The difference between success and failure is whether you give up or not. Building success will take time and commitment. You will learn, try new things, and fail. To succeed you must be willing to accept failure and take the lessons learned to better yourself.

    Take Steve Jobs for example...

The man built an empire starting out from his garage. His asset was his ability to lead and never take no for an answer. He was never the kind to just give up.

Even when Apple was months from bankruptcy he was still able to turn the company around and make others believe. A little confidence will go a long way.

This is a great place to learn from. And it's free. Years ago learning internet marketing may have been difficult and limiting to peoples budgets but no longer is that the case.

If you don't have the money for web hosting then find someone who already has web hosting. Sell yourself and prove that your idea is worth investing in. Even start out with free hosting plan if you have to. Save up some money and make a list of what you will need to invest in first and foremost.

Read. Learn. And most importantly believe and never accept NO as an answer. The power of belief will go a long way.

Instead of buying a meal at McDonalds or the cup of Starbucks coffee, put that money aside and at the end of the month buy a hosting plan.

The point is there is no such thing as impossible.

If you want it bad enough...it is possible with hard work and commitment.

That's only true for those who:

      1. Work hard.
      2. Work hard.
      3. Work hard.

There's no point in repeating "don't give up yes, my time will come" to yourself while at the same time spending hours and hours buying up ebooks/courses, discussing random things on IM forums, and "learning" new stuff. Sadly, that's exactly what most people seem to do.

IM, just like any other business, is not for everyone. I have a lot of friends who are very happy with their corporate jobs. Everyone's different.

    Ok, bye.

Seriously, if you want to be successful at this you need to be persistent. Believe it or not, not everyone who is successful at IM turned on their computer and started making money right away (contrary to what a lot of people seem to believe). You will find a lot of them gave it years before they started making good money. The question is, do you have what it takes?

From the sounds of it, maybe not. It's hard work, yes, but once you get there the pay off is well worth it.

    You are still young..

I think the best thing to do right now is try to get a website or a personal blog up that relates to something you love. add adsense to it and over time it will grow i think that adsense is one off the best monitizer you can use to build confdents in IM if you are not making money or as a newbie and i say this because with adsense you are bound to make something whether $0.5 or $1.20 from a click which always always make you feel good within and the best thing is that it all adds up.

In the meanwhile read a lot noting beats knowledge when doing IM. I'm pretty sure that there are lot more persons on here who are doing it longer than you and still not making any money though that may not sound comforting i think this is because they keep making the same mistakes and are taking too long to learn from them.

Set goals and work towards them. All is not lost.

    best regards

The more you want to make money the less likely you will actually make some. I do IM for fun while still study in college and right now I am actually having a decent income.

The tips: I got fed up with information overload, so I stick with one method. After 6 months I finally made a sale and they are increasing everyday.

I think you should definitely get a 9-5 because that will take the pressure off your IM.
Then carry on with IM on the side. You can invest some of your earnings from your 9-5 into your IM business.

Pick a model that you want to use to make money. Don't jump from Amazon, to CPA, then back again...chose one method.
Then chose a method to drive traffic to your offer. Either SEO(my choice), or PPC, Article marketing, email marketing etc.

Find one and stick with it as well.
Just keep working hard and you will get results.

    flatbro94,

I have to agree with add191. Sometime information overload can really cause you to lose focus on WHY you got into IM. The other question posed was...where do you want to go with this? If you want a 6 figure/ yr business, then you need to give a 6 figure/yr effort into it. The mindset is what a lot of newbies forget to get their minds around. Now I know your not a newbie because you have more posts than me but I have been in the business world for the last 12 yrs and I have seen my share of failures and successes. If you want some help...let me know through PM?

    Flatbro,

How long have you been working at this? I see you joined the forum here in June 2011. Hopefully that was not your "start date", because that would mean you just started about 8 months ago. Like someone else pointed out I think, it takes many people YEARS to achieve some level of real success.

Heck, I just started achieving some real and consistent success in the offline space a few months ago, and I started in internet marketing almost 2 years ago.

You really can't give up that easily. You mentioned you've tried CPA and Amazon. How long for each one? Did you keep going back and forth between the two? If so, pick just one and stick with only that topic for at least several months. During that time, focus only on learning and implementing that one subject, nothing else.

Feel free to PM me if you think there's anything I might be able to help you with.

You shouldn't give up so quickly. What kind of things do you do to market your website? Some people are naturals at marketing their website business. But even if you're not a natural... you can still work at it. Stay diligent in your efforts.

If internet marketing was an easy job then I think even my Mum would give it a go!
The thing is, the internet is full of both good and bad information so you have to decide which things to dismiss.

I know I may be digressing a bit here but what I am trying to say is that it takes time and you shouldn't give up.

