Have you added video to your Twitter page (+ what cool Twitter tools do you use)?

Hi Folks,

This thing is pretty neat, it's called Bubble Twitter, at BubbleTweet - Add A Video Message To Your Twitter Page

See how it works on my Twitter page: BubbleTweet

It's pretty slick.

I had not seen it until last night, and had to set it up right away.

What other cool tools are you using to make Twitter more effective?

Thanks,
Dan

    Daniel,

    I'm not seeing your bubble!!

The page took an eon to load... but no bubble!

Went to the BubbleTweet site and checked it out - it looks cool, but yours ain't working

    Peter

EDIT: I tried again and it comes up - go figure.

    Hi Peter,

For me it does show something like "page loading" for maybe a second (which in the high-speed world may be enough to lose people...and seem like "an eon"

I'm not convinced yet to give that page out as my Twitter page just yet, although I am leaning that way.

    Warmly,
    Dan

P.S. I remember you for your compelling sigs, Peter. I'm going to have to check out both links

      Dan,

That's really cool. The bubble tracks the mouse when you scroll down, too.

Strange thing like Peter. When I went to your page the bubble didn't load. Then I checked out a couple of others and there was no problem. Went back to your page a second time and there it was.

A couple of questions. Can you only have one bubble? Does uploading a new one delete the old one?

Hey, thanks Peter for the re-(sort-of)-tweet [forum to Twitter ]. You could have some fun if you used "Pete" instead of "Peter", like "BubblePete" instead of BubbleTweet and "TweetPete".

    Hi Martin,

That is interesting. I'm not sure what the issue is with my BubbleTweet video.

It is set up to allow you only one video at a time. At first I recorded one of my own and tried uploading it, which they give you the option to do.

What they don't tell you until you go to upload it is it can only be 30 seconds long and under a fairly small file size.

So I found it best to use their interface that gives you the countdown for the 30 seconds.

Another tip is the videos I looked at before I did mine all seemed to have people looking down, as though watching themselves or the timer countdown. I think mine looks better by only looking at the blue light of the videocam.

    Warmly,
    Dan

P.S. To answer your other question, yes, I believe uploading a new video replaces the earlier one you have on file.

I've uploaded the video (a file, not webcam) and I must be being stupid, cos I don't know what to do know.

It goes through it's 'uploading' stage, apparently completes then the 'uploading' message clears and then... nothing. It just stays on the upload dialog box.

Does it take time to render and such, like youtube? I get no message saying so.

Sorry Dan, I know you're not the bubbletweet helpline but you got me into this!!!!!

        Peter,

Did you check out the 'Tips' link at the bottom?
I think you'll find (C) is the problem

Please review the appropriate help section below for quick help and if you still have issues, feel free to contact us at support@bubbletweets.com for additional support.

        [1] Video Doesn't Appear
        [2] No Audio

        VIDEO DOESN'T APPEAR:
        (A) If you don't see video in the bubble, you should click on the RED "Click Here" button in the center of the bubble, which will bring up the Flash settings dialog window.

        (B) The Flash settings dialog window will have a dropdown list of all the available camera drivers your computer has. You should select the first one on the list and then click the Close button.

If you still don't see video in the bubble, repeat this selection process until you find the one that works. Once you find the one that works, your settings will be saved.

        (C) If you still don't see video in the bubble, REMOVE YOUR HAT AND BEARD.

          Thanks for that Martin

I think the problem I have is that I'm trying to upload a file rather than using the webcam.

There's no support for this particular option - maybe it's not live yet.

Option C is not possible as I cannot remove my hat!

    Hi Peter,

I read that as "BubbleHead" Helpline, so maybe that could be a service I provide people. My girlfriend likes calling herself "noodlehead" when she does silly things.

That's probably a great opportunity for someone to run with.

I'm guessing the issue is with the file size. I'd have to check although I think they said it had to be less than 50megs - and 30 seconds long. Or, they don't say, although maybe they only work with certain formats.

It's pure speculation for me to guess.

Their site seems to be lagging for me today, so maybe just try again in a few hours, if you know the file size is small enough and the video is less than 30 seconds.

I still think it works well shooting a new video through their site, and I did not play with the upload option personally (because it seems like more work).

However, one additional tip about using their "shoot now" feature. At first it wasn't working for me, because the software built into the laptop, the camera assistant software, was running. I had to close that program before there program could use the video drivers, or whatever the technical reason for that was.

Make sure your own video recording programs are closed before you use theirs.

I know that's unrelated to your upload question, although if you were unable to use their software, that might be why.

    Warmly,
    Dan

I don't get what it does lol?

Well, I see the bubble video at the link but that doesn't show on Twitter.

Is it meant to show at your Twitter profile?

That's an interesting thing you suggest, Paul. I wonder whether someone could create a Camtasia style screen capture video and upload that.

As long as they know the bubble will only show maybe the central third or half of the image, it could be worth experimenting with.

And, to be clear, I'm not sure whether that would work, or not. There are free screen capture services on the Internet you could play with.

    Hi Louis,

I think it's pretty seamless. Your question is the reason I'm not totally convinced to tout the BubbleTweet link as my Twitter page.

Let's say you give out your BubbleTweet link. People click it and they're seeing what to them is your Twitter profile, although it's really a BubbleTweet clone of your profile, with the added "video player" in a bubble skin.

And then after your video finishes, you're immediately redirected back to your real Twitter page, so I'm guessing most people either won't notice or will think nothing of the "slight of hand" or "slight of video"

    Warmly,
    Dan

  • Dan,

    This is really badass!

I've seen some crazy twitter tools but this is by far the most impressive.

I'm going to implement this on my main twitter account and report back on the results.

    To be continued....

I'm glad you guys like it. I agree, it's a very cool tool.

Funny that you posted it, too, Cherilyn. I just looked at the first page to see whether anyone else had mentioned it, and figured if I missed an earlier post, maybe more folks would see it and it would be of interest to all who did.

I figured out how to upload a file - it seems to like flv format. I had no problems with that, or should I say, my dog, Sidney, had no problems with that. He doesn't talk on it though. Well, what d'you expect, he's a dog!

I don't mean to burst anyone's bubble <bad pun, sorry> , but doesn't Bubbletweet send people to a page different than your Twitter page (then redirect)?

To me, this means you need to promote your bubble page seperately, and no one from Twitter will see your bubble directly. Correct?

You're right Kurt. It requires its own promotion. But you can just swap it wherever you're promoting the standard link.
