Would this be doable?

I don't know HTML or PHP but can I sell prepackaged themes and host it on my server and provide the domain name, customize the theme and make the website for businesses and charge for it?

I bought subscription to elegant themes and made 3 sites. everydayreviews.net, askcruisers.com, and bestproposalideas.com. very comfortable with tweaking, editing, etc. I would be very comfortable making a site for a local business.
$500 for a year. includes website, domain, and hosting. $120 for every yr following that. good idea or terrible idea?

    Totally doable.

The only thing I would seriously consider is just how downright demanding some of your customers may become. Some will want changes and additions etc. constantly and although that may be fine if you have just a few clients, when your business grows, you may suddenly find yourself not only working non stop, but working for peanuts as well.

NOTE: I wasn't completely clear on your planned setup, but if your customers are in control of their own content, then you will have a much better time of it.

    Hope that helps.

Yes you would definitely have to watch out for this ^^.

One idea might be say that the $120 covers hosting and server administration only and perhaps X number of free edits, after that each new edit will be X$, but that gives you a problem if the editing takes many hours to complete. A safer option would be to charge an hourly rate for editing.
Perhaps you will get some other ideas from other Warriors on what is the probable best approach.

I'm not too sure about industry standard as far as price goes, but I can say this...

If it's WordPress that you're offering, there is a steep learning curve for the average person and one that may cause you and your support a lot of grief. Places like Wix are perfect for them.

Secondly, if clients have a good handle on WordPress, they can get pretty much everything you're offering for $99.00 per year. Bottom of this page: https://en.wordpress.com/signup/

It is, but at the same time, there's people that don't know the difference between a post and a page. Those are the ones you need to watch out for.
