Pinterest Drives More Traffic Than Google+, YouTube, and LinkedIn Combined!

Hey Warriors

I've been doing some research and I think it's time to jump into Pinterest with both feet. This fairly new social site is racking up unbelievable numbers. I think this is a golden opportunity for us to get in now.

Pinterest / Home

Here's what the famous blog, Mashable has to say:

"The darling network of brides-to-be, fashionistas and budding bakers now beats YouTube, Reddit, Google+, LinkedIn and MySpace for percentage of total referral traffic in January, according to a Shareaholic study. Pinterest accounted for 3.6% of referral traffic, while Twitter just barely edged ahead of the newcomer, accounting for 3.61% of referral traffic. In July 2011, Pinterest accounted for just 0.17% of referral traffic, proving the site's blockbuster growth..."
Pinterest Drives More Traffic Than Google+, YouTube and LinkedIn

The only problem is: You must be invited by someone who's already on Pinterest to join.

I'm asking for a Warrior to send me an invitation to join Pinterest.

Please pm me, and I'll be ever so grateful.

Regards,
Brent Whinfield.

P.S - Let's get a little discussion going as to how we can successfully market on this amazing new social network.

Yes my friend (a girl) is always looking at that site and she was the first one to make me aware of it just in December. I had never actually heard of it but she loves it. Then I went to a party and my friend's wife was saying she got some of the recipes from Pinterest. Then my other friend's wife was talking about it, too.

I bet if you did some market research it would be most young women on that site, or they would be the main demographic.

Seems like it's exploded. I would hate to see it become a new place for marketers to spam as I see how friends love it so much and love all they get out of it. If Pinterest has advertising space available, may be worth checking out. If there are ways that the system lets you market but in a real and personable way, I'm all for it.

But if people start to take advantage then Pinterest will make rules for those who abuse their system solely for monetary gain.

It's 70% women members at this time, and is highly popular, so of course, people are going to do their damnedest to try to spam it into oblivion, just as they do Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.

Pinterest will have anti-spam measures in place and then the babies will come here whining about Pinterest banning their accounts. You don't need a crystal ball to figure it all out. Happens over and over again.

Those are good points, Redicelander, except for one thing. Legitimate and professional marketers will play by the rules. This is simply an opportunity to do some networking and create friendships and trust that will allow you to offer valuable material of interest. In the exact same way professional marketers us Twitter and Facebook, the same opportunity exists in Pinterest. No difference. It's all in the approach.

Oh I'm not accusing you of anything. For every marketer who wants to play by the rules, there's one who won't. I was just thinking of those who will see Pinterest looks like a great site and try to go figure out some way to spam cpa offers or something.

Tiffany has also written a [$1] report on how to brand your business in an ETHICAL way on Pinterest.

I just joined a few days ago and have since started making some of my blog posts "pinnable" to make it easy for people to share them. That is a tip for everyone...even if you are not a member of Pinterest...make your content easy to Pin and you will get some traffic from people who are members. I also agree with redicelander above about definitely not spamming the service.

If you still need an invite, I can send you one.

I agree with Paul here. You don't have to be a Pinterest member to get traffic from the site to yours. You do have to prepare your content to be Pinterest friendly and interesting.

I learned about Pinterest in it's early month's but never really paid attention until I started noticing it was taken the lead as the #1 referrer for different pages on my sites. (I think this has happened to a lot of people). I noticed it but still didn't get it (Pinterest) so I started doing research on the site.

I had never bothered to pin a thing but since my sites are very graphics intensive they are naturally "pin-worthy". I'm working through improving graphics, adding pin buttons & making more 'graphic intensive' posts now. I do have some pin boards but I realize what's on my site has a more direct impact for increasing traffic to my site than what's on my pin boards.

If you're looking to drive traffic you don't need an invite as much as you need to prep the content on your sites.

BTW I got my original invite from one of my site's readers and the connection they had made with me on Twitter. I've also been added to a few pin groups. Once again, these invites came from relationships previously made through Twitter.

