Build a new niche site or invest time in a new traffic source?

I'm just curious.

I see a lot of people here starting new niche sites all the time. The SEO crowd start a new niche site when the are ranking for certain keywords; the syndication crowd start a new niche site when they are doing whatever they do.

I figured: niches can be hit or miss + it is hard trying to re-learn a whole new niche.

Traffic sources might take you a little time to get good at. The thing is, you already have a niche that people are interested in and a sales funnel which is bringing you profit.

Does it not make sense to learn new traffic methods, driving them to your converting niche site, before you start looking for a new niche?

I was just thinking out loud.

I happen to think that when you are good at driving traffic you can comfortably explore any niche you want to and have a certain level of success.

    On the other hand,

If you are good at creating products and content in multiple different niches and you are making money, you can always get SEO done for you by outsourcing.

So they both go hand in hand.

You can learn and earn or you can earn and outsource.

    The choice is yours

I have faced this dilemma many times. I think generally most successful marketers out there suggest you stick to the same niche that you know and totally max it out with every possible traffic source before you go jump to another niche.

Knowing how to get traffic (and monetize it) is an extremely valuable skillset. When you master this skillset with one product, you can easily transfer it to other products.

Once you develop this skillset fully with one product, every other niche you go into will be FAR more lucrative than if you just developed it partially to begin with.

By starting in new niches too soon, you are only delaying your mastery of traffic generation and monetization. Since every time you start a new niche you are in effect starting again from the beginning - this takes time - doing market research, setting up a website, writing articles, creating a product/finding affiliate products, setting up the traffic methods you already know...
