Did PayPal just put a new fee in place or something?

I just got a $240 payment from a client... Ended up becoming $230. I checked the details, and it said there was a $9.66 fee taken off. I have taken much bigger payments than this before, and do not recall any such fee. Am I missing something?

  • Probably a credit card payment: 3.9% + 30c.
  • Yes, I think it's 9.36 (3.9%) + 0.3
  • You didnt miss anything. 3.9%+30 cents is common in terms of paypal fee while paying with credit card.
  • Also, if the other payments were sent using mass pay, or sent as personal payments, then those fees wouldn't be there.

If you ever need to calculate fees (in either direction), then I highly recommend the following PayPal calculator.

(I am not associated with it in any way, just a handy tool I like to use)

    All the best,

  • Credit card payments. Ask your client to pay using his PayPal balance or bank account next time.

    • You mean the buyers? No, the buyer has paid the amount asked, but the vendor when setting the price hasn't factored in the CC charge.

I don't believe the buyer in this case has had to pay anything extra.

  • I have used paypal for alot of years and never noticed this either I guess from now on I will pay closer attention. Is there any other charges that us users might need to be aware off?

    • It also depends how you transfer money to someone else, not necessarily buying anything, if you want to transfer money to someone to help them out because they're in a financial pickle, send the money as a gift, paypal won't charge anything.
