I'm going to venture that they are using PPC or PPV traffic.

I assume through social media shares and likes etc.

When people see something funny on Facebook, they usually click share. Then all their friends get to see it and then someone else shares it and the exact same thing happens. The cycle goes on and one.

Why? Because people like to share 3 things with others, laughs, sadness and agitations.

Thats why things like Rebecca Black, 2-girls-1-cup and so on, go viral so quickly.

Most likely through social media. people like getting entertained. Once they see something they like, they will share it and show it to other people.

And they will share it with others... and so on and so forth!

The problem with this kind of traffic is that they're usually hard to monetize.

Not necessarily. I Can Haz Cheezeburger for example makes a ton of money by selling merchandise surrounding the photos that they have on their site. The catch is to get people who take these funny photos to give you rights to them and then you can have almost anything printed that you can imagine.

Now the fake movie trailers on YouTube, I don't have a clue how to monetize those because you can print a movie trailer onto a t shirt or a coffee mug. Though that does give me a cool idea for a coffee mug -- one with a built in screen that display the latest news and whatnot. Just need to find a way to build one where the screen wouldn't crack from constantly being heated up when you pour your morning coffee...

Great thread but surely, when I share a funny graphic the person getting the juice is the person/comic site who posted the original? So they should, but where is the benefit to me? Does anybody know where to get free funny pictures? Or a way where a funny picture can feed/link back to me? (On Facebook)

I've tried this niche and all I can think of is.. it is money orientated. Whoeevr creates them has lots of money to kickstart them. But how they kickstart them I guess is through another larger fan page on Facebook that they probably bought. Without money it will take you months or years. unfortunately that's how it goes. To those who say it's hard to monetize.. that's not true. Once you have lots of traffic, you've already monetized your site enough to earn enough ;-)

High traffic is fine providing they make a good amount from adsense. In reality it's a pretty plain blog. Must be some traffic exchange program.
