Animated Sales Video. Where do you get them from?

Heya,

I usually tend to answer questions in this forum, but I have to ask this as I can't seem to find a good source anywhere.

I came across the sales video of ultimatedemon.com and seolinkmonster.com. They both seem very similar and catchy. I like that cartoon style.

I was wondering if someone here knows what software they used to create them.

In general I can't really find any good and easy to use software to create animated sales videos. I came across some companies that ask for over $1000 per minute for creating those sales videos. Others offer some rather cheap software that will probably scare away more customers than attract them.

So if anyone know's of a good software or of a good affordable company, please let me know.

Regards,
K

    Thanks Mbullard.
That's what I was afraid of, After Effects. I was hoping there might be some general, easier to use software out there that makes those kind of videos.

Might have a look at one of the outsourcing websites then.

Well — learning the video creation / editing craft CAN be fun. However, it's a skill which incorporates sound editing, syncing, storyboarding, visual arts, animation, timing, etc., etc. It's not "easy" by any means to create a video like the ones you mentioned above. You'll likely need After Effects and Final Cut — and maybe other software + training how to use that software if you want to create stop motion or actual frame-by-frame animations. The videos above just use single frames illustrations with motion zooms and pans. Real animation will probably cost you At $3,000 a minute, or $125-150 per full color frame.

I've done enough videos to know that depending on the complexity, just a 3 second clip with original 3D artwork, skins, HD rendering, etc can take you 8 hours+ to make.

If you can find a video template you like on videohive.com or one of the other After Effects template sites, you'll save a lot of money. Just buy the template ($15-35) and then outsource the work to somebody for $25.

Trying to get somebody to create an animated sales video from scratch will usually cost you a lot more.

I've always seen and like those videos myself and would love to know where to get them done as well.

The ones I particularly like is when you see a hand drawing the images while the video is playing. An example here here: Free Video for Women with Tips to Get a Flat Stomach

I keep toying with the idea of doing a video marketing company that specializes in making these videos.

Tutorials on how to make them -- and finally a service to actually make them. But truly, the time it takes to make them is vast. And -- art is largely perception. If there was a "winning formula" for creating these video sales letters, systematic, that may be the way to get into production.

Outsourcing is a better answer if budget is limited.

However, be careful of who you give the deal to. Preferably it is good to deal with someone who has experiences in commercial ad. industry or in making music video.

I wonder what everyone thinks a 2 minute 30 second video like this would cost? What's a "fair" price -- honestly -- in your minds?

You can create those types of videos in any software that supports a 3D environment. You don't need expensive programs like After Effects. In fact, you could do them using a free program like Blender.

However, and this is the biggy...you need talent and the skills to operate the software. No small feat.

Unless you plan on creating a slew of these types of videos your'e better off paying someone to have them done.

My guess is you'd be looking at upwads of $2000 for videos like those. But if the ROI is good, you just made a wise investment.

If you think that's too much to pay a creative artist, you should rethink their worth. Afterall, those videos caught your attention, and that's half the battle right there.

Well we don't know what it takes to make them so its hard for us to even estimate a price point. We just know we like them and would love to have them done.

Then again we want something affordable that will give us a good ROI

That depends on your starting point and your affinity to learn the software.

And your talent, which is the real make-or-break part of the equation.

You could probably make videos like the ones in the OP (assuming you have the ideas to put to pixel) after a hundred hours of concentrating on the aspects of the program (Blender) that would allow you to do those kinds of videos.

That's just a rough guess, btw, and keep in mind to get really good at Blender or any similar software it's a never ending process.

LOL -- start the timer. Tell me how long it takes you to make a cube rotate at the speed you want, rendered and exported into a codex that's supported by a video editor. Now try to skin that cube so it's not just gray/white.

If you can do that in less than 2 hours -- your off to a good start! But.... now try to do it with something other than a cube

LOL, boy isn't that the truth...:p

But with a little practice you can do some cool things with Blender.

Here are two images as examples that were built in Blender...(keep in mind I have a lot more than a few hundred hours under my belt using Blender )

(I'm a gearhead so I draw a lot of gearhead stuff. Since these are 3D models I also use them in video work.)

            Yea, that's all me.

Btw, it took me hundreds of hours to rack up hundreds of hours using that program, I didn't do it over a weekend.

Point being...in 6 months time an aspiring artist can, with a little persistance, learn any program. Those months are going to fly by whether you're watching TV or learning a new skill. You (meaning anyone) have the choice.