Did you even try to join Pinterest before starting this thread?

I signed up at their site, 24 hours later I received my "invitation" from Pinterest to create my account.

I've heard from others it takes 1-3 days so just go sign up.

Get to know the place vs. just trying to figure out "how to market on it".

Yes, Pinterest definitely seems well-positioned to be THE explosive social marketing medium for 2012. I've been hearing about it more and more since the first I heard about it towards the end of December. Apparently it has some very passionate users who really enjoy spending time on it.

In 2012 my resolution is to move away from Google as my primary source of traffic, so I have it on my to do list sometime in the next month or two to take a look at my current portfolio of websites and see which ones could benefit from being Pinterest-ized

I already have one site that gets a lot of traffic from tumbler, so I'm hoping that it won't be too much different in terms of marketing and integration.

My girlfriend recently just found this site. She has heard of it before but never used it until 3 days ago. I think she spends more time on that site than facebook now.

She's been calling me from a different room to look at things so many times that I went ahead and bought a desk for us to share. Now I can get some work done while she checks out Pinterest without losing time from walking back and forth.

This is definitely something worth looking into. I guess I'll go ahead and get an invite and start coming up with ideas.

Don't mine the pinterest gold, sell the tools to the pinterest gold miners.

Offer a customized site or a shopping cart to all those creative types that are getting a lot of response for their various projects.

Pinterest would be a great resource to sell "how to" ebooks. Sell an easy turnkey system for all the content creators to sell their ideas.

I keep seeing posts related to Pinterest from my friends on my personal Facebook account, which is how I initially found out about Pinterest. I've been reading more about it recently, but have yet to actually check out the site. I figured the last thing I needed was one more social networking account.

But now I'm more intrigued than before after reading this thread. I may just have to have a look at it.

I'm getting 50-200 visits per day from Pinterest on a health and beauty blog of mine. A few tips from me...

    1. Include one high quality image on every single page of your website.

    2. Add "Pin It" buttons near to these images.

    3. Get a Pinterest account and start Pinning things you find interesting including a mixture of original Pins and Repins. Occasionally pin your own stuff.

    4. Start following people/boards you find interesting - they may follow you back.

    5. Add a "Follow On Pinterest" button on your site to increase your following.

The bigger your following the greater your exposure and the more Repins you will get.

        Hi Kurt

        Not so much.

Every time you Pin something it goes onto the main page and includes your name and the board you pinned it too. Even if someone repins your pin then this information will remain below.

If you pin something that gets lots of repins and is exposed to lots of people then they may click through to your name or board and start following you.

Plus Pinterest sends an email notification to each person you repin or follow. The email includes a clickable link to your profile so they may follow that and start following you.

        Hope this makes sense.

Love, love, love Pinterest, it's like a FB/Tumblr/Posterous/StumbleUpon hybrid and it's really quick to build up a group of virtual contacts fast.

I found out about Pinterest about 3 months ago when I posted this article on my blog.

Someone 'pinned' it and I've been receiving between 10-30 visits from Pinterest for that post alone.

I've only become active on Pinterest last week even though I had the account since December [ add me up ] but I've posted several pins that lead straight to my blog and those pins have gotten me between 5-15 visits/day - each.

Note that Pinterest uses Skimlinks, so don't bother posting affiliate links there, they'll change it to theirs (their TOS during this Beta phase is very one-sided to their advantage, but then again, most users don't really care)... It doesn't accept Bit.Ly links and such as well.

It's a wonderful place to 'hang out'... I hope IM spammers don't ruin the place though.

I actually stumbled upon it by accident myself a week ago... had not realized that it even existed. Now after delving in and reading up a bit on it I am realizing that it is a MASSIVE audience of 18-40 yr old women (predominantly).

I'm assuming that it would be a great way to develop traffic if used in a responsible and respectful way. Heck there is even a Pinterest iPhone App... that says a lot about it's buzz at the moment.

Who knows... maybe it could be used as a personal "vision board" even if it doesn't form a part of a persons major business model.
