Hosting Providers took all my sites down...

I just checked my sites just now and to my dismay, none of my websites are working!

I called my hosting provider, and apparently they took all my websites down to due to CPU overload on a shared host.

I asked them what I could do to fix this, and the rep said even he doesn't know.

What rights do my hosting provider have to take all my websites down due to CPU overload?

Does anybody ever had this problem? Or how offer does this happen?

I'm honestly thinking about switching to HostGator, but do they do that or all hosting providers do that?

Hostgator will send you warnings before taking action like that. And they sometimes will even help fix whatever is causing the high load if you ask them to investigate it.

My hosting provider doesn't do that. They send me a warning ticket without prompt time to take action before taking my sites down.

well your hosting provider is a joke. Use hostgator, they're as professional as it gets with *real 24/7 support. They also have 10 day grace period on payments so you can be late. Also I recommend the baby plan at least for unlimited domains.

Any reputable host will give you ample warning that your sites are using too many resources. Get your current host to give you full backups of your sites and switch pronto.

A lot of people here hit the nail on the head: "stop using crappy" or unreliable hosting providers.

When it comes to your websites, it's the lifeblood of your business -- DON'T BE CHEAP when it comes to this. You get what you pay for.

Regarding your situation, the first thing you should do is go over your hosting provider's terms of service and then based upon what you find there, take the appropriate action.

Otherwise, realize that complaining is not going to help and get your sites transferred to another hosting provider as soon as you are able.

I'm not endorsing any one hosting provider, but I've used Hostmonster for years and years and years and love their reliability and customer service. Consider doing some research and finding the right hosting provider for you.

You can switch to using vps, your own virtual private server where you are free to use as much resources as you want

My advice is to definitely get yourself over to Hostgator pronto. They are really professional, their customer service is superb, and they certainly wouldn't do anything like this without plenty of warning. As previous posters have said, it sounds like you are with a crappy hosting company.

I hope you get it sorted soon.

      Good Luck.

Definitely change hosting companies. Get a VPS, HostGator are good, I also like DreamHost even though I know a lot of people here don't.

Either way, no cheaping out on the hosting because as someone mentioned above, it is the lifeblood of your business!

Can you login to your cPanel? If so, do a full cPanel backup ASAP so you can move to a new hosting plan whether it be shared or VPS. Your new web hosting company can restore your full cPanel backup for you on your new account. Best of luck with getting back online!

If your sites have a problem with Hostgator, they normally contact you to get it worked out. They can usually tell you what the problem is. You may have a bunch of plugins that are hard on server load or other programs. If you have chron jobs, that's often a problem.

But a host who doesn't know what is causing it and just takes your site down is a worthless host.