                  Excellent topic discussion ....
I and a friend are currently in the process of creating an animated video for our unique and never before seen video services (which includes animated videos....& ebook covers, book covers, banners, cd covers, headers) we plan to offer on Warriorforum...
We are doing everything ourselves, no templates involved, the plan so far...design characters, write script, create storyboard, create all 'actors' & elements involved (this is where we are).
The plan next...animate, render, upload. To do this we are using -
                  Illustrator
                  After Effects
                  Photoshop Extended
                  Final Cut
                  sound track pro
                  Pencil & Paper

Studio13 is right, this is what I love (I don't love voice over, which will be the part we are outsourcing), and I hope to be making a living doing it. By doing our own video first we can work out how long it would to take to make one, the problems and basically streamline the process. So far it has taken longer than excepted and was originally thinking about a price of $400 but so far i am thinking about $1000-2000 (maybe for 1 min or 1 video...I know someone that charges $10000 for something I can do myself with my eyes closed) special warriorforum price.
The reason is the amount of time & effort going into making this video (sorry) but after creating my own video, I would never do one for a low price.

As Bill said you can achieve the same effect in 3d software (I would use Maya...and would never go near open source software) but this would cost a lot more because you would have to first model 3d objects and the environment (would take a few months depending on the complexity of the scene...don't forget to model each facial expression), then rig each object (give them a 'skeleton' and attach the 'skin' to it so it would move), texture it (very complex to achieve the look of a 2d animation), animate, light your scene, render (you have to render in parts because your little desktop would prob run out of memory if you do it altogether), composite it back together, edit, sound etc....and this only me skimming through 3d animation. Each area (modelling, lighting, rigging etc...) is a specialise area in its self.
Yes I have done all the above as I have created so far two animated 3d videos (with friends) and it took about 6 months for just over 2 minutes

My rant over now...I am hoping to have the video finished in the next month and the service open for business, we are currently helping a director friend do visual effects & color grading for 2 short films he is making so we have to fit the video around this, hence the 1-2 months to finish the video.

Almost forgot...my director friend and I were discussing this the other day, he told me that its time to learn Maya, I pointed out that we know maya and would take care of what he needs and to stick to what he does best which is Direct! I put it to him in language he would understand - I can learn ANY scriptwriting software in weeks, but it doesnt mean I know how to write a script.

If you have any questions about 3d animation or 2d animation, after effects, Maya etc just ask and I will try and help. Sorry for the long post but its hard to stop when I start talking about animation

Lots of big, big numbers being thrown around in this thread. And I'm glad to see it

I've been a full time video producer for ten years. Spent most of the last five years working with Warriors creating sales and promotional videos. My experience is that clients willing to pay $1,000 or more for a video destined for a website are VERY difficult to find.

Creating a great promotional video takes more than just a skilled and talented video producer. The client plays an equally large role. If a client writes his or her own script, or hires a script writer, then I must develop a video that reinforces that script. Doesn't matter whether the script is good or bad.

If a client says "I'm on a very tight budget," then I have to design a video that uses techniques that are not time consuming. In other words, the less the client is willing to pay, the faster I have to finish the video.

The ideal client would allow me enough time to use more advanced techniques. The ideal client would be one who understands the importance of starting with a powerful script. Ideal clients are few and far between!

                      Steve R.

Shooting/3D animation is always the most expensive. Usually costs at least 3-4k per minute.

Blender for 3D if you've a brain of science. Maya, if you're just artistic. If you don't have both, just outsource.

Price of shooting depends on skill of operator and the equiptment. Get royalty free footage to save cost.

Production music... get it cheap on the net. Song... depends on name of singer or band. I usually get mine at around $900 per recorded song.

Cant get it cheap if dont know know who to approach.

I would really suggest you outsource it. Creating these videos yourself is a big NO, NO. You don't know what works, and you don't know how to operate the software. If you want to be professional and attract customers like the sites you mentioned in your post, you'll have to outsource it. And it won't be cheap, you're looking at around $700 per minute from a talented freelancer and $1,000 per minute from a company, but a company is more than highly recommended because of the support they'll offer and other cool features they set aside for you that a freelancer doesn't offer.

On second thought, I won't pay for videos similar to these sites. They're too elementary. Any software can do it. Besides, such hardly work right to boost conversion.

Unless you want a dramatized video with cinematic music, theme song, 3D text, themed clip etc... If you want to do the best, make a Hollywood-style video

I am in the market for a video as well...so this thread is perfect timing for it.

It's easy to fall into the trap where a sales video will run you $50-$150....with all other services being readily available for so cheap.

