CommentLuv . . . Asking for Spam or a Worthwhile AddOn?

Curious to hear experiences. Thinking about loading the free version to test.

If you have it . . do you get spam and does it slow down the loading of your site?

I have the premium so I cant speak for the free version, but my version has a built in spam reader.

I've not had it long enough to gauge the scrapebox spammers though.

I think the benefits are worth it.

commentluv is a very worthwhile addon, no you don't get spam and no it doesn't slow your site down.

Fin . . . thanks for the recommendation.

Wizzard74 . . . good to know it hasn't slowed your site down and that you recommend it.

Currently 70% of the comments on my site are worthless. I am interested in getting better comments. The sites are health and travel related.

Would you say that CommentLuv has helped you gain more traffic and get better comments?

Yes, it does attract more spam and yes it does attract more useful comments. Try using it with some kind of spam filter or captcha to cut down on the spam traffic.

It works very well and kudos to Andy Bailey.

Spam is not a problem, I just get the odd or two, but when I get a spam comment I email the owner and politely tell them to stop ******* spamming before they mess up another great resource, I then go on to list all the other sites they have messed up and why they find it really hard now to make any money.
Having suitably chastised them I go on to point out the benefits of putting their spamming efforts into building a proper business.
Just occasionally I get a grovelling apology and/or a thankyou.

Blogs I care about are manually approved anyway. So with doing it that way... the plugin is definitely fine.

Thanks everyone . . . the general consensus was "worthwhile plugin." I will install and see how it goes. I can always remove if I get too spammed.

You're going to receive a flood of spam. But don't take my word for it. Just do a search for lists of commentluv blogs that were created a couple years ago, then see how many are still using commentluv.

That will tell you a lot.

As far as getting more 'good' comments, keep in mind the only people who search for 'commentluv' sites are Internet marketers and spammers.

        Actually, that's not true.

I know where you're coming from. Commentluv of yesteryear is completely different to what it is now.

I'm sure people won't give it a try as they have this preconceived notion that it's only purpose is do-follow links.

        Pity.

Was having some problems with getting the last 10 links. Read this in a support forum:

<<CommentLuv cannot be used on free hosted WordPress.com blogs. It's a plugin for WordPress.org installs. >>

My site uses free software hosted on my own server. Bummer!!!!!!!!!!! I read a lot of articles on it and never read that until now.

CommentLuv lasted for less then a day.

You're contradicting yourself, you say you've got your own server so you can use it, or are you saying you have a wordpress.com blog?

    I use a similar plugin...KeywordLuv.

Yes. "Linkout" plugins definitely attract more spam, but they attract more legit comments also which can add great UGC to your blog as well as increase your ping rate.

Google likes relevant keyword rich UGC and they like to see that your site is active..it helps the behavioral metrics.

If you have a self-hosted Wordpress blog (i.e. your own domain), it will work fine for you.

I've been using the premium version for a while and like it. I also use Akismet to filter spam so I haven't noticed a huge increase in spammy comments. If anything, I think it encourages people to comment. And if you do find that some spam comments are still getting approved, you can manually delete them.

Try it out. If you don't like it you can remove it.

Wanted to update everyone about CommentLuv. I took the Askimet suggestion and so far 100% of my spam hits the spam folder. All I have to do is clean. Love that addition with or without CommentLuv.

Comment Luv has generated a little more traffic but nothing to write home about. For sure, I haven't gotten any more spam.

Would say it is worthwhile. The community does great comments. If I have the time . . . I will write an article for them which should get my site more traffic.

Commentluv is quite nice but lately 100% of the comments I've had are automatically generated spam. If it continues I'll remove the plugin as the authors don't seem to have kept on top of the anti-spam precautions.

But a lot of site owners use Akismet and other forms of spam protection that will get IP's/Email addresses blacklisted

I like commentluv before but I see that this plug-in has already evolved from being useful to nothing. I won't personally install this plug-in because of obvious reasons. Commentluv is good if you are only willing to spend money on it. Free version just won't cut it.
