What do you have to do to get banned from WF?

I'm asking because I was asked to review a WSO for another warrior. I was reading the WSO this morning. I came back this evening and the thread was closed and the user had been banned.
Does that mean he pulled some extreme stunt to get himself booted out? I'm quite curious to know what could've happened for such a huge measure to be taken against him.

Breaking the rules is one of the surest way to get banned. Just abide by them, be honest and fair in everything you do and you should be fine.

i was banned for like 30 days last year which is devastating when you're just beginning IM and don't know how to do anything and have a ton of questions.

pissed me off to no end. i posted a thread about something like seo or something then it got deleted. i didn't know what happened so i posted a very similar thread moments later because i needed an answer and then i received a pm saying "you have been banned for 30 days, at the end of the 30 days you can get access again so long as you don't do what you just did" or something to that effect. no warning jut ban!

i love the WF but that was one moment when i would've liked to hit that mod over the head with with a sharpened axe.

they didn't even let me know why my initial thread was deleted....

In most cases, if everyone truly read the rules, they themselves would realize WHY they have been banned. Of course, by then, it's too late cause you are already guilty.

A for asking WHY, the mods have a pretty straight up view on asking why -
        DON'T ASK, WON'T TELL!

In other words, ain't no use in you askin cause they ain't tellin ya, just behave next time! lol

With that said, I give props to the MODS as I feel they do a great job keeping the trash out of here.

They aren't perfect and have other things to do just like you and I, and this they do freely. So, best practice is ALWAYS read the rules, read them frequently, and most of all, DON'T BEND THEM, cause they don't bend far!

Matter of fact, I just ran across a post less than 10 minutes ago I knew
was a blatant violation. Someone must have reported it, because it is gone now.

My hat is tipped to you, mods.

You're making it sound too scary, like everyone has to walk on egg shells all the time. I seriously doubt anyone gets banned for anything close to 30 days for doing something accidentally, once. You have to work pretty hard at it to get a long ban like that. Read the rules and use common sense and most likely the worst that'll happen is you get a thread or two deleted for some reason.

            Ken,

Sorry if that's the way it sounded. I didn't mean for it to have that tone.

Guess I'm just trying to drive home the point that WE ALL NEED TO READ THE RULES. And remember them, and obey them.

It seems that of all of the things that most every newbie that passes through here is reminded of, the rules seem to be the last to be mentioned.
Why, I'm not sure. but this is the one area that the mods have less patience with than the others.

Case in point, and I DO NOT mean this critical, but if the OP had thought of the rules, she wouldn't have asked why, because they clearly state that.
Again, this is not a shot at her, just an illustration.

Anyway, I still apologize to you, and the OP or anyone else, if my post came across in the wrong light. Never meant that to be the case.
            Just making my observation!

            Best,

I guess when you are moderating a forum of this size you mightn't be so forthcoming with details either. You would get tired of telling people the same things over and over again.

I do agree that it's helpful to know why you got banned so you don't do the same thing again BUT in most cases I think the person is well aware of why they were banned. There are some exceptions like possibly in your case however I didn't see your post so can't comment.

In most cases, the person did something stupid without realizing it until they log back in and the little red sign comes up and tells you when the ban will be lifted. Sometimes a week, 2 weeks or longer.

I don't know for sure, but I think the most common reason is spamming. Going from post to post leaving quick blurbs linked to the answer everyone on that thread is looking for. Since you were reviewing a WSO, that could mean he was over zealous and too excited about his product and started threads or made too many comments for no other reason than to pre-sell his WSO. Could also be fake earnings or testimonials fresh off the Fiverr video production line.

Only a few days, no biggie. as for the time, that was US time, not AUS!

Though when it comes to all this banning stuff, I mean come, really, it doesn't matter that much... just run your business as *you* will run your business - you need to brand yourself as someone here to has a personality and isn't afraid of showing it; just don't go out of your way to belittle others in your quest for greatness - at all times show respect, if not for others then certainly for yourself.

The WF is just one marketplace of many; never let your "business" be solely reliant upon it.