But, a sales video is crucial and as long as the content is good, the sales video is what seals the deal and is just as important. I think the toughest part is putting your trust and money into a production company you know will deliver results.

What is the typical turnaround time for a custom sales video from scratch?

Maybe you could go to the contact on the websites you have seen the videos on and ask them for the designer whom made them or just asked them how much then you know what you are up for. BTW I think the Keynote may have been used and screen flow to record the video.

I just want to second Blender (check out Sintel, which was also made with it). I've found that there are many, many artists working for very reasonable prices on their forums at BlenderArtists.org ,mainly because there's many of them, but much less work available than there is for people using Maya or Max. This is despite all three packages creating equally good art in the hands of similarly skilled artists (and I say this as a trained user of all 3).

Others offer some rather cheap software that will probably scare away more customers than attract them.

But when it comes to creating a video, if this is not one of your strengths, then it is highly recommended to outsource this task to companies that will make it right for you. With all respect to anyone reading this, i will just say the obvious here: a video is not an expense, but an investment.

I know that most animated softwares have professionals that make videos for really reasonable prices. We have that feature with PowToon (we have a studio where you can hire an animator), and I believe Animoto and Videoscribe do as well. All are amazing options and you can get some really outstanding videos!

I've been interested in animated videos and found a great one... actually found it in the WF ads (not the classifieds - the ads at the top of the WF. Click on 'view all').
It's awesome, costs $147 one time fee. There's a demo that shows how easy they are to make. Go to
      innercircleriches (dot) com/easysketchpro

submit your email and you're set. Think you'll love it!!
I've always wondered how they made them, it's really unique.

I once wrote an article about the choice of: Hiring Video Companies VS Buying the Software to make it ourselves. It was a long article but the bottom line was: We are all aware that Photoshop/Illustrator exists and most of us have it installed on our computers. But when we need a new logo, don't we almost always hire someone who is an expert to do it for us?
The same with whiteboard animation: Hiring an expert means you have real and experienced copywriters that will write an amazing story for your product/service (script) that will worth sharing. It means you have Real Artists that make Real unique drawings (and not ready made clip-arts that are used anywhere) completely tailored to your product/service. And it also means that you 'll have Real professionals recording your voiceover in a studio.

We always do have the choice of course and budget sometimes dictates ones decisions. But what everyone needs to know, is to consciously understand their options based on the real facts before choosing.

Interesting, if somewhat old thread. I agree with a lot of the comments here.

Many people look at making a video as an expense rather than an investment - and when the first question a potential client asks is "How much do you charge...?" you know they don't want to spend a lot.

Fair enough; a lot of marketers work on a tight budget - especially those who are just starting out and may be using IM as a way of supplementing the income from their J-O-B. Most professionals take that into account and can always do something simple and relatively inexpensive for those clients.

Sure, you can always have a go yourself with PowerPoint and Camtasia, or use a template-driven service, but bear in mind that a bad video (or one that looks the same as one you'll find on hundreds of other sites) can be as damaging to your bottom line as "boilerplate" sales copy or un-spun PLR. articles on your blog. It can be a lot more difficult to rectify, too.

When you order a video from a professional, you're not just paying for the time it takes to create it or the software they use to do the job. You're also paying for the years of experience it's taken to hone their skills and perfect their craft.

    End of rant!

    Steve,

    Good Point.

That's always the tradeoff, time & money. So, depending on those factors, you still need to be creative and resourceful enough to use the tool.

Creating a High-quality video by yourself is wrong for so many reasons. mainly it will just look bad and reflect badly on you business.
You need to look for a custom high quality video on a reasonable budget.

The problem with all the platforms that where mentioned here is that they are very restricting..
You have minimum choice over what kind of video you want to make, each video needs to be unique to complement the business he is empowering.
there are two main sites that get filmmakers and animators to pitch on your product, and you choose the best one for you.
the first is wooshi which I haven't used and the second is Veed.me. It's very versatile and prices go from 500$ for the entire video to complex after effect, multiply actors in thousands of dollars. in both sides opening a project is free, so it's really recommended to try. no harm done.

    Good luck

Personally I would give fiverr.com a try. You would be amazed at the excellent quality of some of the videos you can get for just five dollars. Bearing in mind that many organisations and companies use fiver as A marketing tool to get potential customers interested in other products. Therefore they want to do a good job for you.

If you are interested about making those kind of videos, especially whiteboard animated videos, you can try Easy Sketch Pro, Video Maker FX or Explaindio.

All 3 have been released this year and have become wildly popular
