How big do I need to get my list before emailing out the product?

I'm looking to build a list and maintain users' interest through providing regular, quality content via email. Eventually, once my list is big enough, I'm going to bomb them with a product.

Do I want 1 thousand, 10 thousand, or 50 thousand people on my list? My product is likely to cost from $59-259 (yet to evaluate that).

Things to consider? Can my server handle 10 thousand requests? Would it be bad for the server to crash if that many people were connecting? I don't want them having to wait for the server to free up, they might lose interest.

Start straight away, why delay? The people on your list do not know if they are the first or # 104,219

And an advise, use aweber for your list.

I started promoting my own products when my list got to 100. But really I can remember promoting an affiliate product to my first 5 subscribers lol. And I actually made a sale.

So it's never too early to start.

Problem with sending out the product immediately is that people who entered the list early may be sent the product over and over again. I kind of want to compile a list just for tips/tricks/keep their interest and then blast out a product. That the right way of going about it?

You need to look up how autoresponders work.

Set up an autoresponder that will mail out your email to people say, 5 days after they opt in (send them some good quality filler articles, or your tips and tricks, for the first few days). They will only get the email five days after they sign up.

Oh, so I can say something like this:

For every individual member who signs up, for the first 9 days, send them articles and tips/tricks to get them interested. Then on the 10th day, send them the product?

Seems like a good idea. I was kind of excited for the 'big day' when you send the product out and make thousands overnight, but I guess it would be simpler to go for this residual income method instead. I can still tell my list that there will be a product launched on 'x December 2012' or something like that to get that effect.

        Thanks.