Everyone here is speculating. The ban could be for anything from one day to permanent, and for a huge variety of reasons, ranging from very minor to extremely serious. So nobody should make any assumptions, because most likely you don't know (I have no idea why this person was banned either.)

Or any of the other mods. We haven't got time to deal with pointless pissing matches over someone's bruised ego, and that is almost always the source of the PM/Infraction battles.

If I recall correctly, you had a number of threads deleted because they were posted in the wrong section. You were warned, and kept posting similar threads - in the same wrong section. Then you started a thread ranting about how unfair it all is, and how your freedom of speech was being messed with. I believe you used the words "mods" and "Nazi" in the same sentence, but that might have been some other aggrieved twit.

It takes quite a bit to get a 30-day ban. It doesn't often happen for wrong section posting or one-off re-posting of deleted threads.

In response to the OP... Assume nothing from the presence of the word "Banned" under a username, except that the account has been prohibited from posting for some period of time. And it is VERY uncommon for any of the mods to publicly discuss why any particular member has been banned.

As a general rule, a permanent ban means a moderator has decided the banned member poses an active and probably ongoing threat to the well-being of the forum and/or other members.

You may not have used those exact words. It's been a while. I consider all angry "Why was my thread deleted" posts to be "freedom of speech" rants, and you were quite angry. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't remember it clearly enough to even recall it was you, much less the whole sequence.

There was something in the posts that made me think, "This is a reasonable person who's frustrated, not some self-entitled schmuck who's going to be a problem forever." That's why the ban was temporary.
and i don't think I've ever used the term "Nazi" online unless I was speaking in a WWII related thread.
I'll take your word for that. That's the one detail I wasn't sure was you.

I can definitely believe you were in axe-wielding mode, though.

The forum/mods here are pretty tolerant in my experience. Sure, I guess from time to time, you may might get the odd thread deleted, but I think you would have to be fairly consistent
or do something clearly ridiculous (spam on first post maybe) in your abuse of the forum to get an outright permanent ban.

    Just my thoughts.

    Hi Cybria,

Whenever we have a NEW account the WF modulators will be watching it closely. In order to avoid any 'red flags' stick to posting no more then 5 comments per day, giving good quality feedback and information to help others here in our WF. This is for quality control.

Then several months later you can begin to post more, when your account has build up enough age and trust.

    Hope that helps!

He may be just temporarily banned so wait a while and check back.

BTW, self promotion in a thread that you didn't pay for is against the rules.

Referring people to your sig or saying I'm the answer to this thread would be self promotion. I've seen more newbies doing this lately. Breaking any rules like that will get you banned.

You have to tell people that?

Who would run a business with only one source of clients and only one source of income?

I bet cussing a lot, always being condescending towards others, ALWAYS posting in all caps, or posting lots of gibberish or blatant spam could do it. These are things not to do! It is definitely best to be a contributing and positive member of a community that you want to be a part of. I have intentionally gotten myself banned from communities that I no longer want to be a part of, because that sometimes seems cleaner and easier than leaving on my own. Lolol. This forum is great, IMO, so I would encourage everyone to contribute in positive ways.

People are banned for all sorts of reasons.

Some people are given more leeway than others, meaning that for the same infraction some people will be banned, some people won't be.

There is some structure to follow, but remember that mods are people and discretion is used (whether rightly or wrongly in your or my perspective).

Read the rules, try to follow them and hope for the best. Report those breaking the rules, but just remember that rule breakers are not all treated the same despite what some may say or believe so be prepared to be shocked at some people's banned status and for what, and also be prepared to be shocked at what some people are able to get away with.

Specifically, it's absolutely dumbfounding to see how reality stacks up against some of the assumptions even very bright people make based on incomplete or inaccurate information.

All this nonsense basically boils down to, "Their decisions didn't match what my uninformed opinion says is the right thing, so they're scammers and scum. Or there's some sort of conspiracy going on."

Common civility prevents me from saying what I really want to say to you at the moment. Suffice to say that if utter disgust was grounds for banning, you'd have been nuked into digital ash about 5 minutes ago.

There will always be people the complain no matter how good they have it.

For the most part, the mods here are the most patient compared to any other forum I have participated in.

