Is this THE issue that's preventing your IM success ?

The only problem that is preventing me from expanding and multiplying my business is lack of focus which manifests as slow speed of implementation.

Do you have issues with multitasking, switching from one task to another, working on two-three projects in different windows at the same time ? (I have 18 browser tabs open right now)

I would love to hear from those who overcame this problem and what has worked best for you.

What do you do to stay focus ?

How do you block out distractions ? Especially business related.

    We all get to that point!

    To get myself motivated and confident to succeed in the tasks I have set myself, I listen to various videos by Paul McKenna to help me relax and relieve stress. I posted a good video in this thread.

    Completing mountains of tasks after listening to that helps alot.

    Every day write a list of the most important things you need to get done. Allocate a specific amount of time every day and block out all other chores, offers, projects and distractions block everything else out and only focus on your list.

    Start with the most important and work through your list crossing it off as you go. This is the only way I can stay focussed and productive. I need constant reminding of what needs to be done so I always have a list.

    I would suggest making a schedule, just like what MrExclusive here has mentioned. Don't put too much work on a single day, 'cause that's going to give you stress. If you're familiar with Covey's time management quadrants, avoid getting yourself in a situation wherein the not urgent and not important ones are on the priority list of your schedule.

    I used to yes, and what helped me overcome it was realized that I'm never going to accomplish crap until I get focused and get stuff done. If you serious enough about your business, you will make it happen.

    Hi Elmar,

    I used to lack of focus on getting things done because of information overloaded. To try to overcome this, I suggest to have a checklist
    on hand and write and list the priority of the things that you require to complete everyday.

    You need not stress yourself up to complete everything at one go. Take one at a go and complete one at a time.

    Find a place or environment or the time that suits or works best for you. As for me, my working level works best in the middle of the night, at my own room, with a cup of coffee near to my PC.

    I hope that the above suggestions will help you to stay focus and block out any distractions.

    Thanks all for your replies.

    I guess I wasn't very clear in my OP. I actually do get a lot done and do not suffer from information overload.

    My question really was how do I increase my productivity go from making a living online to building a powerful business.

    A feeling of being overwhelmed can also cause stagnation in IM because you just don't know what to do next, so you do nothing.

    Dedicate 2-3 hours a day for your business. Don't do any more work for the rest of the day.
    It forces you to prioritize and do what is essential for that day.

    It's the pareto principle that 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes.
    You know how you check emails several times a day, stop because you want to watch a youtube video and scour the forums while you are meant to be working? That's all taking you away from your goal. Do that after you have finished your set time for work.

    You achieve more and have more time free.

    lock up in the room. draw the curtains. have a separate user account on the computer. strictly one for work and one for play.

    Oh man, I know where you are coming from. I have 41 browser tabs open right now - at least half are related to different sites I am working on (I always need two tabs - one for the admin page, one for the site so I can see what's going on). Now imagine all that, with a 2-year-old running around demanding constant attention. The only thing that amazes me is I get ANYTHING done at all.

    Part of it has been about "triage" - ditching projects that I can't devote time to and focusing on the important ones. I also agree that having just a few hours a day to work in does really help you focus.