If you keep at it and work hard you will get there; if you simply give up at the first hurdle then this may not be the industry for you I'm afraid to say.

Perhaps more importantly, you have to be passionate about IM to really get far...and rich!

Hey Flatbro094.... good on 'ya for knowing if it's time to quit IM and move onto something else. Lots of Warriors here will fawn over you with their "awww, ya just keep tryin' and I'm sure you'll make it; you've gotta have perseverance; quitters never win and winners never quit" bull$#%t.

The truth is, the vast majority of those who try IM don't do nearly as well at it as they would in a 9-5 job. And by the way, there's nothing wrong with a 9-5 job. My father raised a terrific family, sent his children to very good universities and kept us in a beautiful home in a nice neighborhood in Connecticut...all with his 9-5 job. The trick is to learn what you're good at and if you're not good at something, realize it quickly and move on to something else. Many folks here are tenacious enough to avoid quitting an endeavor before giving it a chance to succeed. What some are not so good at is knowing when its time to quit. The big LIE in IM is that anyone can do it with the right amount of perseverance and patience. If that were true, everyone on this forum would be Frank Kern. Guess what... they're not.

For the record, I still dabble in IM as a hobby which I do purely for fun. When I tried IM as my full-time job, I found that I could only make about one-third of what I was making as a consultant so that is now my primary occupation.

Whatever you ultimately decide to do, best of luck and success to you.

Sorry, but it sounds like the problem here is that you're lazy and just want money handed to you on a silver platter.

I understand. I was at that point when I was in highschool and started looking into internet marketing. You need to understand that that's not how it works. Get motivated, if you need money for a domain or hosting go mow someone's lawn or do some surveys for money (Cashle, etc.). Take the plunge and buy a domain or two and hosting.

And lose that attitude. You'll never be successful with an "I can't" attitude.

To be honest, the choice is yours. But maybe your failings are because of the way you think. Maybe all you need to change is your attitude towards your chances of success.

Just reflect for one moment. MySpace was massive, why would anyone build ANOTHER Social Network? Ask Mark Zuckerburg

Yahoo pretty much dominated Search, why challenge that? Ask Larry Page and Sergei Brin

Google now "own' search. Why challenge that? PRECISELY because they "own" it. Who would be mad enough to enter their market? (check out my sig to find out)

The point is you can tread a well worn path and do the same things everyone else is doing and then you can add to the number of people feeding from the same carcass, or you can branch out, put your head above the parapet and move forward. Theres plenty of advice on this forum buy you have to decide what direction you are going in and then stick to it.

The 9 to 5 method of IM is building a squeeze page, sending traffic to it, hoping they will convert by giving you an email address and then pumping that list to make sales whilst at the same time repeating the process.

If thats the way you want to go, become good at it. It takes time. It takes effort. It takes knowledge. It takes understanding and it takes learning a new skill set. If you don't want to face those hurdles, don't get into IM because theres no such thing as easy money.

      All the best

Probably you were never going to make anything from it without a website.

You don't actually need any funds to get a website. You just need the right information. You're lacking information.

No - maybe not, strictly speaking - maybe you have too much information, but you don't have the experience or judgement to distinguish information from misinformation. What you're really lacking is reliable information, because you can't identify it among the waves of nonsense. That isn't your fault, mostly. Like you, I came here when I was 18 and it was exactly the same then, and I didn't know who to believe/trust, and I was misinformed, and I earned nothing for some months, partly for that reason.

I'm not going to feel sorry for you, 95-97% of IMers will go exactly the same way (actually I'm thinking this is more like about 90% now with the mass marketing of freelance sites) and you are no different.

Unfortunately for you, it's a cut-throat business and if you haven't got the heart for it, it's never going to work.

A point in your favor though, you have tried things, most don't. Word to the wise, CPA is one of the toughest aspect to master, I do respect that you've given it a try, it took me three years to nail it, luckily I had other streams of income to tide me over.

I would join the pack and say keep going, it will work eventually, but that wouldn't be honest and you need a reality check.

May be you haven't found the right method/implementation yet. But if you're still in high school, it probably means you don't have much of a budget, so you feel more risk averse to try methods that require setup costs. You could pick up IM again once you've finished high school and have a day job, and use some of that money for your IM. Or you can try something like fiverr and make a bit of money to reinvest in other ventures.

The most famous 7 words that Sir Winston Churchill ever said "Never Give Up, Never Ever Give Up".

You need to split your life in to two parts, the first is instant gratification. Get a part time job, start selling on EBay.

The second part runs concurrently to the instant gratification part and that is to build a solid business foundation, whis will take time, but will be worth it.

