yahoo were close competitors in the beginning of search engines, yahoo offered news, weather, content etc. google on the other hand only offered a search box on its main page and even though the results are amazingly similar guess who controls more traffic?

You need to focus on one thing at time, if your building traffic to subscribe to your list its a very different marketing message to attract buyers to your site.

If you just focus on one method your progress will be more than doubled by conversion rate. Once you got one technique working, build a similar site for another traffic stream.

Link the two together and as you continue to build the authority of the sites will increase. Soon you will be dominating your niche
