iWriter not really copyscape checked?

Has anyone else notice this? Today was my first time using iWriter and over half of my order was more or less copied from ezine. I contacted support on iWriter and was told they are "working on it".

Weird... I've never had that issue and I know many people who write for iWriter saying their articles get auto-denied if they don't pass copyscape.

Have you actually checked the articles you have received yourself? I really am hoping that this is just a temporary problem with their system because it really seems like a great site.

I found 7 exact matches for one article I received. That makes it completely useless.

Hi Amanda, yes, about a month ago, we added a feature that actually shows writers which words fail the Copyscape check. If you, or anyone, signs up as a writers, pastes in a copied article and tries to submit it, they'll quickly see which words aren't passing because they'll be highlighted in yellow. Anyone that tells you we don't run things through Copyscape is simply not correct.

AFAIK they are not. I had arguments with their support, as I tried it out and my articles came back with matches from copyscape. I checked it myself in copyscape, because I didn't believe their claims that they were checked. Support told me they were "original enough" more or less. In any case, I needed them 100% original, not 95% original. I stopped using them after my test.

    iWriter is 100% Copyscaped.

There is a .03% chance an article will be run through Copyscape and due to the use of their premium API at high daily volume, "Copyscape" won't find a match. But when later running, a match could be found. You can read about this on Copyscape is you're a premium API user running high volume. They will tell you this as well.

With that said, it's extremely slim that this is going to happen. And if it does, contacting our support desk and letting us know the writer's name and price of the article will always result in:

    1. An immediate BAN of the writer.
    2. An immediate and full refund of the article.

    Thank you

Thank you for replying to the thread Brad. This is more or less what I was told through your support desk today.

And for anyone wondering, I was given a refund on the article and told that the user had been banned.

          Hi Brad,

Thanks for popping in here and comment. With all due respect Sir, sometimes things do go wrong, even with computers, don't you agree? =)

This is an honest comment, and I can give you the writer's name and article details to you which I had given to Charles previously if you want, so you can verify personally.

Like you said: "it's extremely slim that this is going to happen. And if it does, contacting our support desk and letting us know the writer's name and price of the article will always result in:

Brad, I can understand why you said what you said in the last post. There might be people trying to tarnish your website reputation, however, that does not mean everyone out there is trying to do that. Like you said, chances are slim such thing will happen, but that also means it can happen sometimes.

Anyway, I got a new response from your helpdesk today saying that they are going to refund me for that article. Looks like Charles took the time this round to verify my case.

Thanks and have a great day, Brad. =)

I once used my own article as a reference for another article I was writing. Funny thing is, I did a search in the search engines and pulled it up and it took me a while to realize that it was something I had ghostwritten. I've populated the internet! Lol.

I have to chime in here to say that writing an article is not about copying from other sources. Article writers use other sources for research, but that's not the same as copying what someone else has written.

Agree that cheap iwriter content should really be referred to irewriter. I only use top rated iwriter content writers that I have used previously for some of my content. And even then it still needs a lot of proofing.

There are no short cuts for quality content. Learn how to structure an article and then write about topics you have a passion for.

Let me guess. This goes for all your articles and your WSO too?

If you ever get interested enough in writing to look up the definitions of words you'll find that writing is much different from copying and editing.

It's surprising how many people are into something weird and assume that everyone is like them, so they must be doing it too.

Sorry, I disagree. I usually don´t write articles, only reports or ebooks. But when I do write articles, they are always 100% unique - same with the reports and ebooks.

A writer doesn´t use sources to copy or edit. We use different sources to understand the subject, then write from a new angle.

To the OP, I haven´t tried it, but this issue appeared in Tiff blog some time ago...

Real writers can write articles, blogs, PRs, bok report, etc. even without a source just the basic information they need as well as the stock knowledge they have. Do not mistake REAL WRITERS with REWRITERS.

woah!! wait there!! you can write from the top of your head, IF you already researched the same topic some other time. Unless you imply all real writers are claircognicient? well.. not even in that case.

What is very different between a writer and a re-writer is the definition of research and the writing process.

We've used iWriter extensively with very few bad incidents. We have had articles that were poor, were copied, etc...but we've used them for a long time and have ordered thousands of articles.

I'd mention this - I'm not sure how Brad and iWriter check articles in Copyscape, but we've noticed a significant difference when we ran the ENTIRE article through Vs. running paragraphs through Copyscape. Sometimes, Copyscape would let the entire article through, but when we checked paragraphs it would notice that larger portions of those paragraphs were copied elsewhere...that might be something you want to check out on your own.

Anna got attacked for this a bit (and I don't think she meant it the way I'll describe it) but there IS some truth to this, right?

Not in the way she mentioned, but everything I've written about has stemmed from other things I've read or heard in the past. I may have some original ways of putting it together...but it's a combination of my experiences that led me to write what I've written, eh?

