So far, so good...(newbie update)

Well, this first week has been a steep learning curve, but fun.

I still have a lot of ideas to pursue, but decided to dip my toes in the water and try setting up a site. Being a complete novice, I'm pleased with the skills its given me. I've registered my domain, sorted out hosting, done pdf conversion, purchased PLR content, studied up on FTP and downloaded NVU. Phew!

Tomorrow I'll be putting meat on the bones, but for now very pleased with myself.

When people say they literally started from scratch and it is possible to build up an online business from nothing, I can now verify its true !!

    Good for you.
Are you planning to rewrite that PLR?

If you just paste the PLR onto your pages then your site will fail. Re write everything original content rules.

Great job!! Yes, it took me forever to figure out things like hosting....

I agree with others, re-write your PLR. It's not hard at all. You don't have to completely re-write it. Just do some re-writing of some sentences, tweak a few others. Make sure overall it "says" the same thing if you want, but not in the same words. Google won't like your site if you don't.

The beauty of PLR is it makes writing easy but you do still need to write just a touch or you'll be in trouble if you don't (your site will, I mean. No one will come knocking on your door. ).

You should be really, really proud of yourself. Feels good doesn't it?

Well done for taking the bull by the horns. With that mindset and determination you'll do well!

      Good luck

its no business until you've got your first paying customer
if you need some original content for your site it might be worth to ya to check out elance or odesk and hire someone for a few bucks to write some real original content for you...

Great job! I actually just did my first site this week too Was awesome to finally learn and implement those things, like buying hosting, editing the website and uploading it to the public.

Great job. Do not give up, too many times people give up right before the BIG ONE. So go nuts and you will see some massive results. Many smart warriors here to help you if you find a bump or two in the road. But cheers and good luck.

That's determination. And once you've completed your site, you can then retrace your steps and see what you can tweak and improve. Then do the little bit harder things like monetise your site and get it ranking higher in the google searches. There's always something new to learn on the WWW.

Thanks for the encouragement and advice everyone. Took a step back today, to let all the info I've absorbed 'breathe' a little, allows you to regain a little focus I find. Tonight will read through the PLR I purchased and edit/ improve (if its already really well written, which this seems to be, do the changes need to be made? I've spotted a few bits here and there to change but mainly cosmetic)
also will look at starting up a blog site as my secondary project, which I will write some original content for, and chop up and use some e-book material for (permissions allowing of course). Just sketching that out right now, but will eventually loosely tie the blog and site together (same overall niche subject)
it won't last, but its been fun stretching myself out of my normal comfort zone, and if nothing else have learnt a whole new skill set, and discovered a whole new community I previously knew nothing of!

Good idea to take a step back. I find that when I force myself to take a day off, the next day I am more productive, focused and ready to get to work.

The PLR you bought was probably purchased by many other people. The content will not be unique. You should change it and add your "voice" to the content.

Starting a blog is a good idea. If you can't write your own content to make sure it is updated regularly, find someone who can write for you.

It's fun learning new stuff, isn't it?

Set some goals and the way you intend to achieve your goals.

One thing that helps me tremendously is every night I write down 5 things that I will accomplish the next day. Sometimes I don't finish the 5 things and I try not to be too hard on myself. The main reason I do the 5 things is so that I am focused first thing in the morning and don't waste too much time cruising the internet.

Keep us posted. You can do anything you set your mind to.

Very impressive. You have already made it past many people who would have quit before they made it this far.

Everyone is right. Drive traffic and build your list. Be patient and continue to work hard and it will all pay off.

Great Job! Keep it up and focus on it. Do everything possible that's legal of course, to make money out of it Your difficult but very rewarding journey has just started. Don't expect that it's like a walk in the park. Be patient and I'm sure success won't be that far.

It's very easy to find writers who will put together articles. I would stay away from PLR content. Especially after the Panda update. You need well written engaging content to get anywhere now.