Give up, throw the towel in and without being HARSH nobody cares really, nothing was every achieved by giving up, however most give up just as the break is around the corner.

Forget about what has happened, what you haven't achieved and start again. What was was today is what is.

    Good luck

Thanks guys for the comments. I originally started IM last year when the challgene started for 2011. My reason for IM was to help my family. I didnt really go through challenge all the way. I have joined back then, but I really havent really started. I began a maybe 1-2 months ago. I heard Amazon was were the newbies went. So I took a crack at it and learned alot about SEO, the different types of sites. I also found how to find good keywords and amazon products. The only thing that was stopping me was a website. I also looked into CPA, I've gotten the Rags2Riches and took my first step getting into 2 networks. For CPA I was going to use free methods such as video marketing and Article Marketing etc..

It's actually uncommon for people to have immediate success, and the ones who truly did a lot of times come from some major marketing background and already have a lot of knowledge.

Even John Reese started around 1990 and had developed many businesses when the internet was just a baby, yet the story comes across as though he got fed up, went online sometime around the early 2000s and a few months later made that famous $1,000,000 in 24 hours.

Plus a lot of those big dogs networked and got direct access to what some of the other ones had learned through the school of hard knocks.

I can't tell you the tens of thousands of hours that I have spent or how many websites I've had that failed, yet it's now starting to pay off. You just can't give up, and the one reason I don't is because I'm not passionate about money, but this business.

You've signed up to networks... but what exactly have you done to market yourself? Simply signing up to a couple of websites won't make you a single dollar.

I've seen a few of your threads and it seems that you're bouncing around without really giving anything a try (for long enough).

You've repeated your 'I'm broke' story many times around here, and in many ways I do feel sorry for you, but you really need to 'up your game' and figure out a way to get $10 into a PayPal account. If you continue to tell yourself that you're broke then that's exactly how you'll stay - because you'll repeat the story to yourself over and over again, until it becomes automatic and you actually begin to believe it.

Change your mindset from 'poor me' to something more positive, and sway your attention away from money, money, money and onto providing value to real people.

Instead of saying 'I'm broke, I can't afford a website' rephrase your problem and ask 'How can I get $10 so I can buy a website - can I gather money offline?".

If you truly want to live a financially-free lifestyle, and I mean with a burning desire, then you'll persevere through these bumps along the road.

Just remember: Thoughts create feelings, feelings create actions and actions create habits; and once you're in a bad habit, it's not easy to break.

You're most likely suffering from information overload. You haven't accomplished anything because you haven't tried anything!

I mean everything I say in good faith - but how could you possibly throw in the towel when you've barely started?

Find ONE proven traffic generating method and ONE proven sales funnel and start doing something to get the ball rolling - don't worry about getting everything perfect because that can all be fixed up later down the track.

Invest time in getting this to work. You'll be amazed at how much you can accomplish if you dedicate 2 or even 3 hours a day for a couple of months.

It shouldn't take you more than 3 days to get a sales funnels and a basic website set-up. Once these are up and running (and as I said, it doesn't have to be perfect) then focus your energy on traffic generation.

You only live once. Every second you spend being unproductive is a second that cannot be bought, traded or earned back.

Such a negative post and look at all of the replies.. Clearly warriors think you can make money online!!

Your attitude determines your success, honestly. If you think you don't have what it takes then you probably don't. But here's what I see with someone your age who even knows about internet marketing.... You can easily get a part-time job on the weekends, get yourself into one of the affordable coaching programs, learn everything you can about the industry, and be making a cool 6-7 figures by the time all of your buddies are in their sophomore years in college. Seriously, I wish I had your advantage in high school, and I bet many of the other warriors would agree with me on this one.

Don't give up when it's just a matter of learning - you're not going to be a millionaire in high-school, but so what! You don't need to be! Just learn, learn, and learn some more... Figure out how to build a real online business, take your time, which you have plenty of - c'mon you're in high-school. Have a good 'can-do' attitude, because in this business a bad attitude will hurt your progress.

But at the end of the day, if you really don't want to make it in IM none of this can help.

    Good luck!

It's good that you made this post. Everyone, I'm sure, can relate in one way or another to being frustrated with something. I've been Internet Marketing since 1998. I do it full time. I started out writing eBooks about topics I enjoyed writing about. Afterwards, I moved on to building websites around these topics. Today, I do it for companies and businesses of every size. The point is, when you're starting out, stick with topics you enjoy. This makes the learning process much easier. Marketing is marketing - whether you're promoting pet products or ebooks on how to build model ships. If you start something your heart is really into in the first place, it's a lot tougher to keep going when you don't see the results you're looking for.

Find a topic you enjoy and build your Internet marketing skills around that subject.