Hey, Brad, here are a few suggestions:
          • IP's blocked in the Philippines - We've had intermittent problems trying to access iWriter from the Philippines. (SmartBro and Globe connections blocked, but PLDT up?) It's forced us to have our agents that are logging in and ordering/paying for content have to use proxies. Should have that looked at/fixed.
          • Affiliate Program - I'm guessing your margins are pretty tight, but if your growth slows and you plan on raising prices, consider giving some back in the form of affiliate commission to those promoting the service. (As you grow, I'm guessing you can make additional money on the float? On the money that's on deposit with you?)
          • Premium Content - We're in the market for high-end, premium, well-researched and documented content. I'm not sure this is something iWriter should chase after as it seems a bit outside your scope, but I'll ask selfishly anyway. :-)

Hey, thanks for your suggestions. Below are my comments to each:

            1. Yeah, it's not that the Philipines are banned. Much of the Philipines uses iWriter daily. It just so happens that the IP class that you were using is blocked by iWriter. Due to... drum roll please... A spammer. Not much we can do about this. I'd like to block a single IP, but that isn't a viable option says "smart developers".

            2. You're in luck because we just added an affiliate program! See here:
            2012-12-07_1051 - callenb's library And we split profits 50/50 :-)

            3. We thought about adding a higher tier where only writers with 4.9 rating and something like 30 completed articles can see these. Not sure what criteria, but basically something very difficult to achieve. And then charging "premium prices". My only fear there is it would lower the value of being an Elite writer... We could bump up the criteria for being an Elite writer, and also bump up the prices for that. Would that work for you? We would need to think A LOT on this, but would that solution be feasible if we went with it?

            Thanks again!

Even though iwriter is competition for my own article writing service. I cannot really see any product or service offered by Brad Callen to not be up to scratch.

I have dealt with Brad on occasions and he always comes across as an honest guy.

We have written articles ourselves from scratch and then put them through Copyscape as a final check. Even though some articles are written totally from scratch and not copied, they can sometimes fail Copyscape.

You have to remember, thousands of articles are written and distributed every day, some text will always come back as not unique first time. We as writers then have to adjust articles to become unique.

I have to agree. I spent over an hour writing an article from scratch. It passed through iWriter but the requester rejected it saying that it was spun. This was my first ever rejected article.

The article subject (hearing loss) is really straight forward and has specific causes that need to be stated.

There are numerous articles on the subject and they all basically state the same facts. Since iWriter didn't flag the article, I thought it passed Copyscape and was fine. It would have been nice to know what parts of the article they considered spun. I could have made some revisions.

iwriter is a great place if you want constant supply of articles for your site but expecting complete unique content is bull****, nobody can do Phd researches in 3hours and for $2.43 In your case it is not the fault of iwriter, when you correct the rephrased article for grammar issues, there is a good chance for you to rewrite it in a way published before. When you submit this to copyscape again, your article will be shown as plagiarized. iwriter is definitely a good place but they need to revise their time limit and pays.

No, writing is not about copying or rewriting. If one is not familiar with a topic, one can look for resources or references (online or offline), but I don't think one should just rehash the content.

    Hi everyone,

Here's my recent experience with iwriter.com. (My story may be subjective, and perhaps I should call myself "unlucky" since I've been happy with iwriter all this while till this incident...)

I've been using iwriter.com for a while now and on my last article that I sent in for rewriting, someone had merely replaced a few phrases here and there and manage to pass the iwriter's inbuilt copyscape check to sell the "rewritten" article back to me.
Naturally, I trusted copyscape and bought the rewritten copy, only to my dismay that almost 80-90% of the work is duplicate content from the web, 30% from this webpage, 20% from another webpage and so on.

I've written to iwriter helpdesk to highlight this and ask if I can have a rewrite, and here was their response:

"Hi, chances are that the content was simply keywords that were repeated. There isn't anyway to contact the writer after you have approved. Sorry.

I was quite disappointed with their customer service when things go wrong. And still, they are trying to sell me more of their services before they've even resolved my problem. Landslide in confidence towards iwriter.com, with this kind of "brushing the matter off" attitude.

I've replied to their helpdesk again asking them to investigate into the integrity of their copyscape function within iwriter. Let's see what they say now.

If you are using iwriter, please do check your article on copyscape yourself in case such situation is more rampant than we actually know. It is common for us to trust that iwriter's copyscape check would be more or less foolproof, and not do the checks ourselves so we'll never know. Perhaps it's a one-off case - a system glitch/limitation, or it could be more frequent. Regardless, I'm truly disappointed with the kind of support I was given. I fear that my future articles would have the same problem and I will not get my money back. Unfortunately for me, looks like getting a refund this time is bleak.

Do you also have the same experience of getting an article with lots of plagiarized content?

