It's only bad if you do it wrong, otherwise it's very effective and quick.

      Yip, spot on.
Up until now I have always focused on SEO, but my goal in 2012 is to expand into paid traffic as well.

I agree with Christines Dream. It's all in the implementation and sources. Just make sure to look into the source.

Paid advertising is probably one of the quickest ways to scale up your business.
Granted, its a absolutely imperative know your metrics, otherwise, you'll be swimming at sea without a life jacket.

For adsense as monetization, BAD. I learned the hard way and lost a lot of money in the process. But yes, if you chose another form of monetizing your site you can be successful with purchased traffic.

4)Must be related specifically to your niche...

Depends on what you mean by buying traffic. Adwords can burn cash if you don't know what you are doing. However there are some amazing sites where you can buy banner space in specific niches, I use these all the time and most of them are less than $30 a month and they bring a lot of traffic.

Best is free though through organic search engine listing so write some articles, squidoo lenses and rank them for your keywords... I LOVE free organic traffic and when I get a site or article ranked I feel just great!

Buying traffic is not bad if you are making a profit from it.

It is bad if you are not making a profit.

      Just the same as:

Paying for SEO services is not bad if you are making a profit from it.

It is bad if you are not making a profit.

People sometimes miss the point that if you are paying for SEO services whether it be for a company to do seo for you or to be a member of a link network etc, you are in essence, at it's core level, trying to "buy" traffic in someway because you are paying for an increase in your rankings that will bring you the traffic (you hope).

So just like most other things in business, it isn't bad if there is money in your pocket at the end of the day and the ROI is good. (there's more to it than that, but that is the simplified version.)

      Hope that helps.

You really need to think about the traffic source. Thinking out of the box always helps aswell.

I found a site where people are paid pennies to read emails. It got me thinking "these people are strapped for cash and are online trying to make money. Perfect oppurtunity."

The site was selling traffic for $15 per thousand emails. Sent out 10'000 emails with a link to my squeeze page and ended up with, I think about 1200 subscribers. Once opted in they were sent to at OTO of $27, this converted at 2%. 24 purchases of a $27 product. Plus 1200 subscribers.

That was a happy couple days for me. Unfortunately the site is now out of business.

Definitely not, as long as it is targeted! I think when we look at gaining traffic we see it as 'paid traffic', but when one of our customers finds us, whether as the #1 ranked website for their keyword, or as a compelling PPC offer on the side of their screen, to them it's simply a solution to their problems. Same thing can be said for running a solo ad - we pay and see it as a paid strategy, they simply see it as a sweet free offer from whoever is offering it up to them, one that will hopefully help them solve a problem.

    Hope that helps!

I dont have experiene with adsense and ppc type stuff, but one thing for sure is DONT BUY TRAFFIC FROM SITES THAT CLAIM xxxx unique Visitors per month. They are just computer generated pings etc with random IPs and browser signatures and OS signatures, to make it look like they are coming from different browsers , from diff locations, with different OS's. So they guaruntee visits but dont guaruntee sales...so what do you do.....u buy more...and more..

Just about all of those are scams. for example websitetrafficwarehouse.com A professional site and they claim they had traffic from all types based on redirected expired domains. I purchased 10,000 visits for the month for about $50 to goto my leadnet pro software site domain I had up , I figured I should be getting tons of $300 payments over and over ..... boy was I wrong, I read somewhere someone claimed how they were frauds. A month went buy and i saw the stats DID show that I had around 10,000 visiters to the site all unique.

But How is it that I got NOT ONE SALE, and its business traffic and MLM traffic???? it made no sense to me. No one even emailed me questions of intrest. So i added analytics to it and I realized EVERY SINGLE VISOTOR coming from the service was there for like 5second then disapeared. th ones that came longer then 1 minute or so was people organicly finding the site and didnt come from trafficwarehouse redirecting interface. i sent them a letter of a peace of my mind. They are VERY NICE to you, but thats how u get duped in to their 'great service', so one thing is for sure in IM, trust can go along way, but when broken, it can end like that.

Also I found the thread of another person who had a situation like me. but i dont have a high post count. Just type in google websitetrafficwarehouse fraud.

So I was right. I tried many oter sites too and they were all fake. and i lost money. This was the 1st time I tried to get into IM about 9 months ago and didnt really know much. All I did was use Commisionblackops then tried to buy traffic to it. and then watch the money come in. lol but U learn right? its funny when i look just 9 months back, the knowledge i know now is retarded compaired to 8 years and still in college (which ill be dropping shortly for good).