There is no way I could do their jobs. I would end up banning everyone and myself by the end of my mod career.

This is a unique forum since businesses can be built here. So that comes with a whole set of problems and I think the forum handles them in the best way possible.

Sure, things fall through the cracks at times but no one here can do a better job since we are all humans, besides Schwartz, who is half monkey.

Obviously, this forum has some benefits to those that complain the loudest since they keep coming back for more.

It really takes a lot to get banned here. I have been trying for years. :p I wouldn't worry too much unless you are out to take advantage of people.

Depending on who you listen to, we are too [strict|lenient], too [quick to ban|slow to ban], biased toward or unfair to [buyers|sellers], [heads|tails] on any other issue you can think of.

It's part of moderating. You can't expect to make yes/no decisions about people's dealings every day for years without knowing there will be a lot of people who will disagree.

Comments like James', though, go beyond simple disagreement.

I hate it when I get randomly banned. It happens all the time. One moment I'm on the forum minding my own business and following all the forum rules and then BLAMO! An instant and irrevocable 30 day ban falls from the heavens and lands right smack dab on top of me leaving me confused and shut out.

Really annoying to say the least. Something ought to be done about it. Just saying.

I think it's that Paul guy acting out because he sees how strong the Tigers are going to be this year in the AL.

If you were following a certain Warrior and then find out they are banned and now have no way to contact them, is there somewhere to look to see when and if they are allowed to come back to the forum?

Amazingly, yesterday, I got some fantastic information from someone on here whom I don't remember interacting with before and was so excited about it, was up most of the night implementing it and then, went to thank him profusely this morning and he is gone.

Thread closed and it says he is banned. I know some times it could be for short time but is there some place to see what it is?

    Just curious.

No, and the mods will not normally answer questions about why someone was banned or for how long.

OK. Thanks. I just thought I'd ask. The reason I was even wondering about it is because yesterday I found where you can check on infractions by people and I hadn't seen that before.

This forum has so much in it, I'm always finding something new.

      • Moderators don't have perfect knowledge. The fact that they are able to swiftly resolve problems is in part due to all the other pairs of eyes in this forum. If you don't realize there are non-mods reporting violations all day long, know it now.

Any seeming unevenness in treatment -- I am absolutely certain -- is due to the sheer volume in this place. I was reading a four months old Warriors For Hire thread yesterday where there were 5 or 6 complaints about the paid-for work not being delivered, along with increasingly urgent "Why don't the mods do something about this?" cries. If those folks were ever made whole it doesn't show up in the thread.

I just wonder if any of those people actually reported the situation, or just expected Mom and Dad to take care of it for them.

Meanwhile, the Warrior in question is back now merrily selling WSOs.

          Fluff,

This is an ongoing problem. We often go into a thread to check on a reported problem and see the sorts of "What the *#&$ is wrong with the mods? Why hasn't this been shut down?" comments, and not a single one of the people making them has bothered to report the problem.

For some newer folks, that's understandable. They don't know about the member moderation functions. This is especially likely in the WSO section, where we see a lot of people who don't comment in the discussion areas. But some of these folks know exactly how it works. You can tell when you see reports from them all week long, whining about how somebody left a negative (and civil) review of their product.

One guy, who's close to being removed from the forum for it, regularly reports the same post 4 or 5 times over the course of a day.

And then, there's always the flip side. People who report something and expect that we will immediately ban someone based on an unsupported allegation. Quite often, these turn out to be deliberate distortions of what happened, outright lies, or serious misreadings of what someone may have said.

Or they just didn't get their refund within 15 minutes of having asked, at 5 AM on a Sunday in the seller's time zone...

But, we have the members who help by reporting the problems they see. Those are the folks who make it possible to keep this place running. Without all those extra eyes, there would be pure chaos in next to no time.

Respect everyone here, follow the rules and you will never getting banned.

The rules are straightforward and explained in easy way, they are not a rocket scheme.

From time to time I check them. Thanks for the admin and the moderators for managing this Forum.

Before registering in Warrior Forum I did read negative reviews about the forum in some posts but I found that this is the best forum to learn from hosting people that provide priceless info.