Yeah, thanks for the reminder, icoachu...I wouldn't make such things up. It really happened to me.

Abdul, good for you...I wished it never happened to me, I had been using iwriter for a while, happy with it until this. I understand that nothing is perfect, so I was really ok with what happened, so long we get it fixed thereafter (i.e.refund or a better article) and we'll move on. Unexpectedly, I was given such a reply by the helpdesk.

I even wrote to the writer, attach my own copyscape report and asked him/her nicely to amend it...(although not hopeful he/she would do it since he's/she's already got the money). Till date (it's been 3 weeks), I've yet got anything back from the writer. I think i've been reasonably patient or "stupid" (for waiting so long)...lol. haha

You don't have to check anything. This poster is making a 100% false claim. Feel free to check it out yourself by signing up as a writer and then submitting duplicate content. ALL articles are Copyscape checked. It blows my mind that when someone posts something on a forum everyone immediately believes the person because it's in a post.

What he is saying is NOT true. We pay large amounts of money to run every single submission through Copyscape. If anyone would know what happens, it's me, because it comes out of our pocket.

Yes that's why my 5th or so article also ended up being 100% copied and passed through copyscrape nonetheless.

Very unlucky if it should only happen 0,03% of the time like you claim.

I have a feeling the true percentage that slips through is quite a bit higher then what you make it out to be, this isn't the first complain about iwriter on that front.

I still use iWriter now and again though, but I only work with favourite writers and on regular base I read the feedback on their pages to see if anything sketchy is going on as I simply don't have the time to check every single article.

Someone made a comment about Elite writers, I've used these as well and 20-30% of the Elite writers produce garbage, I have no idea how they end up with Elite ratings but well, I suppose they have some "friends" helping out, there are whole VA / datacenters out there in India that can easily produce dozens of accounts from several IP's and such. What also happens quite often is that a writer is actually a writing company that has a good account and outsources it to his employees. I had this quite a few times and when I complained and rejected the content improved big time all of a sudden, definitely someone else who wrote it.

Obvious iWriter can't do a thing about that.

I have used iWriter twice and I didn't really like the quality of the content. Been using one writer since the last 3 years. Been satisfied with her work. Does top notch work. I don't mind paying a buck extra or so but content is the king so I need top quality.

iwriter is a good platform for articles with quick TAT, they just provide a medium to bring writers and requesters together. They are not to blame for anything that may go wrong. You will find both honest and dishonest writers and requesters on any system. They have made everything simple for requesters, you don't have to pay until you have read the article, checked it and approved it. If you find issues with any article, simply don't approve it.

I think part of the problem is most people here are wanting writing done for peanuts. Quality writing usually demands a decent price.

The main problem is to make a project profitable. If you have someone who is a great marketer and knows his trade, he can afford to pay the real value of articles and deal with professional writers.

Those who are not that great, need to cut expenses to compensate for their limitations. 4 out of 5 times the project will fall apart anyway.

well the beauty is you can always reject these writers after reading it. If you don't know how to read then goodness gracious why even own a business. Anyways I've found wonderful writers and those I put on my favorite list so I can request them to write for my articles

I have a question about copyscape check.
I have written an article on "Search engine optimization for Dummies" keyword. The problem is I used, obviously, the keyword in the article and copyscape considers it as duplicate content. What can I do? I can't simply erase the keyword, as that will result in my article being rejected. This is very frustrating.
    Thank you!

You don't have to check anything. This poster is making a 100% false claim
Nothing works 100% so why are you guys ganging up on the poster? If the guy says he received a bad article, then he probably did. There is nothing wrong with that, nothing is error proof

We are talking about pennies here, no need for the insults...

    Hi,
I have recently started used iWriter. They are very fast and you have a wide different of prices but theres is a big problem , for me. You can't validate articles through copyscape before you accept them (so you can download) I have just received an article that is 15% similar to another article in the net.
I contact the writer and he told me that he would "rewrite" the area that I would like to be rewritten. But that's not efficient at all.
I have just open a ticket at iWriter Tickets platform about this problem. I will post the update .

There is text that cannot pass Copyscape and if you were to edit such text to pass Copyscape, you would end up with another problem. For example, names of organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

The update of the situation I explained before.
So iWriter Support Team replied me. They explained that iWriter pass all articles automatically through copyscape and every article have to be under 3% of copied content. Although they analyze for at least group of 4 words. In my case I have 15% of copied content but they were groups of 3 words so the copyscape test passed .
They verified the writer account and realized that he had similar problems like this before, so they found that he have been tricking the copyscape validation with this and other tricks. They have cancelled is account and refund my money.

I recently had about a few articles written by Iwriter.

One of the 1000 word articles I had written had about 20 percent of the article directly copied from other sites.