But sometimes you have no choice but to try and hope it works. And because it didnt know i can post what NOT TO DO so you can avoid the mistake i did I almost was about to give up too when i found out I was duped. I then was lost in crap CB products, its only when I was reading a review for a product after google pulled up a warrior review thread thats when I accidently clicked on the WSO tread and the CB curse was over, lol , now I know what actual methods I must do to make money and that No 1 product will do all of that. ok it was a little off topic guys but. theres my little IM history and what I feel of the traffic u should avoid

There are many ways you can buy traffic to your website however you should never buy traffic from people who say that they can drive a very large amount of traffic to your website at a very low cost fee as if it's too good to be true it usually is.

In my opinion you should stay clear of websites that offer you millions of visitors for a low cost fee and look into pay per click advertising such as google adwords and solo ads (however with solo ads you have to be careful as some may rip you off you should always check out the solo ad reviews and you should consider using safe swap when buying solo ads)

You should also direct the visitor to your landing/squeeze page where you can collect the visitors name and email address so you can promote your products through email advertising and you should always focus in buying traffic to your particular website niche so if you have created a website about internet marketing you should focus the keywords you use on your pay per click adverts to the internet marketing niche and you should buy solo ads from an ezine who is promoting within the internet marketing niche if you use another niche you won't make as many leads or sales.

On Adsense sites it is not allowed, and for a very good reason. An advertiser paying 50 dollars for a click doesn't need a traffic bought in for pennies.

Agree with what others have said. What ever you are doing, you are actually buying traffic.

If its SEO you are paying with your time or paying an SEO company, if it's PPC traffic or similar than clearly you are paying and it needs to be targeted or cheap.

Other options like getting affiliates to drive traffic are effectively paid methods too as you are paying the affiliate a portion of the sale.

Solo ads can work well if you have an offer that converts well.

Personally I buy a reasonable amount of traffic to get fast results and split test pages etc.

I'd suggest using a mix, but before you start using expensive paid traffic or handing out large sums of money, make sure your squeeze pages and OTOs convert well so that at the very least you build a list, but hopefully at least break even from the OTO sales.

Once you know you are least breaking even you can really ramp things up and get a lot of traffic to your offers, build a list and then you can market to that list and make yet more sales.

I have a page here that talks about a lot of these things and a good cheap traffic source that you can use to test your squeeze pages etc

How to Build a List (no opt in needed)

I have had horrible luck with adwords.....I have had much success with facebook and POF only because you can target a specific type of person.

Unfortunately I'm not going to be discussing PPC here, rather the shady dealings of traffic brokers. A quick Google search shows quite how many vendors are willing to sell you "traffic", quoting prices like $69 for 100,000 "real" visitors. It's not difficult to make more than $69 from 100,000 visitors so you'd be forgiven for thinking that you're on to a renewable source of income, but where does that traffic come from?

The majority of these "real" visitors are being redirected from expired domains that the vendor has purchased. These expired domains still get some traffic and the vendor passes the visitors on to you - seems legitimate enough, no? It may be untargetted but if they're real then maybe it'll work.

The big IM players buy traffic. Buying can be good if you know what you are doing. If you can buy traffic for $1 and make $3 and clear a $2 profit per click, I want to buy all the traffic I can. It's all about buying quality traffic at the lowest possible cost and making as much as possible through a monetization system like info products, affiliate products or CPA.

The Truth about buying traffic, is that much of the time the quality is dubious at best and downright deceptive and perhaps even illegal at worst.

When you consider that most search engines have the ability to analyze the type of traffic that your website receives along with the IP address of the users, the operating system, they can even detect if the traffic is real or generated by a Robot program, (sometimes called Rogue Bots)

You might be innocent, and had no intention of doing anything wrong, and when you purchased that (cheap traffic or even expensive traffic) you never thought that you were getting ripped off, or that you might be getting scammed.

The trouble with traffic that is purchased or traded, as in traffic exchanges, is that with modern metrics, the search engines now have the ability, measure a websites traffic patterns, they can actually value your website based on the type of traffic it receives.

So, in the game of SEO, Rankings, traffic quality, you are what your website eats.

If you feed your website, traffic exchange traffic, from IP addresses, where there my be another server IP address spamming, or even offering some kind of pyramid scam, then you could be penalized for hanging out with the wrong kind of website.

In a very real way, if you hang out with drug dealers, eventually your going to go to jail.

You could apply this analogy to your website.

Back in the old days, it did not matter, you could purchase cheap traffic and improve your business by making it appear that your website was getting more traffic and so improve your ranking, not so any longer.

    Now, things have changed...
