My video got 1.1 million views - now what?!

Ok, here's a brainstormer.

I made two videos for my eBay mini-site (ala Joel Peterson Minisite Formula a couple years back). I snagged a great product domain name. Keyworded everything very well.

And these past six months, both videos went viral, posting over 1.1 million views between the two. Turns out that as an eBay partner site, it kinda stinks. But the videos are doing 75,000+ views a month for the last several months.

Here's my question. How would you monetize this?

The domain is a perfect .com product name for their flagship product.

How would I pitch this to the company that owns the product? Is this monetizable in any other way? License the site and videos?

Love any and all ideas!

Doug

YouTube thinks 1,000 views is worth about $1.00 — if you join their partner network. That's one way.

What you have is a wave. Don't think that you'll stay at 75,000 views a month.

What I would really try to do is capture the essence of how you got 1.1 mil views and write a tutorial about making videos go viral. Sell that. Or better yet, do it again — this time with a monetized model. IE, affiliate link in the description, or get paid by company BEFORE making the "viral video" — a prodution fee, and then say $10.00 per 1,000 views it gets.

Great ideas. I don't believe the $10 per k is going to sell as much as the technique that you used to get there. You could charge way more if you do this multiple times (improve the track record). Way to go man, that isn't an easy feat!

Geesh! You are getting that many views and you haven't monetized it yet???

Whatever you can offer this market, build a list, put up a squeeze page for that and get opt ins.

Use the same domainname you have and just add this page at domainname.com/freegift or something like that.

Once you have that particular domain all set up, put that domain name at the very beginning and at the very end of the video description.

Also, change the video and add this domain name with the squeeze page url at the beginning and end of the video with a fun call to action.

Once you get people to go to the site and sign up, you can market related things to them in the emails after you give them some valuable information.

Lol! I know!! It was literally just sitting there since 2009 collecting a few hundred views here and there. The site was a disappointment. Few hundred bucks in Ebay commissions. Turns out the physical product is pretty unrealistic to ship via Ebay. So, I just left it. I look back in October and yikes. Redirected the domain to the Amazon affiliate link for the product and again, very little action. By Christmas, the pair of videos were pushing mid-six figure views. It's tapered off a bit in Feb, but not much.

I like TopKat and Studio13, excellent ideas. Thank you. I had considered the info product on making this video but without some more cash results, I was hesistant.

The majority of views are from 25-49 year olds with slight edge to the females. Its a kids product, quite popular.

Thanks for your input. Any other ideas welcome.

There is no technique that guarantees a viral video
so don't waste time with that. Beyond that I have no
idea what advice to give you... and neither does anyone
who's being honest... because you haven't told us anything
but some traffic numbers. Traffic numbers, alone, do not
    equal profits.

    What's the video about?

Regardless of what the video is about, he could build a list if he offered the audience something they want more of, even if it is just other similar videos and then have ads to other things in the follow up emails or newsletters.

It's a simple 2min slideshow video and voiceover, highlighting the pros/cons of this product, with a lower third link to my domain. The domain has been a Wordpress eBay partner site and an Amazon affiliate link directly to the products company on Amazon.

Traffic numbers definitely do not equal profits because this has been about a $300 a year site. Never expected it to be more than a few bucks a day or a gold mine but I never expected the videos to go viral either.

So the question is "what now". Is there opportunity worth pursuing?

My thought is to go right to the company marketing heads and offer the videos and the domain for a monthly fee, redirected to their best sales pages or wherever they would like.

And I like what I'm hearing here for possibilities too.