Heavy sigh. Listening to the familiar old chorus of online sales is for everyone.

I commend you for trying new things before you get out of high school. There's nothing wrong with off-line work at all, despite what some IMers want you to believe - remember, they are Sales people. They are used to selling their point of view.

Go out and get a brick and mortar job, do some traveling, or go to school or all three. You can do other things and continue to dabble a little here and there online until you figure out what exactly excites you enough to want to do it for the rest of your life. You aren't locking the Internet door behind you. You can always come back to it any time you want to. Same with wanting to go back to brick and mortar. If someone gets online and finds they don't really like it, they aren't losers for wanting something other than the mainstream crowd in a forum.

You have a lot of years to live -- always do what you want and have fun with them because when you are lying on your deathbed you will never regret not working more hours -- but if you don't follow your own choices of what to do, you will regret that, and eventually, there will be no more time to fix that one.

    Flatbro,

I dont think you should give up, there is alot you can do. IM is a wide category, it has many subcategories. Maybe the thing that you chose to do wasn't for you. I tried doing amazon marketing last year but couldnt make any money, this year I have been doing adsense marketing and its been two week and got my first click yesterday.

Who ever says that you are too young because you are in high school dont even know what they are talking about. I am in high school as well, Im a senior. I got the money for the website I have right now from Fiverr. You can make some money pretty quickly from over there. You said that you have a certification from Cisco??? that is great.

Try making some gigs on Fiverr, sometimes if the people like your work, they would hire you outside of fiverr.

To say that you are unsuccessful because of the lack of resources than I think you just havent tried hard enough.

If you have internet than you have all the resources in the world available to you,

The reason most people give up on IM is that their mind set is wrong. You need to be prepared to work hard, stay with the one system and not get distracted by the next quick fix. But if you think you should quit then your heart isn't in it and if you aren't enjoying it then by all means give up.

I started my website for $300. That is NOTHING compared to what most businesses need when starting up. Heck you can probably do it for even less. It takes patience and hard work to make it in IM. If you want it bad enough you'll make it but you have to be driven.

If you are still in high school, then chances are that you haven't given Internet marketing quite the chance that it deserves. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing - if it's not something you enjoy then there is no sense in pursuing it.

However, just look around… There is ample proof that YOU CAN MAKE MONEY doing this, it will just take time, patience, diligence and hard work.

Internet marketing is not going to be the thing that allows you to retire after high school. Internet marketing, however, will teach you a hard work ethic and the power of sheer determination, which are two lessons that you probably won't ever learn in high school. Or college, depending on where you go and what you do (no offense to the college grads present).

  • IM isn't for everyone. Definately not those that like to see failure a lot. I failed for a long time before I finally started earning a full time living online. It was painful, I almost wanted to quit too but the year I made over 60,000$ made me very thankful I sticked to IM. I made more than my day job and if you're dedicated, you won't quit.

You are still very young and by the time you're older you could be running a successful internet business or just making money as an affiliate. The key is practice, you don't get good at Football overnight. Same with Internet Marketing!

Don't personalize your mistakes. If you look at everything that goes wrong and think "I'm just not good at this" then you'll never succeed at it.

If something isn't working then it's because there's something wrong with your approach or your methods. Ask for specific advice about it from people who know, try learning more about it or try a different approach. If you keep doing this every time you hit a roadblock then you have no choice but to succeed.

I've only been at this for just over a year and there were many, many times when bad things happened and I could have given up. I had my adwords account banned for life, I had my websites hacked, I went months without making a cent etc etc.

I kept plugging away and I now have a nice passive income every month that I don't even need to work for. I just spend my time and profits building new sites.

A lot of people will tell you to stay and keep trying, but that's really up to you, to decide.

Remember very few people of all the millions who tries. Actually does make a living from IM. So if you can't seem to get it to work. And you feel bumped down and burned out.

I would recommend you to think about if you rather would have a regular job. And possibly get a better social life a long with the regular job.

Then if you come back after say a 6 month total "break" from IM and you doesn't feel the need to try and be an IM success quit.

Instead of spending hours of time and tons of money and something that burns you out and makes you feel down. And might not even work properly for you. I would say try the break thing.

You might end up gaining more by focusing on other aspects of your life than struggling with IM.

that YOU can do it all, despite whatever the nay sayers have tried
    to tell you otherwise.

Simple fact is, you need to have "balls of steel" in this industry
if you want to have any continual sustained success. We all go through
failures, and being this business is primarily numbers oriented,
if you persist, its natural that success will come as a result.

The only thing that is certain is that if you do give up, you'll never succeed. As many have said, and it's true, it's a matter of picking one method and sticking with it until you do succeed, which, with hard work and persistence, you undoubtedly will.