Basically, one of the testimonials and a couple bullet list was copied directly from other sites.

So like they say that it may be copyscape checked I believe it still needs a lot of improvement in how it is happening.

With that said the rest of the article was well written so I just made corrections to the article and used it anyways.

But the copyscape check on the site does need improvement in my opinion.

I will say I did get my articles back pretty quickly and would still use the site again in the future.

The one thing I didn't like about the site is I noticed that the writers would put it in their work que and take it off the market so other writers couldn't get it to work on. And on more than a couple times they would leave it in their pile and not do the article and it would eventually get put back into the pile so other writers could do the work.

It would be better if they take a project to do then they are committed to finish it rather than being able to let it expire and the entire process starts over looking for a new writer.

I agree with the above poster that said you should find a way for us to run it through copyscape before accepting them. To expect someone to have to go through support to report writers is the one thing that makes me really not to want to use the site.

Before I answer the question below, it's worth mentioning that this thread is 1.5 years old and was just dug up the other day. So, it's not really relevant to today's iWriter, at all.

Hi Terry, thanks for using iWriter. We use the Copyscape API and run 100% of articles through Copyscape. (Paying the Copyscape fees out of our pockets) If you're a writer and you try to submit an article and it doesn't pass Copyscape, we highlight the exact phrases or words that caused the article to not pass.

If you want to test it out yourself, try to write an article for someone and submit a copied article, and you'll see what happens.

If you were to run an article through Copyscape yourself, manually, you would get the exact same results that we get. I'm not exactly sure how running it through Copyscape yourself would do any good, other than cost you money? I'm more than happy to do this, but I suppose I don't see the point?

Much appreciation for using iWriter, and I'm glad you ended up with what you wanted.

I really think you shouldn't advertise your service as passing copyscape because the 1000 word article I got back had over 20 percent duplicate content.

After reading that your service checks copyscape for you I wasn't really expecting it to come back with obvious blocks of text failing copyscape when I ran it myself.

Maybe my article was a fluke and somehow copyscape missed it. I don't know. But it really did hurt the credibility of your service in my view.

I would stop telling new customers that it is checked when obviously there is an error in their api that isn't catching stuff good.

But like I said above, I did like the article just the results from the copyscape put a little bit of a sour taste in my mouth.

You are more than welcome to check the articles in my account if you want to see that it failed for yourself. My username on your system is articleguy777 and there is only a few articles in the account.

But like you said, maybe the copyscape told the writer about the duplicate content and the writer just didn't update their article.

Terry, I did not say that we would show them what areas are duplicate and then allow them to ignore it and submit it. A writer cannot submit an article if it fails our Copyscape check through their API. It's impossible. If an article fails a Copyscape API check, it is not possible to be submitted by our system. The writer can continue trying as many times as they want, and each time, they are charged 5 cents for the check. After so many failed attempts their account is banned and they can no longer write on iWriter. Like I mentioned earlier, you can feel free to try to submit a copied article on iWriter and watch the process yourself.

Again, all articles are Copyscape checked via their API by iWriter before they are submitted. Stating that they are not is simply untrue and misleading. We are one of Copyscape's largest clients and pay big $$ to use their service as a benefit to our customers.

Before posting again, stating that we do not check Copyscape, please try and submit a duplicate article into our system for someone and watch what happens.

The you received is a product review which has some product bullet points of items inside the actual product that can't exactly be reworded. It looks as if they were taken from the product page themselves.

    1. Girl Get Rings Manual
    2. Masculine Hero Avatar MP3
    3. Clean Slate Method
    4. Long distance Relationship Secrets
    5. The 7 Biggest Mistakes Women Make With Their Online Profile
    6. From Conflict To Compassionate Communication

These are key items inside the product and can't exactly be reworded. I would guess that what you're seeing is because of the specific topic you chose and it is indeed a "fluke" as you called it. This is not duplicate content and I can see why it did pass the Copyscape API. Google would never see this as duplicate content.

    Thank you.

There was 2 bullet lists and a testimonial copied exactly. Which consisted of 20 percent of the article.

And to say that it is not easily able to be rewritten by the writer is untrue. I rewrote the duplicate stuff myself in about 5 minutes.

Anyway, if it was too difficult for them to rewrite they should of just left it out and wrote something else. They was just being lazy.

When I ran it through copyscape my self it flagged those big blocks of text as duplicate.

I don't think it would of been to difficult for your writer to rewrite the portion of the article that was showing as duplicate.

Just have some humbleness man and admit your system isn't perfect.

I just checked my "elite" article I ordered on iWriter. About 20% is directly copied from one source. I suspect that the rest is rewritten. Not cool.

I just have an elite article downloaded from iWriter today and when I put it in to Copyscape, it shows "6 results found for the text you pasted". The article is 5% matched.
I have contacted iWriter support desk to see why this happened.
