Know your market, build relationships...the rest is elementary

So last week I met up with an old friend of mine who was signalling an SOS because of a change in structure in commission payments at his work.

Basically for the past month he has been stressing because his real estate business is expanding and commission performance and target sales will make or break his employment position within the company.

So after 2.5 hours, I showed him my online strategy and what I have been building up since starting IM, and needless to say, he was like a kid in a candy store. A whole new way of thinking opened up for him (he is pretty smart business wise), just not in the way us internet marketers think.

I was surprised he had not built a solid list, and had never kept a 'relationship' with old and prospective clients. The phone was his go-to method.

I implemented a landing page with video and property listings so when his database of clients subscribe they will be brought to that. He tells me already this week his phone has been ringing non-stop

It's so true, we often get caught up with all the hype and newest methods in IM but core research in knowing your market and having a strategy in whatever online/offline business you have is often the most crucial part in success.

(/end of my feel good story hehe)

Nice! It always feels good to help a friend (or stranger) out! I can't wait to be successful in IM, so I can help my family and friends out to. But I gotta do it first!

^You'd be surprised how much momentum you can gather, just by learning abit everyday. I actually studied marketing about 8 years ago but I was young and didn't take it too seriously, but now I think I've learned 10 times more off sites like the Warrior forum and such

Sometimes you really don't need to make $$ to feel good about what we're doing. But the validation of knowing you are learning and helping others feels just as good if not better

Congratulations, Visualju. And, I bet as you showed him what you are doing, some new ideas came to you! That is the thing about teaching. You often learn as much as your student. ... The fact is, sometimes we need to go back to the fundamentals of our business, and apply them. We often find fancy new ways to do someting, when the simple fundamentals that got us there might be better!

Jase, don't get discouraged! Your day will come.

It's what you do when no one is watching
that determines what you will be able to
    do when everyone is watching.

Yes definitely, new ideas were coming in left right and center. I actually thought I could be offering small business owners for this advice and then charging them for my services

Indeed. it's very true. Just think about what your customers will want rather than what you want and you pretty much are guaranteed success.

Hey Visual, well said. Quite a number of folks (including myself ) keep looking for that "one special formular" to give us an edge and we sometimes forget the basics.

    Well said!

Hi everyone, the main thing is don't give up if you have tried things that haven't worked over a sustained period then analyse your business model and see where you are going wrong and ineed where you are going good and adapt. I myself have done this and it's improving my business constantly. I am also fortunate enough to have Alex Jeffreys as my mentor which clearly helps things. The main thing is don't be one of the majority who in 6 to 9 months give up because it's not working it can and will work as long as you are really willing to improve your online businesses!
