      Thanks for the link!

I was walking through some Business Timeline Pages yesterday, figuring out what I did and didn't like. Came to a lot of the same conclusion HubSpot did including the use of app images and names as call to actions.

Being that you can't add contact information or call to actions in your cover photo you will really need to cleverly consider how to "wow" visitors with just an image and then immediately draw their attention down to the rest of your content.

Using strong imagery to draw the eye to the apps section can really give you a chance to say a whole lot more. It's like a site menu asking visitors to "delve deeper into what makes this page special". These are the additional "pages" on your faceBook "site" that you get to customize for 100% uniqueness.

The Timeline itself reminds me of a "magazine" or "newspaper" depending on whether you place emphasis on imagery or text.

As a visually creative person I'm liking the Timeline layout better than the old. It's easier to make things "pop" off the page. And in the end I think it will make it easier for users to engage with content and get more involved with your business. Well, that's depending on the "story" you choose to tell within your timeline.

      Lots more possibilities...

They're beautiful, but aren't they playing fast and loose with the rules by including contact information? Facebook clearly said no on that. (I thought. Correct me if I'm misunderstanding it.)

        Thanks for the compliment.

Well, I've seen some topics discussing that, about Advertising in Facebook Covers, and leaving contact information, etc...
I haven't seen a very solid conclusion as to if this is fully disallowed or not.

If Facebook begins to take action on people for this, I'll make sure to let others know about it.

Sometimes they throw in those rules for their own reasons and safety, but I doubt they can really monitor that mass 800 Million people, and stop people from Advertising in their Cover.

Probably the larger brands would want to play it safe.

As the Timeline Cover is also "Image Format", there's no way Facebook can Automatically detect who is advertising on their Timeline or not.

What do you think about the new Ban on commercial Marketing on Covers?

There appears to be some changes that will effect the way you can use Cover images.

Hopefully they will change that because it is really limiting.

I logged in to my FB fanpage yesterday and saw the message displayed, inviting me to preview the new design, but I didn't have time for that then.

Since then, I've logged on to the page several times and the message has never re-appeared. I've checked through the various options, but can't find any way to see this new set-up. Any suggestions?

Not sure if you got this resolved. If not, what you want to do is
        1. go to Introducing New Facebook Pages | Facebook
        2. and click "preview your page"
if you're already in your page and want to take a longer approach
        1. click the "edit page" button
        2. click "help" at the bottom left menu
        3. on this page you'll see a message that says "facebook pages has a new look..."
        4. click on "the preview the new design" link inside that message
        5. from there click on "preview your page"

Thanks for this link, very useful guide! I'm currently against Timeline for business pages....doesn't make much sense to me. Especially the way they marketed Timeline for user profiles as being a sort of personal diary of events in your life. How in any way does that apply to a business?

But I see what they're trying to do and as Internet marketers we've gotta adapt! I'm surprised they are being strict about contact info and CTAs on the cover photos but we'll see what happens.

    Thanks again!

I think that we look up the timeline as a collection of memories. These are our opinions, jokes and experiences. it is often mentioned at the hospice how a person's loss of their memories loses for them all their relationships and connections. Remaining connected, but thoroughly "off-leash," meaning wireless and mobile, we enter into a new way of finding social connection. Facebook particularly wants to encourage marketers to think in terms of their own narrative. If I have a sales message for young parents, we begin by talking about junior. But then he's suddenly in kindergarten and now he's graduating college. Boom! Timeline is memories. Through those memories we get little images like Ovaltine and Aunt Jemima Pancakes. Comfort food for 8-year olds. In the early 1960's. It's a snapshot. Share these!

What we have to really connect with is our own evolution as marketers, opinion makers or family members. Your services were juvenile when you started out. Your evolution seems perhaps amusing since now your skills are so much greater. So we look at the 1967 Mustang and whistle. "They sure don't make cars like they used to." (It was dark brown with a beige top) Or baby pictures. Or opening day pictures. Our evolution through the experience of time, is key.

It's interesting the vast changes these evolutions bring. In marketing we must take much more interest in the narrative that surrounds each product, that hooks the conversation, that leads to the sale. Facebooks' changes mean we must find our own valuable timeline in order to say in the marketplace, "We are continually evolving... come and watch how!"

Facebook has literally broadened our horizons. That sniveled, insufficiently exciting left navigation with our tabs is gone. In its place is the postage stamp set-ins in rows of four. There's where you put little calls to action! and it's your app! in an outstandingly attractive right-side design where a little graphic art goes a hell of long way. It's the number two spot the eyes settle after breathing in the entire scope of the cover horizon so wide. Upset about your peek-a-boo "Welcome!" page? That's Facebook's point. They are taking us off the teat. No more marketing-marketing. Yes to Narrative Marketing. Tell us the story of how you came to your conclusions, that's your time line. Tell us about your childhood, or your first sale or your first love affair, but don't try to sell me anything. Your knack for finding the narrative is key. Let Facebook push you in the direction you need to go, anyway!
