Not sure if this is the proper forum category for this question but here we go. I'm wanting to make a site about Movie Quotes. Would it be legal to just copy/paste quotes from IMDB and other sites who have a lot of movie quotes?

I'm sure you'd technically be violating some sort of copyright law. You might want to check the TOS..

I hope you are aware that this is the copywriting and the copyright forum.

Seriously why not seek legal advice online about your intended venture.

You can take any number of quotes from IMDB without any issues, remember they are not th source of the quote, so put the film next to it (which I would assume you would be doing) and you will be fine.

Have you ever tried this yourself? With a different site/content? I'm thinking song lyrics would be very similar

Song lyrics is the same thing indeed, the only people who could cause trouble are the writers of the song. But they almost never do, and when they do, you'll probably get asked nicely to remove the lyrics before you get into any legal issues.

It won't violate the law because you copied them from IMDB, they also copied them from movies.
The only way it may be illegal is because you are copying the quotes from the movies. The director of the movie may cause trouble. That rarely happens though as you are promoting the movie for him, so the director will most likely not make a fuzz.
