Can I get input on My 1st site for an offline client

I just built a site for my first offline business. Actually...I did it for free , but I want to use it as a sample.

I made it for a local church that is starting a bible college. It is built on wordpress, and I am still working on it - basically it is just templated out right now - but I did add a future store and stuff.

The client loves the look, I am not all that happy with it, though. I cant make banners, and sense I am doing it free, I cant pay to have one built - so that is going to be a sour point for me until I get it resolved.

Anyway, here is the site Home : Family Ministries Bible College It is on my test site right now. I will transfer the files to his domain later on.

Let me know - ALso, If you know how I can get a free banner - that would be nice. Then I could adapt the background colors to it.

This is the only thing that matters. When you're in a service industry, impress the client. You could spend days, weeks, months trying to make the perfect site "for you" but your client might not like it.

As for a banner, just create a 468x60 image in photoshop or any other paint program and go from there.

By the way, the template looks great.

    Kindest regards,
    Karl.

Hi - " The client loves the look, I am not all that happy with it"
my favourite saying dealing with real business owners is
    you cant argue with taste
if the client likes it then its perfect -end of story - leave it and move on
time management is essential in any business
    another favourite - chuckle
if it aint broke - dont fix it
the site looks clean - I would put the navigation links at the top of the page
google free banner maker -there is plenty of sites will let you design one online
    Cheers
    Danny

If you don't already know about this, get ready to have your world rocked.

I use Artisteer for designing quick sites and blogs.

They look great and it is SO easy to use.

I'm not an affiliate or a "web monkey" so this is unbiased.

If you are getting in the business of helping clients get websites, there's nothing easier, faster and better (IMHO) than Artisteer.

Big Mike has a great program here that I use. It is called GFX Writer. You can quickly and easily create nice looking banners, ebook and CD covers. And it is pretty affordable too. I like it because of the ease of use.

You might want to ask yourself
"What's would I like visitors to my site to do when they get there?"
"What's the best result I could get out of them visiting this site and how can I change the site to get this result?"

But for a free site done for referrals where the client is happy it seems fine to me.

It's a good start to get yourself some experience of working with a real client.

As for your questions - I take it you dont like the site?

I need to get some calls of action up - I know. That was the content the client supplied

Looks good, you may think about a header graphic, but for this type of site you don't really need anything fancy.

I like the site very much, except for the font size. As people attending the church might be sight impaired and do not know how to enlarge the writing it might need some attention. Also you don't need 2 home pages.

Aside from that you have done great.

    God bless

I don't think it looks all that bad.

If the customer like it, let them have it.

    1. It's excellent.
    2. Like Karl said. Read his reply very carefully and take it to heart.
    3. Congratulations on taking action, and doing it so impressively.
    4. Stop doing things for free. People appreciate them less, though your client appears to be a welcome exception.

If this is your first I can't wait to see what you come up with over the next few months!
It looks great and very professional.
The only downside for me is that the text seems too much of a solid block. I would try a larger font, and indent some sentences. Perhaps even use bullet points for part of it. Whatever it takes to break it up and make for an easier read.
But well done on the design

    Pam

Considering this is your first Wordpress site, it looks quite good and should appeal to a wide spectrum of visitors. I would think you will do very well at future site builds.
