I've been blogging about my ventures in World of Warcraft for a few months now, and I'm very close to reaching page 1 on google on my primary key word, not exactly hardcore linkbuilding done so far.
This means that I in February almost saw 1000 uniques so far (22/02) which is awesome. I try to post updates every now and then, but its definitely not my main priority.
I tried to set up some monetizing on it, just to get a few bucks back - don't really expect it to make millions but I've run into some problems with that.
at first I tried injecting adsense into the posts, made them look like part of the website, including a text link unit at the bottom of posts.
So far for 2012 I've had over 3,500 pageviews but not ONE click. Now I'm assuming that adsense does work, so in the beginning i tried to force the ads to be related instead of personal, didn't work. Then I tried adding a top banner to the front page and become more aggressive with the adsense, still yet to see a click.
I figured that this lack of adsense success was probably because:
A - lack of targeted ads for the niche
B - People just aren't really in a mood to follow ads on this type of blogs
Anyway, the next thing I did was to look for WoW affiliate products i could promote. I've had a guide on the front page since the page went live, and it's generated some 40 clicks without a sale (which doesn't bother me too much)
I found a few more and set up a rotation to show these new affiliate products where the adsense units used to be and see how it works. I can see that the new banners have recieved 1-2 clicks in a day which is great.
I guess this is half a commentary style post and half a question post...is there any glaring mistakes/overlooks I'm doing and do you have any recommendations for me?
